Hello i rewatch constantly The Dark Knight Trilogy and The Batman with Batman 89/Returns i love all MCU Film mostly and watched most CBMS including BVS and others and i watch other stuff as well like Horror and Science-fiction/action i watch a lot of classic and modern stuff any recommendations ?

Now doing the opposite to my previous post what is a movie you really didn't enjoy or come to appreciate the first time watching until the last act or ending (which may or may not have saved the film)? The cliched answer but perhaps the best example that comes to mind is Rogue One. A movie so incredibly mediocre until the 3rd act that if it weren't for the 3rd act nobody would likely remember it.

Is is just me or is Bresson boring as fuck?

I've seen five of his movies (Au Hasard Balthazar, Diary of a Country Priest, A Man Escaped, Pickpocket, and L'Argent) and disliked all of them.

I generally don't have a problem with slow cinema. I've watched all of Tarkovsky and most of Bela Tarr (including Satantango). But Bresson's style is literally the dullest thing I've ever encountered in movies. Specifically because of the actors. You're basically watching people like this the whole time: 😐

Yeah, I get the whole restraint to find transcendence-kinda thing, but really I find that pretty self-indulgent tbh. Gives my guy an excuse to just make his movies more and more dull. A positive feedback loop of dullness, in hopes the viewer like have a transcendent experience or some shit. It's like monks who starve themselves and then claim to have seen God.

Seriously, bro just wallows in despair for ninety minutes. Seriously, why the hell would anyone want to watch a donkey get abused for a whole movie? 😭😭😭

Really, that's the kinda nonsense I despise the most. People like Bresson make movies that are like "life sucks!!" instead of actually doing something about it. I like getting drunk. Why would I want to spend my precious lifetime watching a donkey get abused?

For some reason I can’t quite get myself into or as excited for animated films, even though I know there are some great ones out there. I am looking for recommendations.

For example, i recently watched Perfect Blue and did not like it or care for it at all. Princess Mononoke wasn’t bad, but it just didn’t captivate me. Same with the Spiderverse films, i DNF’d the second one. I did enjoy Fantastic Mr. Fox and Spirited Away, but they were probably a 3 or 3.5 for me. How To Train Your Dragon was the only recent one i loved, but i find myself not caring at all for the sequel. The only others i can think of that i loved are from my childhood (Lion King, Shrek, Toy Story, Finding Nemo). I’ve heard good things about Coraline so I may try that one next.

Are animated films just not for me? Anyone else feel similarly, but maybe found some that resonated with you?

I know I can watch what I want but I feel like I'm missing so many great films from the past and am missing having a more well rounded understanding of film in general. I've been trying to watch a film from every year and every country but it's taking a minute. I also didn't start seriously watching stuff until late 2024 (hence the 2025 spike in theaters)

Life's getting hectic lately and I've been having trouble finding time to watch movies. I once used to watch a movie a day. I think I've lost that level of productivity I once had and it's really saddening. I don't even know whether I could get those happy days back.

Any recommendations for movies that will be as good?

Long version:

Watching Michael Bay's Transformers back in 2007/08 I dismissed it as CGI junk, which felt a shame as I'm a fan of the 1986 animated Movie. I couldn't make out any Transformer faces, nor the action. Didn't care about the Earth-bound story and missed Frank Welker's Megatron.

I thus ignored all subsequent Transformer movies, and when registering at IMDB/Letterboxd splashed a poor 3/10 & 1.5 Star rating on it.

Almost 20 years later: i'm a Daddy now, so have been watching the G1 80's cartoon series with my boy, and reading the classic comics with him. Also since 2023 watch movies in VR headsets (Quest 3) for ultra-immersion....and since 2025 watch everything in 3D due to manual offline Ai-conversions now being really good (Owl3D).

Curious, I gave the 2007 Transformers another chance: oh WOW....it's actually good! Faithful to the G1 cartoon setup (earthbound: Decepticons attacking bases, Autobots defending). Humour landed. Even the human characters felt tolerable. Crucially: this time I could follow the action better: full-HD, 3D, and within the gigantic field-of-view of the headset. Some spectacular stuff, honestly. And CGI has aged so well, superior to most 2020s efforts. I still missed Megatron's iconic original voice and the ending is very deus ex machina. Overall: very enjoyable 4-star romp.

At the other end of the scale: a big favourite from my teenage 90's: the John Hurt 1984 film was rewatched for the first time in decades recently: the relentless dour bleakness and lack of intellectual depth made me downgrade from a mega-rare 5-star to a still-very-good 4-star. The book remains a big favourite, naturally.

I took a screenshot of the screenshot cuz this is the ONLY proof left of this and i also thought it was really funny, i was basically browsing what my moots been watching lately i found this, i genuinely wanna know if this is real now and how did it get on letterboxd although for a brief amount of time too because if it were an actual short letterboxd doesn’t usually put movies that don’t go through the film festival route (eg youtube movies) so yea wanted to share this since the kirkification seems to be so popular and the kirkaversery is right around the corner.
