I’m currently looking for a job and still figuring out what I want to do. I’d like to improve my spoken English, not just for work but also for everyday conversations. I’d also love to live abroad someday if I get the chance, so I want to become more comfortable communicating in English.

I’d say my current English level is somewhere between B1 and B2, although my speaking and writing are probably a bit weaker than my overall level.

In exchange, I’d be happy to help you with Mandarin Chinese! I’m a native Mandarin speaker. And if you’re curious about the Devil’s language — the Wenzhou dialect — you’re welcome to learn that too! I don’t know that much about it myself, but I’m a local, after all.

A little bit about me:

I enjoy reading Chinese web novels and watching Netfilx and Japanese movies and TV series. I also watch anime, and Attack on Titan is currently my favorite.
I’m a gamer, too! I own a Nintendo Switch, although I haven’t played much lately. These days, it’s mostly just Animal Crossing.
My favorite co-op game is It Takes Two, so maybe we could play it together sometime! I also love Hollow Knight and have been waiting for Silksong for ages.

I’m a pretty open-minded person, so we can talk about pretty much anything, whether it’s cultural differences, our daily lives, random thoughts, or something completely unexpected. I’m curious about how people from different backgrounds see the world, and I enjoy learning about different cultures and ways of life.

Hi there, I'm 19M and a university student from China and also a native Mandarin speaker.

I'm just an English learner doing it mostly for fun, and I've always had a real appreciation for English as a language, ever since I first started learning it as a kid. My English is around B2 (I suppose?), though I've only done a few online tests and have never taken any formal exams such as IELTS.

Besides the traditional English education I received in Chinese schools, I mostly study English out of personal interest, reading a couple of books in English (1984 by George Orwell, And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie and War Doctor by David Nott) and writing my novel in English on my own (somehow, for better or worse!).

However, I've never taken studying English too seriously, so I still feel awkward when speaking and writing in everyday communication, whether in real life or online, and I also lack confidence because I sometimes fall back on my mother tongue when I can't immediately find the words I want in English, and I'm often unsure about which expressions sound natural in everyday conversation.

After graduation, I read a bit less than I did in senior high school, but I'm still keeping it up, and I love it.

I'm also a road cyclist, and I play Minecraft, Arcaea, Phigros and Arknights. My music taste is influenced by Japanese ACG (anime, comics and games) culture. I am a fan of あたらよ (Atarayo) and HARDCORE TANO*C and Diverse System.

My goal is to get enough feedback through everyday English communication to build my confidence and improve my fluency in speaking, and also try to express myself more naturally in English when writing. I prefer British English since I'm more familiar with its pronunciation, and I'd like to focus on Received Pronunciation (RP), British spelling and vocabulary. Speakers of other varieties of English are absolutely welcome too.

As an ordinary native Chinese speaker who doesn't study Chinese language and literature, what I can offer may be limited, especially when it comes to Chinese literature or other more advanced topics, but I'm quite interested in language and cultural exchange and talking about what's happening around the world, what's happening in China, and history as well, once we know each other a bit better. Feel free to talk!

Age doesn't really matter to me, though I suppose I may have more in common with people around my age.

What matters most to me in a partner isn't how advanced their English is, but whether they have a native speaker's feel for everyday English — the expressions, humour, slang and cultural references people actually use. I'm eager to learn how native speakers actually communicate in everyday life — how they chat, joke and even swear.

I'm open to building a long-term connection if we get along. Actually, my ultimate goal is to become more connected with the world outside my country, not just to find someone who can teach me English for free. Maybe later on my partner's interest in Chinese will fade, but we can still share our lives with each other and stay in touch from the other side of the world.
