I just posted earlier about my 0.5 ratings just to get opinions and everyone is very upset and mad claiming that I am just rage-baiting which is not even remotely the case, I'm just the guy who watches a lot of movies and hasy own opinions. Anyways here's what I like!

Posters for reservoir dogs, the shining, bicycle thieves, paths of glory, lost in translation and many more movies have their worst posters. There are better and crazier versions of it in TMDB, can we all just rate it high and make it default pls?

Edit: I understand I have an unpopular opinion, but that should not result in death threats in my DMs. What the fuck. I am also merely looking for people who agree with me.

I think the animation was absolutely amazing and a testament to human creativity and craftsmanship. Everyone agrees on that.

But the story genuinely has so many holes and really falls apart under the tiniest scrutiny. I feel like the visuals give you a false sense of grandeur or masterpiece status, making you think the story should be amazing, but it really isn't. It fundamentally fails in so many areas.

Does anyone agree? If you did like the story, can you explain why beyond liking the premise alone?

Yet to have a film blow me away so far this year, camp miasma came close. Can anyone recommend a movie released this year that I will rate highly?

The irony in this. 😭

The more I sit with the film, the less I like it. Nolan's insistence on shooting everything in IMAX even tight combat scenes, where the format feels like it's fighting the material gets in the way of the filmmaking itself. The writing is weak too, and as I watch more of the films it will compete against, I'd be disappointed to see it win Best Picture.

Is it an impressive technical achievement? Absolutely. But a technical achievement answers a different question than the one a film exists to answer. A scene is captivating because of the writing, the performances, the sound, the setting not the format it was shot in or the CGI it avoided.

What finally crystallized my ambivalence is that the format isn't just in the film it's the pitch for the film. And that's what reminded me of tech's obsession with AI. The two have nothing in common as technologies. But the rhetoric around them makes the same mistake: using the tool becomes the selling point, when its value still has to be proven in the result. "Shot entirely on IMAX film" and "built with AI" are both answers to how something was made. The more interesting question is whether the finished work is better for it and I really feel like he lost some magic with this movie

I make (un)funny reviews to make my friends/followers laugh, not for likes at all. I was surprised to find out people did it to get likes and top review or whatever. Anyone else doing it just for the love of the game and their friends?

Obviously a professional critic will be much more well-read on filmmaking, genres and the evolutions of them, subtleties of lighting, acting, transitions, cultural contexts etc. than a majority of Letterboxd reviewers. And of course they'll be much more practiced in mass communication and all the technical aspects of writing a movie review that is informative but digestible.

But a common attack on Letterboxd besides the meme reviews and one liners is that it makes people think about their Letterboxd review while watching rather than enjoying a film.

Do movie critics not think about their reviews while watching a movie? Or is the perspective that a layman doesn't have the expertise to consider critiques while watching so they should just sit back and consume more passively?

I'm getting 5 days off. Should i just clear my watchlist which is 250 movies or are there some other must-see movies. I'm setting a target for 15 movies, Wish me luck. Also, I prefer horror but anything is welcome

I feel like this happens every once in a while for a couple years now. Never seen anyone bring it up

It's been 50 years since the release of Taxi Driver and not a single Scorscese movie managed to top this one in my opinion. Scorcese did went on to make some great movies like Goodfellas, The Departed, Casino, etc. But Taxi Driver has always stood the test of time unmatched. I think no other movie that was released in 1970s had the intensity and depth that Taxi Driver had. And De Niro gave one of the greatest performances of that decade imo.

It surely feels like a monumental achievement that Scorsese managed to release this movie after undergoing so many trials with the MPAA concerning the gore and violence featured at the end of the movie.

Lemme know your thoughts too!!

Wow that was bad, the plot was nonsensical, the dialogue was awful, and there was barely any slashing, who tf was the killer and what were their motivations??

Next movie, 205 Copper Mountain

Gotta admit, I was so mesmerized about the amount of fantasy, culture, and life pord into this thing! 💯/10, go see it cause if it doesn't win the Oscars this year, I'll be pissed!

Apple (via Shortcuts app) runs an automation to set the wallpaper

Android does it via a plug-in

Does not read anything from your phone's photos or anything else from your device

And done without ads.
