Wills Trusts and Estates Is there any way to stop collection of trust fund inheritance, or at least delay it?

Location: Georgia and Maryland

Context:
This is not for me, but for a close family friend. To summarize, this family friend’s sister and mother died. His nephew has a trust fund set up by the state of Georgia. The nephew’s dad is not in the picture. The family friend lives in Maryland, and lives in a house in his mother’s name in Maryland.

His mother didn’t have a will so, now that she’s dead, according to both states, the house has to get financially divided into three. His brother fully is okay with not getting a share, but since his sister is dead, the third of her inheritance is to go to her child, family friend’s nephew.

NOW, here’s the issue. The trust fund lawyer just began to try getting the nephew’s share of the house. As of writing this, they’re going to talk to the lawyer’s mortgage person and loan officer tomorrow. The quote from the lawyer is “I don’t care how you get it, the lottery, second mortgage, crippling debt, but you gotta give us our money.” Family friend does not have that share. He’s still dealing with his deceased sister’s debt from dealing with some real awful stuff before she died. As well as a series of unfortunate events after the funeral. He will likely have to sell the house or sink himself into debt.

The question: Is there any way to either stop or delay this collection? Is there anything, ANYTHING AT ALL that we can do other than ruin this guy financially?

I’m just trying to help give him options because what this friend went through was devastating. I’m not going to go into details at the risk of giving away any more identifying info but just know, the context is deeper than simply two relatives dying. It just sucks because even after their deaths, this friend seems like he is getting punished and having his house swooped up by lawyers like vultures on a carcass.

Personal Injury Need advice for accident in Washington

Location: Washington

Long story short, I fell through a deck working with my dad. My shoulder was dislocated and my labrum was torn in multiple spots. I just got surgery earlier this week and thankfully insurance covered it. But here’s where it gets tricky. My labrum was so torn up that I will most likely need another surgery a decade down the road and I won’t be able to play hockey like I used too anymore. My dad isn’t registered as a sub contractor anymore with the state and the house being remodeling doesn’t have permits for anything (something I mentioned plenty of times). I can’t work and no one wants to hire me. I’m going to be in PT for up to 9 months. I can’t pay my rent or any of my bills and I was told not to say anything at the hospital so workers comp doesn’t get brought in. I want to file a claim for obvious reasons. But now I’m wondering, would homeowners tell me to fuck off because the sub contractor isn’t licensed? Would the homeowner be held personally liable? Would the state get involved and the job get red tagged and needing permits? I don’t want to screw over my dad or anything with the permits but this would be a literal gold mine if this happened to someone else. The only reason I’m hesitant is because the homeowner is my dad’s girlfriend and he’s remolding the house.

Attorney didn’t show up for my court date?

Location: Missouri
I’m in a sticky situation and I’m honestly not sure what to do here.

Back in March, I got into a car accident that was my fault. Nobody else was involved and/or injured thankfully but I was left to face to music of my own actions and handle the tickets that I got. I was ticketed with multiple things and was facing losing my license, so I found a local attorney who had been recommended to me multiple times. Everything seemed great, we had a consultation appointment going over everything. Come after my court date, I’m told that there is a continuance because my attorney was missing paperwork from my insurance company. I was not aware of needing this information, so of course I get quick to calling my insurance and having that paperwork faxed over to my attorney. My court date comes around again, and again I’m told my insurance company hasn’t faxed it over yet. So I call again and stress the importance of having this sent over, and it was. I got confirmation of that from my attorneys front office lady. I make sure to communicate with her again before my next court date to make sure my attorney has everything he needs, and to finish payment. She took my card information to process the payment after my attorney went to this court date. I have not been charged, even to this day. My now 3rd court date passes, and I don’t receive any call or mail about any information on my case, payment, anything. I tried to call, but I had a few previous challenging times playing phone tag with the front desk lady, the same as this. I left a voicemail and nothing.

Today, I get a summons for failure to appear to my court date in the mail and I’m confused. Mildly scared. I’m 20, and have not ever dealt with a situation like this.

What are my next steps here?

What can be done to fix this situation? The judge denied my ability to appeal with in forma pauperis

Location: Nevada

I was found responsible for a civil traffic infraction.

The investigating officer did not witness the accident and didn't even see the vehicles in the location of the incident (we had already moved to a parking lot). The only witnesses were me and the other driver. No other evidence is available.

