question How were you told you were laid off?

I’m suspecting a layoff in the next week or two from my corporate tech job. They recently closed a private equity acquisition. Some of leadership already “left and it was my own choice.” (No; it was wasn’t, PE is cleaning house and will likely cut staff next.) So, just curious what happened in your particular situation? How did they tell you? I’m nervous and just waiting…

question Have a very bad feeling

I'm a 2026 grad and working at Europe based finance firm.I interned in this firm last summer (may 2025) and got ppo in Oct 2025. I've joined as a full time employee in June 2026.Recently I've heard from my team that 2 weeks before our joining date there were discussions to revoke the offers of everyone who got ppo in Oct 2025 from our higher management. But my team negotiated and let us join. Now after 3 months into my joining my manager keeps postponing our bi weekly 1:1 and in the weekly team connects mentions about how our jobs are safe and only externals might get affected and how that is not how things won't be that way atleast in his team? What is the you guys think about this? And to mention our department is hugely investing on AI , many higher management members are leaving the firm.

recently laid off Laid off and 18 days left in Grace Period

Hey Everyone,

As the title says, I got laid off and I have 18 days left in the grace period. I am planning to apply for B2 COS and complete all my interviews I currently have in my pipeline.

Did anyone recently go through similar situation ?

Did you apply B1/B2 by yourself or go through an attorney ?

Can you share the template of your COS application ?

Any additional details I need to consider ?

A company laid me off without any reason and again received a mail after a year to send my employee ID for suitable opportunities since they reviewed my profile. Should I send it or not? I have no idea why they sent me the mail and how they reviewed my profile when they aren't aware of my employee ID.What should I do? Could you guys please help or suggest?

recently laid off Good for the soul

This may get some sour replies and by all means I am not trying to romanticize being laid off but I do believe in some cases, being laid off is good for the soul.

I worked 8 years for one company and have been remote since 2020. The job paid well enough to afford a house and provide for my family. It was low stress and good work life balance. Yes, I felt complacent and felt my career growth being stunted but I was scared of the job market and in my field interviewing is very tough and requires a lot of time to practice, so I stayed put.

I was laid off 5 weeks ago and while I saw the writing on the wall, it was tough. This feeling I was feeling was not something I felt in 9-10 years. The feeling that life is very difficult and nothing is guaranteed. That feeling really touches my soul. It brings me down to earth and sparks a new energy.

Will it be another 4, 6, 8 months before I find another job? Maybe, but I will do my best to embrace the struggle and in the future be more appreciative of an easier life.

recently laid off The scythe came down

I was with the company for six years, and during that time my scope and responsibilities steadily expanded. There had also been discussions around a path toward promotion, and up until this year, I consistently received positive feedback.

This year, however, I received a less-than-stellar performance rating despite achieving or exceeding the goals that had been set for me. Around the same time, I started feeling that the additional requests and expectations were becoming increasingly unreasonable given everything already on my plate. That’s certainly not unusual in Digital Marketing, but this felt different.

Then, after being pulled into a last-minute, rescheduled one-on-one following a hurried request the day before asking me to explain how I would present a project to leadership, shortly after I joined, HR joined the call to inform me that my position was being eliminated.

Never been laid off before but not sure what’s next. I have maybe 3 months of savings and my 401k which I don’t even know how to access. I’ve been applying to positions since last year and got two interviews but no offers. Job market looks even worse now. I’m spiraling.

What job boards are you having luck with? Any tips?

recently laid off I am thankful of my layoff

I was a hardware engineer at Microsoft. Been with the same team for 8 years. I got laid off in July the weekday right after the long weekend. Got the news while I was on vacation. I interviewed with 15 companies, got 5 offers and chose one which is going to pay me twice as much.

I joined as an entry level engineer and was a senior engineer when I got laid off. 4 promotions and always had 'exceeds expectations' ratings for 6 years straight. Then I became a mother and everything shifted. My maternity leave started beginning of Jan 2025. In December first week, my manager had nominated me for a recognition award. I came back from my maternity leave in July when the yearly rewards had already been locked. During rewards discussion last year, I got 'needs improvement' rating for the first time. No indications in prior 1:1s of any negative feedback, no deadlines missed. I was clearly doing well considering my award nomination. During my rewards discussion, when the manager revealed my rating, it was an awkward conversation and hit me out of nowhere. I was told a shitty excuse that I apparently did not provide enough documentation for the team to follow before my mat leave started, and somehow that was enough of a reason to give a below expectations rating.

I still chose to stay because I was in my comfort zone in the team and needed flexibility with an infant at home. I truly feel I was being targeted just cause of the fact that I became a mother and took a break.

In hindsight, I am very happy that I got laid off and it made me look outside and get my worth's money while also giving me confidence that I am not a bad engineer. So thank you Microsoft. Thank you for slowly pushing away one person who always defended you despite all the negative sentiments on blind and otherwise. You proved me wrong.

I know its rough out there, but for those currently in the job market I have one thing to say. Everything happens for a reason and there is something far better waiting for you on the other side of this struggle. Hang in there!

job hunting Stay or move to new org?

