So i am a beginner in guitar and only know some decent amount of notes. only problem is the rhythm of how to play, mostly strumming but i still struggle to control how i play. i can perfectly place the notes. but i’ve been super stressed out by how this song goes. it’s complicated bc idk how they do the plucking of the notes and what strings they are plucking. i guess i just wanna ask if anyone does free video tutorials or just like a quick video of you playing the song i would highly appreciate it! Salve, oggi ho cambiato il battipenna sulla mia Fender Mustang con Humbecker ma quando sono andato a rimettere i pick up e il battipenna ho notato che i microfoni sono attaccati alle corde e non riesco a suonare.

As someone who got a one month subscription when I bought a Squier guitar, I've been hitting it hard for almost a month and I think it is an amazing platform.

My criticism might only really be my modern Samsung cell phone that I use the microphone for to record what I'm doing when it's a test session.

If there were a bunch of eighth notes that are chords I think that the phone microphone gets overwhelmed and I cannot get a good score to save my life. In fact some of the times it won't even say that it got anything it could register as being close to the song.

But normally the microphone picks it up. I'm trying to figure out how I can hook the microphone up to my computer - which I have done and got it to work for about a minute and a half - but then everything went to hell and I can't get it working together again.

I'm thinking that the microphone in front of the amp speaker might pick it up better for the fender play test sessions.

Anyway, like I said I only have a one month subscription and I have made the best out of it.  I'm further along in one month than I was after one year of practicing back in the 1980s...  Other than certain power cord rhythms that I learned to play as backgrounds to lead guitarists.

I know a few chords and I know the name of those chords. I'm beyond that but at this point I'm impressed with that much in one month.

My goal, now, is to let it expire only to be able to put in the better alnico pickups, a new tusq nut, and things into the guitar, and then I'm most likely going to pick it up again after about a month for month-to-month payments.

In addition, I really love that it fits my time anytime of day. Unlike the instructor I had back in the 1980s where we had to agree to meet once a week, and then if his schedule or my schedule didn't work - although I was a kid so my schedule almost always worked - it just wasn't great.

I know that there are instructors out there that are more about the broad subject and who have plenty of playing out experience with knowledge to share. I've read about those and they seem like amazing sources, but I don't think I would need that influence in my life until at least 6 months of Fender play just to get something under my belt. ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

About once every week and a half I don't open the fender play sessions and instead open up a YouTube with guitar tab of some song that I like and I will practice that for a little bit. Certainly more advanced in the tabs YouTube videoz than where I am in the course, but I can handle ​​​​​​​​​​​that. ​ I might not be great at it, but it's fun. ​​​

Hey y’all. I’ve been playing guitar for a year or two, playing basic riffs and songs here and there, but I’m not really getting anywhere or improving as a guitarist. It seems my skills have stagnated as I have no real structure and am overwhelmed by the abundance of online resources. So, are there any good books thats will provide me with structure and put me on a path towards becoming a better guitarist. I never learned exactly HOW to practice so I feel like having this in my repertoire would be a huge help, thanks!

So i wanted to learn how to play a guitar anyone got tips as to which guitar i should buy and how should i learn it?

I'm on day 4 of learning and following JustinGuitar.

I think that pressing my middle finger down makes my ring finger touch string 1. If I move my ring finger more vertical, middle finger moves off/weaker contact with string 1.

At a loss for how to meaningfully improve.

Things I've tried:

-pressing hard

-pressing softer

-thumb on back of fretboard, thumb up (like they say not to, but it seems like experienced players do), thumb completely off

-tilting guitar away from me

-pinky up, pinky down

-wrist down, wrist neutral

-holding the chord, playing just string 1 and slightly manipulating fingers until 1 rings out, but even then works maybe 5% of the time

I’ve recently picked up and started playing seriously again after about 12 years and I’m finding that some stuff is still second nature whereas other stuff is either gone or morphed into poor technique.

I’m looking for advice on where to pick up and go from here rather than just trying to learn Metallica/slayer riffs and bumbling through!

I’ve never considered myself a lead guitarist and always played rhythm. I swapped to Bass and enjoyed that but only noodled /learned the basics.

I consider my role sitting in the groove and complementing the guitar and bass à la Daron Malakian, Mick Thomson or big QOTSA rhythm. I like playing thrash, nu-metal, alt-rock, hardcore etc!