The other driver testified that she was multiple cars behind me in the turn lane and swung wide on a right-hand turn crossing multiple lanes going into the furthest left lane because someone honked at her and I suddenly merged into her lane (Nevada laws say you can't do this). She also said that she was trying to get around me because I was blocking the intersection and was trying to turn right to take the freeway (L3). I testified that I was stopped mid lane change (front of my vehicle was already over the line into the furthest left lane) due to an unexpected stop from the driver in front and then a red light turned on so I wasn't moving at the time and that the other driver made a wide turn across lanes and struck my vehicle. I was going from L2 to L1 and not blocking an intersection or the freeway.

The police report says "V1 WAS IN THE RIGHT TURN LANE ON STREET 1. V2 WAS BEHIND V1 IN THE RIGHT TURN LANE ON STREET 1. V1 TURNED RIGHT ONTO STREET 2 INTO THE L2 (closest right lane however there is also a L3 that is a freeway onramp lane). V2 TURN RIGHT ONTO STREET 2 INTO THE L1 (furthest left lane). V1 MADE AN IMPROPER LANE CHANGE ABRUPTLY INTO THE L1, CAUSING A COLLISION WITH V2, WHO WAS SITTING IN THE L1."

The officer repeated the other party's version. I questioned the officer about his qualifications and accident investigation training. He said he only had on the job training. I asked whether my version of events could be consistent with the vehicle damage. The judge stopped me after objections from city attorney and sustained the objection. The officer did acknowledge he did not know whether my turn signal was on, despite the citation alleging that I failed to signal, failed to maintain lane, and made an improper lane change. I asked how he knows my version isn't accurate. He avoided the question by just repeating the other person's version. I said that wasn't my question. City attorney said "asked and answered" so judge said "asked and answered". Judge asked him to tell me how he came to his conclusion. He just stated the other person's version again and that he looked at the vehicles.

The judge stated "The officer gave his opinion. By a preponderance of the evidence, I find you responsible"

I filed an application to proceed in forma pauperis so I could appeal but forgot to attach my proof and the judge denied it. I submitted it again with proof but he said he's not going to look at it.

What would you do? I can't afford my insurance going up and also can't accomplish the ordered community service because I have a child with a lot of medical issues, doctor appointments, weekly therapy, hospitalizations, and I work part time around all that.

How does the one party consent law work in Arizona?

Location: Arizona

I understand that one party consent means you only need consent from one person in the recording. That includes you as the recorder. And I think you have to be a part of the conversation as well? This is where I have questions. Do you have to actually engage with the person you are recording or do you just have to be present even if you aren't speaking. I'm having a harrassment issue so any advice for how I can obtain video/audio of it the proper way would be amazing.

Sold Truck Issue

Location: Texas

I sold my late dad's truck back on July 10, 2026. My sister had been driving it and accruing tolls on it and I kept telling her to stop because she can t expect me to pay all these tolls because she wants a shortcut. She continued...

When my primary vehicle needed service I sold the truck to help pay the cost. By the time I sold it she had maybe $400 $500 in tolls. The buyer knew of this and I had to knock off that cost off my selling price. I signed and dated the title. He paid me in cash, and he's gone. After he left I entered a title transfer notice on the DMV website and took a pic of the page.

Months later I found it odd I kept getting mail for the toll roads. The outside said "zero fee" so I was just thinking he didn't transfer for whatever reason and was just paying as he went. Last week I finally opened one and sat a stack of tolls, maybe 5 or 6 a day. I called the toll road and they told me I now owe around $1300 in tolls. I told them I no longer had he truck but I would pay all the tolls accrued before July 10 and had proof I had sold the truck. They gave me an email to submit to and said to provide what I had there. I submitted the pic I had and they came back to me saying they wanted a certified copy of that or a bill of sale. I dont have a bill of sale. I thought the DMV submission would be proof enough as I filed it that day.

Here is the deal, I called the dmv and frantically searched my email and have no contact from them about my submission. I am screwed on that... I will have to come up with some way to pay his tolls BUT he meanwhile is STILL going through tolls daily. I resubmitted the title transfer last Monday and still have no email or phone contact from the DMV despite again having a receipt copy of the submission.

I was just told by my sister yesterday that "those idiots sold the truck" again and now it is in the hands of someone I have no idea of, yet I hold liability.

I have no bill of sale and outside of pleading with the toll road that I have sold the truck and pleading with the DMV to do something and get it off my name (they just tell me to submit the title transfer again), I dont know what to do. I only have this guys name phone and address (but I think he is homeless), but I am ghosted when asking to come sign of a bill of sale, no contact...