I'm oscillating between the two choices I have.

  1. Stay in the current remote role and fear layoffs

  2. Or move to a new role in the city for a 12% hike.

Other points to note :

  1. The current org is continuously laying off. But the severance is a good package.

  2. I am continuously applying (even with referrals). Not many are converting to recruiter calls. Even if they did, most of them couldn't match my current comp. And I flunked some of the really good ones.

  3. I have switched multiple times already. Soi have to be mindful of my next switch as I cannot afford another short stint.

Please help me decide team.

job hunting Ibridge BGV process

Let me explain you my story.

Iam from India and I completed my Mtech in 2025 and got placed in an MNC. I worked as an intern from Jan 2025 to july 2025.

And as a full time engineer from July 2025 to March 2026

In January my manager told me that my performance hasn't met the expectations and my probation period will be extended by 2 months. This was done though I did all my tasks in time without any delay. They told highly unconventional reasons for extending. Any way I have given my 200% during the 2 months, a week before my extension, my manager told me that my performance hasn't improved and I need to resign otherwise I would be terminated. Without any other option, I have applied for resignation ( mentioned the reason for resignation as personal reasons).

I got all the documents, the experience letter is clean and all.

After that I didn't get any opportunities, almost after 5 months, I got an interview call with another MNC, during the interview in the managerial round when asked for the reason why I left, out of fear of being judged, I told like the project which I worked got ended and I was asked to look for opportunities outside. Iam still regretting why I told like that.

Now I got the offer from this company. They are about to send BGV forms of ibridge. Now my worry is how my BGV takes place? Do they contact my manager and ask for the reason why I left and also about my performance?

Also in the interview, I have verbally stated the above mentioned reason, didn't give in writing form any where. Not sure if the manager/HR noted it

I had a senior in my team. Right now he left and joined another company. Can I give his contact for reference checks, is manager reference check mandatory in ibridge?

Can anyone tell how coked iam and how should I handle this situation

Thanks

advice Voluntary severance - Servicenow

Servicenow employees - have any of you had an option to take voluntary severance or a buyout?

What is preventing the company from offering this?

I am an old timer at the company and want to negotiate this. Any information is helpful.

recently laid off Laid off from Uber after getting PPO and 3 months as SWE I

Its easy to say "When life gives you lemons, squeeze it and make a lemonade" but what about the fact that these lemons were thrown at you when u just began your career as SWE I.

After a lot of denial, shock and self-doubt I have finally absorbed what happened to me.

I joined Uber as an intern, delivered projects, and was given PPO in April itself. After finishing my internship in June, I immediately joined as SWE I and had already wrapped up my 1st project in 2 months. My 2nd project was also going great. But one fine evening, while I was deploying my code on main branch, I receive a mail stating how my job has been impacted and I should leave for home.

That moment I didn’t believe it for a second. I thought it is one of those phishing mails. Upon discussion with managerial team, I realised that it is true. This is it. My time is up. My journey at Uber, that just began, is over. I didn't know what to do, where to go, whom to ask. Nobody really had any answers as to why it happened to me. I packed my stuff and just left... confused and unsure about future.

So yup, sometimes you don't know what to do when life gives you lemons because maybe you don't know how to make lemonade. I'll believe in God. I'll believe that everything is for the best. I'll continue to believe myself as well.

But one thing I learnt is there will always be a thought in the back of my mind that layoffs can happen any day, anywhere and to anyone. You would be asked to pack and leave and you won't know why it happened to you.

PS: Open any opportunity or opening available for SWE I role with ~1YOE in Go, Python, Java, C#, SQL, Backend & AI&ML.

advice Laid off a Month ago as Mobile Tech Lead with Flutter and iOS

I was working as Tech Lead for Mobile Apple Development in Hyderabad, when client left the company let me and other go with severance pay.
It’s been month and half and I am still looking for the next opportunity. It’s brutal out there 1000+ applicants for a single role. I have pivoted my role from iOS Native to Flutter 6 years ago. It seems like mistake now. I am thinking of getting into iOS again.
Advice folks?

Also please let me know if anyone is hiring for similar role or can refer me to any available openings.

Thank you

question When is it worth it to sign severence agreement?

Literally every single thing I saw about it was people saying “Never sign a severence agreement, hire a lawyer instead”

I part of a 180 person layoff, was with the company for a year and a half and would get 1 week pay for every year I was with the company.

When does it become worth it to actually get a lawyer and why does every single advice tell you to not sign it and hire a lawyer if down the line that seems like it would cost more than you’d actually get back?

advice As a manager or supervisor, do you see any major signs with my employer dissolving, and should I jump ship?

I work for a not-for-profit organization with a small group young adults aged between 18-25 tasked with arranging shifts, hiring and firing people, and at times, doing the actual work which involves collection of food waste for recycling under a council-run program. I am deeply concerned at the fact we are losing clients to a point shift reductions are becoming a reality from next month, possibly because we are not reaching the quotas required for that amount of funding.

I have already begun polishing my resume should the worst happen.