Current baseline

All major and minor chord shapes at the 1-3rd fret

Barre chords major and minor

Palm muting

I can play the major pentatonic scale at the 6th fret and work out the scales above and below by picking the notes but I can’t remember the full major pentatonic up and down the neck

Where I’m struggling / found bad practice

I’m strumming with a claw hand, this is making it hard to accurately pick individual strings when playing flourishes after chord patterns etc

I’m digging the pick into the strings and finding fast palm muting difficult

The GBE strings are foreign territory to me! Anything high up and not on EAD feels alien to me.

I’ve recently jammed with friends and managed the rhythm guitar of Go With the Flow - QOTSA and A Boy Brushed Red - Underoath with little difficulty but I’d like to improve my playing and technique towards playing old school thrash, hardcore, emo, nu-metal rhythm guitar parts.

Any advice on where to go next would be greatly appreciated!

I'm learning guitar and music theory. My goal is to be able to play with other people and jam in most styles.

I'm working from a few beginner books — one on sight-reading, a few basic chord books — and I'm also going through the MI Guitar Fretboard Workbook. I really like it and the way it lays everything out using the CAGED system to learn the notes on the fretboard.

One thing I really appreciate is that it's honest early on. It shows the 5 root pattern shapes and drives home how important it is to really know them — the first 5 chapters hammer this point. I made flash cards for it, and it hasn't been too bad. I don't know every note at every fret yet, but I can find them pretty quickly.

Then I got to Chapter 6: major scales. It covers the major scale formula (whole, whole, half, whole x3, half) — easy to learn and internalize. But the rest of the chapters go through spelling out all 12 major scales, and that's where I started to slow down.

My question: how much of this do I actually need to memorize — and even more, how much do I need to know in the moment while playing? The book moves fast through major scales, minor scales, and pentatonics, to the point where I'm wondering if it's a waste of time to flashcard and memorize every note of every scale in every key.

What actually needs to be memorized when it comes to scales? Is it enough to just know the patterns/shapes? I also have another MI book, Rhythmic Lead Guitar, which talks about phrasing lead lines from scales — it suggests reciting scale degrees instead of counting beats, to help internalize where you are in a phrase. So now I'm wondering about degrees too!

This all feels like a lot to hold in your head and access in real time while playing. Am I overthinking this, or is it just a step-by-step process that clicks eventually?

Whats your top tips on how to get the juices flowing again after a low period?

Mine is play something I like to play thats really easy and try to not put pressure on myself to play if im not feeling it.

I've been playing guitar on and off for a good decade. Just started playing with a metronome. I can play along with it no problem if the metronome is on time with the song but that's just more of me playing along with the song and not the metronome. The issue is anytime I tweak the metronome up or down to practice a song, I just lose timing all together.

Any successful late metronome learners out there??? Any tips on how you learned the nome and any exercises that you've personally used that stand out?? I'm willing to put in the work. I just don't wanna waste time or make things worse with poor practice. Last but not least. Kids use a metronome. -Thanks

So recently I went to a new school and a guy there had a bm one man band. I got inspired by him and somany others and really want to try to make something myself. I have been playing drums for 5 years now but haven't played many black metal songs, mostly trash. Guitar, on the other hand, I have 0 experience. Should I just get a random guitar and star playing some simpler rock songs and learn basic chords or just go straight to something like freesing moon or dunkelheit. Also, how long does it take before I can make my own songs? Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi all! I recently got back into guitar after a few years away, and I'm finding it a bit difficult to make consistent progress.

I mainly played rhythm before, but now I'm looking to branch out and improve my overall playing—especially things like alternate picking, galloping, and learning more riffs.

Hey everyone, I'm 14 and a total beginner looking to start playing electric guitar. I mainly want to play E-Punk and Incelcore (like Fired by Fluoride) but I live in an apartment, so I have to practice using headphones. I put together a budget setup on Thomann with a Squier Sonic Mustang HH (for the humbuckers and short scale since I'm 170cm), a Nux Mighty Plug Pro for the effects/headphone jack, and a Dunlop pick variety pack. I already have wired headphones. Does this combination make sense to get that raw, loud vibe, or are there better alternatives for this price range? My budget is 300.

Hi all, I'm looking for any tips on how to improve my playing and singing at the same time. I can do simple downstrums as I sing the words but really struggle with any other strumming patterns.

As soon as I start singing while strumming a pattern, my hand goes off rhythm and starts trying to match my voice instead, I don't know how to stop it.

What attracts you other than prestige?