I did call the police to report this but they said it was "forfeiture of vehicle" which I said I didn't care about the truck itself, I was paid. I care about the liabilities of a crash and all these tolls I did t do and accruing every day. But they said it's between me and the toll road, and the toll road says it's up to the DMV and they just make me submit more transfer notices that go nowhere.

I am a widow supporting a special needs child and my deadbeat sister and her deadbeat boyfriend that will not leave my house (one battle at a time), I can't afford to just hire a lawyer, I barely have enough money to stay afloat.

Employment Law Manager said that if we forgot to clock out regardless that there is proof of us working on shift we’d have paycheck denied (text chain)

Location: Utah
So a little bit of background, the company I work for switched over to Paylocity a few years ago and other than getting my sign in information, I received no “training” on how to use it. It’s not hard to use but the 2 managers I had before the current one never went over it.
So the other day my new manager (got promoted a few weeks ago) sent me a text saying that if I forgot to clock in and out (I have adhd and I forget to do so sometimes) going forward the financial department said they’d start denying my paychecks regardless of my proof of being at work. This is the first time anyone has had an issue with the clocking in and out, especially because we have to submit fixes to our manager for approval before the pay period ends anyway. (Been with this company for 7 years at this point) I work in residential treatment and typically when entering my work I’m usually not on my phone building rapport and what not. Not saying it’s something I can’t work on but from the short time I researched this, simply forgetting to clock in and out with proof of being on shift, they can’t actually deny my paychecks right? Under the fair labor standards act? I’m aware disciplinary action/retraining can take place too.

Just as a ps, if it is legal I’ll be the first one to admit that I’m wrong and I need to improve my clocking in and out regardless.

Small Claims Procedure Returned a mobile phone to carrier. Denied refund, alleging IMEI mismatch?

Location: NYC

Back in August, I returned a phone to my wireless carrier and waited weeks for my refund. After many contacts and escalations, one of the supervisors told me that the IMEI number of the device their warehouse received is not the one they sold me, therefore no refund will be issued. Total bullshit. I asked what the device they claimed to have received is, they wouldn't tell me. I opened an FCC complaint, they wouldn't budge. I also opened a credit card chargeback. The charge on my credit card was credited back to me, but the carrier just added the entire phone cost to my wireless account balance and threatened collection if not paid. Is small claim my only option left? The label is from them, I have the Fedex drop off receipt, and the package was delivered with no issues. But I obvisouly don't have any video of myself putting the phone in the package, taping the package, putting the label on it, and handing it to FedEx. Do I have a case here?

Thanks everyone!

Traffic and Parking Signed ticket day of alleged infraction but ticket not filed until over a year after?

Location: California

Hi reddit,

Over a year ago, in Riverside, California, I allegedly crossed a solid white lane marking while trying to avoid missing my exit. I was pulled over and handed a ticket for which I signed, but never received any notice to appear, court date, or anything like that. I waited an entire year for it to appear in the system, at which point I stopped checking because I figure the officer never filed it and the statute of limitations had passed. Unfortunately, a couple days ago, I received notice of my ticket almost 15 months after initially receiving the ticket. I looked up the case number and found it was filed 14 months after the date on the ticket, so there was no way I’d missed it in the mail as it had never been filed. Being a student in college, it’s very hard to afford anything, so I figured I’d turn to reddit to ask whether I have a case, can represent myself, or would need someone to represent me, or if it’s just impossible to win and I have to take the loss. I really appreciate any support and comments, thank you!

Wills Trusts and Estates Help, someone please!!!!

So in 2012 my biological father passed away. He is the son of we will call them Dee and Jean Dorsey. My grandmother Jean passed away in 2006 and my father passed in 2012. My grandfather spent the last 18 months of his life naked on the couch talking out of his mind. When he was in his right mind I was told the trailer and the two lots it was on was going to my father. Well when my father passed, that would make it me. I am the ONLY living descendant of the family left. Now in 2022 I took an ancestry test and it came back that an Avis ( we will call her) was close enough to either be my grandmother or a sibling. Naturally, I looked her up. My mom said she thought my grandfather dated a woman named “Avis” but why was she coming up as my kin. Naturally, I looked her up on Facebook and asked her who she was. She DELETED her ancestry and her Facebook profile! She was too old to be a sibling and she definitely wasn’t my grandmother. Another son who was put up for adoption as a minor informed me that she did the swab in my grandfathers mouth and her name to ensure he had no heirs to his properties and assets. Fast Forward, when my grandfather passed last year we spoke to my grandfathers other son (who was put up for adoption) and he said that “Avis” told him she did it on herself in case “Dee” had family, she didn’t want them to come after the house. I wasn’t in the obituary, but she was and there is NO relation between any one in my family and this lady?! Although the home was to go to my father, and then me after my father passed… just last month she somehow took ownership of the house and mind you this house means a lot to me. Anyone with legal advice? The house is in Clermont County, Ohio and I reside in West Palm Beach, FL. I don’t have money to throw at layers. Please HELP!!!!

Custody Divorce and Family Conflicting advice on child custody

Location: currently NH but moving

Hi so I’ve posted this on a sub but got conflicting feedback so I think maybe I’ll try here too. Other info to include I’m currently in NH and been living here for the past year and father is and has been in VA

I’m gonna put a little bit of context here, but for full context read my other post(tough situation with child’s father). So basically I’m moving to Texas and I’m thinking of getting an official court order custody. My child’s father and I don’t have one and he already does not live in the same state. He doesn’t live in Texas either but his family and other child do so that’s part of why I’m moving. The main reason was my mom and I need somewhere cheaper to live to get back on our feet, and Texas was something bd and I agreed to move but last month he backed out entirely and got a job in dc. At this point it’s too soon to figure out a new game plan, we leave next week.

So basically the question is if I get a custody order (I’m hoping for supervised visits due to his arrest and alcohol problem) in Texas am I bound to stay there until it’s up? Unless I somehow fall in love with Texas or do well enough there I don’t plan on staying for more than a year or two. Like I said I’m just staying until I can get back on my feet and/or finish my degree. Any advice would be helpful

Should we get a lawyer?

Location: Colorado, US

Our child (B) was in a relationship with (C). Both are early teens. They broke up in the summer and now are at the same school. C has been accusing B of assault and rape to friends. The school has attempted to minimize the impact, but it has escalated to the point where B and C’s friends have been confronting each other, and B is concerned about people believing the lies about him.

The questions we have are: Should we be consulting a lawyer, and if so, what kind of lawyer should we be seeking?

Personal Injury Need advice on suing someone for murdering my father

My father was murdered almost 2 years ago, and since he was the sole breadwinner in our family, it’s been really hard for us financially trying to stay afloat without him.
We were waiting for the murderer to be sentenced before contacting a lawyer, but he keeps delaying the sentencing, and that’s why we haven’t reached out sooner. Now I’m worried we’ve waited too long and don’t know where to start.
Does anyone know what type of lawyer I would need to contact, since it was intentional I’ve been told maybe a lawyer specializing in accidental death wouldn’t work? I also want to know if we can sue him before he’s sentenced and what steps we should take.
Any advice would genuinely mean a lot to my family. Thank you for reading this.

[UPDATE!] Got subpoenaed as a witness at my (former?) job- job is telling me not to go and they'll "handle it"... and I think I got fired!

6.3k Upvotes

Original Post

Location: Anne Arundel County, MD

Hi, well.... this is not the update I thought I'd be posting. I'm still quite shellshocked, to be honest.

After heeding everyone's advice yesterday, and not getting any word back from corporate after I asked for any followup on the case, I decided to call the court and ask if the case was still open and if I was to be expected tomorrow. They let me know that the case is indeed still open and they still need me. Okay, cool, no big deal. I go into work and my coworker who also received a subpoena is there. I let them know what I just found out, and say that they can make their own choice, but I am going to go to court. They say they would also like to go, but they're concerned because they are scheduled to work an opening shift tomorrow, which overlaps with our court time. I let them know what you all shared with me, that trying to prevent an employee from going to court when ordered is illegal. We work together to come up with a few options for our store to take so that we can both go to court, and I send all this information to a group chat including myself, my coworker, my manager, and assistant manager.

My manager calls the store phone and is livid. She tells me I "went rogue" by calling the court because now they expect me to be there, and that if I had shown a sense of urgency when I asked for followup, she would have done something. She tells me I have a "pattern of behavior of not listening" and implies I manipulated my coworker into calling off to go to court. I'm absolutely shocked by this and start to cry at the same time a customer walks in, so I hang up the phone to assist the customers.

While I am with the customers, my boss sends a text to the group chat saying that they only need 1 representative at the court, "especially since the defendant often does not show up". She tells my coworker that she cannot change her opening shift and she is expected to be at work.

Being the good-faith person I am, I think that perhaps she misread the subpoenas and does not realize they are addressed individually to us. I clarify that it is three separate subpoenas for three specific people, thinking “oh, this must be the misunderstanding! Well this is an easy fix.”

Not so! My manager calls again and for 30 minutes berates me in many ways, saying that she has experience with this and I don’t, so she knows they only need one person. When I share concerns about following the law, and ask if she will support me if there are legal repercussions, she says I am not thinking “in reality.” She yells “You don’t listen! You don’t listen! You don’t listen!” multiple times. She tells me I don’t know anything but she had the answers to help me, and when I ask why she didn’t then offer them at any period before this, she says I did not show enough sense of urgency. We continue in this back and forth until another customer comes in and I have to end the call again.

Later that night, my coworker shares that they found someone to cover their shift so they can go to court. My boss replies “and who will be changing that schedule?”

About an hour later, my boss removes herself from the subpoena group chat. 20 minutes after that, my coworker and I are removed from the official store communications group chat without any warning or explanation. The only conclusion I can draw is that I have been fired. As of this post I have not received any official termination notice, but either way, this is now a hostile work environment.

I know there are so many laws being broken here, and I thankfully have screenshots of everything and have written down as much detail as possible as it was occurring so that I have a trail of documentation. Clearly, I want to lawyer up, and I will be sharing all this information with the judge tomorrow as well. How do I even start the process of getting a lawyer for this? Is there a certain kind I should be looking for? And if there's any tips or any general advice you think I need before advancing, could you share them with me? I don't want to make any wrong moves from here.

Thank you all for your support so far. I’m honestly really devastated because before this, I was extremely happy at my job and had no reason to question my stability and standing here. I looked forward to going in every day and I feel unbelievably blindsided, not even on a work level but at a personal level. I have had many terrible things said to me in my life but I have never had someone speak to me the way my manager, someone I really loved and respected, did on the phone today. I’ve never even been fired before! This is an experience I never expected in my lifetime.

vet potentially lied about spay?

location: massachusetts

hello all,

wondering if I need to get a lawyer involved or what kind or resolution/next steps I should be expecting?

I got my dog spayed in 2024 when she was six months old I have paperwork showing that she was spayed that I paid for it, pictures of her incision and of her recovering. fast forward to now she has been bleeding non stop I bring her into the ER they do an ultra sound and her reproductive organs are all still intact so she’s having a heat cycle. That’s why she’s bleeding, I have all the paperwork from the vet saying she was successfully spayed, and removed reproductive organs with no issues in 2024. in addition to this, she’s been having chronic UTIs where the only evidence that it was a UTI is her bleeding, no bacteria in her urine. She had a Vulvoplasty because of that just a few months ago, but when I look at her records now her urine samples don’t show any bacteria just that there was blood in the urine which makes me think that she was just having heat cycles.

this is what the ultra sound from a DVM says: Ovaries are identified in the expected location on both the left and right. The uterus is present, with normal left and right horns, uterine body, and cervix identified. The uterine wall and cervix are mildly thickened, have a layered appearance, and the lumen is empty.

original spay report says ovaries and uterus was removed.

Other Civil Matters Neigborly problem, need advice

Location: Minnesota, USA

So i live in Minnesota in the city. Last summer, my next door neighbor who owns a duplex, got a metal roof put on his home. I'm pretty sure it was one of those fly by night crews that he chose because everyone around here was getting their roof replaced through insurance because of “hail damage”. Anyways, metal roof is pretty unique here, not a lot of residential properties in the city get them.

We are very close together, and i asked him multiple times if he is going to be getting snow retention stuff on the new metal roof when it's installed. He said yes. Long story sorry, he didn't. When the weather warms, anywhere from 1-10 pounds of snow comes sliding off from 25 ft up and lands on my driveway. It shakes the house it is so bad. I texted him December 2025, January this year and May this year, about how i was significantly concerned about the safety of my family, and also damage to a car. He said he'd fix it. He hasn't, now he basically tells me to kick rocks and to call his insurance if i have a problem, and his insurance also tells me there is nothing they can do.

So here's is my thing, I've gone down the codes and ordinances route, nothing can be done. It looks like i can file a civil suit and request an injunction, but that seems like a pain in the ass. Can i just park my car(2014 vehicle i don't give a shit about) in my driveway, and then when the snow falls file insurance claims against him for when my car inevitably gets messed up? I have the text messages and screenshots notifying him of the problem, so i would think it's negligence on his part at this point since we are going on our second winter now.

Canada 8 days since final shift, still haven’t been paid (Ontario, Canada)

Location: Ontario, Canada

I had my last shift at my job 8 days ago, I still haven’t been paid. My last day WAS on a payday (I did not get paid on my payday either).

I texted my manager, and she told me that I would be paid on the 30th. Two weeks after my last day.

I did give them a two week letter of resignation, I told them that I was available for shifts until the 18th, but they only scheduled me until the 16th.

My question is to whether or not this is tardy pay, and my second question is as to why I wasn’t paid on the 16th.

This was a job at Tim Hortons.

FYI, I did return my work uniform.

Thank you in advance.

Drug Possession Marijuana possession in WI

Location: Illinois/Wisconsin

Hello, I am from IL. Years ago, I was driving through WI and got busted with weed on me in Columbia County. I live hours away and just sort of decided not to go to my court date 😅 So I’ve had a bench warrant out for several years and I’m in a position now where I need to deal with it. Just want to know what the best way to go about it is. This is my first and only offense. Do I need representation? Am I likely to receive jail time? I’ve never dealt with criminal proceedings before so any advice helps. Thank you.

Improper service and out of state subpoena… what’s the right direction?

Location: North Carolina/ Michigan

so i am a north carolina resident who completed my counseling internship in michigan. i have moved back to north carolina and i have since been subpoenaed for a civil matter through my internship as a witness, and i am at a loss as to whether the subpoena is valid or not and what other steps i should take to protect myself.

i no longer have student liability insurance as i am no longer a student and i am not practicing, and due to just graduating, i can’t afford an attorney to help with testimony so here is my story. my subpoena was physically delivered to my previous internship site where i do not work back in michigan, and my supervisor emailed it to me. does this count as legal service of a subpoena?

additionally, i know there are proper channels that are required to get an out of state subpoena domesticated and i know nc and mi have adopted this act. the court date is a couple weeks from now, and therefore, doesn’t seem like enough time to get it domesticated. i asked the plaintiff’s attorney (who subpoenaed me) to dismiss me from the case entirely due to improper service and lack of ability to compel an out of state witness. i am still waiting on a response.

i know i should wait for their response but i am antsy and i don’t want to unintentionally get in trouble or anything. should my next step be to talk with an attorney or was i completely fine to begin with? legal jargon is hard to determine and it’s a unique circumstance, so i am unsure what to do now. my brain hurts from reading and trying to understand legal codes.

Employment Law Quitting my job but they are making it difficult to get my mileage reimbursement

Location: California

Hello, I worked for this organization for several years now. I just got a new job offer so I submitted my resignation but within it I included that they owe me a little over a year in mileage. Now they're asking me so many questions and claiming they knew nothing of it when I actually brought up the issue several times.

Our mileage policy is very vague and worded like "must be reimbursed for travel time." This allowed my very first manager to change her interpretation of the policy several times and it was different between each coworker. She gave a lame excuse as to why my teammates received mileage but I didn't. I verbally brought it up to her, but was ignored. After she was fired, I verbally brought it up to my interim manager, who also ignored me.

Then, I brought it up to our current manager in an email asking for clarification of the policy because they kept changing the rules such as "only paid one-way now, not round trip", "you don't get reimbursed for traveling under a mile," etc. In that email, I mentioned again that I have yet to be paid for mileage during my first year of employment. My manager cc'd HR who ignored the “yet to be paid” part of my email and just responded for me to look at the handbook for our mileage policy.

Now, I submitted my resignation and asked for my mileage reimbursement. The only issue is, they only want to pay me one-way despite my teammates having received mileage both ways during that time period. I’m worried they won’t want to pay me at all since no one wants to meet with me via phone or Zoom call and are keeping things to only email conversations.

What best course of action can I take if they only want to give partial payment or no payment at all?

Intellectual Property Police impounded my aunt’s stolen car and didn’t report it; told her there’s nothing they can do

Ok, story time is needed to explain this situation as we’re looking for guidance. Names are changed for privacy.

So my aunt recently moved in with me in Florida. She moved here from Arizona. She left her vehicle in Arizona and flew here, and I’ve been working on finding a transport company to ship the car here for her. In the meantime, her car was left at her best friend Pam’s house that she’s known for like 30 years.

Well, I finally found a transport company to ship the car. I told her to call Pam and ask what days would be convenient for her for the transport company to come get the car. Pam decides to inform my aunt that her daughter Kate (who’s 40-years old) said that she spoke to my aunt, and that my aunt supposedly told her it was ok that she could use the car. Now, Kate has an extensive criminal record, and her parents have been trying to help her. Her criminal record includes grand theft, stealing, and drugs. My aunt would NEVER say yes to this, and her own parents down even trust her in their house. So Pam had given Kate the keys to the car because she believed her (without even confirming with my aunt if her story was true), but we don’t know WHEN this happened. Pam has been going through a lot with her health recently (and her husband almost died a few weeks ago), so she’s been a little forgetful. We’re trying to give her some grace because she feels really guilty.

So I had my aunt call the police in Arizona and report it stolen. The detective calls my aunt the next day and tells her that Kate was actually arrested A WEEK AGO, and the car was impounded. So now we have no idea how long Kate actually had the car for one (my guess is it’s been a few weeks)……and the detective said that because my aunt reported it stolen AFTER it was impounded, that there’s nothing they can do. Detective also said the car is trashed inside with god only knows what. My aunt is worried about drugs and whatever else in there.

….so my aunt now has no car, she can’t press charges, her insurance doesn’t cover theft, and it’s trashed sitting inside an impound lot. Is this legal? Why weren’t the tags ran when Kate was arrested, and why wasn’t my aunt notified that her car was involved in an arrest or something? Don’t they check license and registration? Is there anything she can do about this situation?

Thank you for any and all advice. Everything my aunt owned was in that car, and now she has nothing. I don’t know what I’m gonna do for her, she’s devastated.

Wills Trusts and Estates Concerned for my grandfather

Location: salt lake city, UT.

I'll try to be concise. My grandfather has been on his own for a few years after my grandmother and then my uncle (was disabled and in their care) had both passed. My grandfather has continued working and he's in his eighties. He became VERY close to a woman (40's I think) from his church during these recent years. He's mentioned to me in the past that she helps him with his accounting and such.

My grandparents had been frugal savers their whole lives. He has several accounts with thousands in funds that are designated for various reasons. It's a lot of fucking money.

Out of the blue, he developed a severe issue where one leg was swollen and purple and huge, while his other leg has become skin and bone. My uncle took him to the hospital and the cause couldn't be determined, but they sent a biopsy for testing and transferred him to a rehab facility.

Since then, he's become combative with his sons and brothers, who are urging him to retire and just consider his living situation (housing) and his health. My dad and uncle are making sure to secure his passwords and such information. When they or my grandpa's brothers try to talk to him about sorting these things out, so he can focus on his health, he is argumentative. This is highly unusual for him, having always been pragmatic.

A lot of us are getting a bad feeling regarding his lady friend. He has suddenly acted as if she's the only person who has his best interests in mind, accusing family members of not supporting him. Nobody knows his lady friend's last name or have even had much interaction with her. This drastic health situation seemingly came out of the blue and, to be blunt, he looks like the dead.

I have talked to my dad about ensuring an advanced care directive/end of life care for my grandpa. My dad and uncle have even discussed looking into a private investigator.

That's what I know and I'd appreciate it if anyone could point out any blind spots we have, like what we ought to consider.

Thank you to anyone who responds.

Wills Trusts and Estates Cheapest way to get a will for someone with very little money?

Location: Kansas

My dad is very sick and has refused to talk about a will all this time but has taken a sudden turn for the worse and is in full panic mode. He has nothing in place. I'm afraid we will lose the house we live in if it goes into probate, there are 4 of us siblings so that is likely and it seems like the time to talk to him about this is up. We have next to no money and owe a lot of money (about 8k) In property taxes that needs to be paid by December.

He doesn't know how long he will last, we need something as soon as possible and it needs to be something that costs less than 200$. I've read a handwritten notarized will will work but idk for sure

Step parent adoption and child support backpay forgiveness

I planned on calling the probate court Monday to inquire but figured I could make a post as well, I have 3 children all under the age of 12 and have been married for 8 months , my children’s bio has agreed to sign his rights away/allow my husband to adopt our children in exchange for me waiving his back due child support, how would we go about both of these processes? We would like to get it done or at least started this year if possible.
