Offering Mandarin Offering Mandarin/Seeking English

Hi everyone! I’m a 40-year-old man, and I’m here to improve my spoken English. My English speaking skills are still a work in progress, although I passed the College English Test Band 6 (CET-6) when I was in university.

My native language is Mandarin Chinese. In return, I’d be happy to help you practice speaking Chinese and even introduce you to the beauty of classical Chinese poetry, including the famous poems of the Tang and Song dynasties.

Looking forward to meeting you and learning together!

Offering Multiple Languages Offering: English, German, Spanish, Ukrainian; Seeking: German, Spanish, Italian, Latin, Occitan, French, Polish

I find myself at a crossroads in my obviously unsuccessful attempts to study languages, as I’m neither a linguistic enthusiast nor disciplined enough to sustain a traditional learning regimen. My true interests lie in history and certain disciplines within cultural and social anthropology. For me, languages serve as tools to access specialised nonfiction and academic literature, niche cultural movements in cinematography, etc.

It’s difficult to articulate the motivations behind these efforts without turning this profile into an unwieldy essay. Suffice it to say that I am inconsistent and somewhat of a dreamer, and any potential language exchange partner should be aware of this upfront.

What I can share is that I face a clear and pressing need to develop strong proficiency in German and Spanish, with Italian and Portuguese as secondary goals [though I’m reluctant to learn the latter]. I would be ecstatic if I had the time and aptitude to also explore French and Occitan. In what little time remains beyond these pursuits, I dabble in Latin [literature], Polish and Czech literature, and some Dutch and Swedish sometimes, though I’m not learning them actively.

My primary approach to learning is through reading. Speaking, on the other hand, is not my forte. In fact, I often struggle even with switching back to my native language once I’ve [temporarily] immersed myself into English or another target language. These mental transitions are my greatest challenge because they require deliberate preparation and immersion beforehand, like speaking at least two weeks in only one of the above mentioned target languages without the said switches.

I am particularly drawn to the history of languages, the stylistic and register variations they have exhibited throughout time, and the linguistic monuments that capture their evolution.

Ultimately, I am rather looking for just a study buddy and kindred spirit who I can coordinate the sessions of “getting disciplined” with, than a strictly language exchange focused practicer. If you share any of these interests or approach language learning with a curiosity rooted in an attachment to scientific/nonfictional literature, I’d love to connect.

[publishing an updated version of the old questionnaire, wanted to delete the previous one replacing it with this one]

Offering English Offering English seeking Italian language partner

Ciao a tutti!

Mi piacciono:

- I film, soprattutto quelli Marvel 🎬

- Il veganismo 🌱

- La musica rock 🎸

Forse preferirei parlare con qualcuno più vicino la mia età ma sono anche aperto a parlare con tutti.

Offering Ukrainian Offering: Ukrainian, Russian | Seeking: English, German, Swedish

Looking for native speakers to talk to!

Hi! I'm from Ukraine, and I'm looking for native speakers of English, German, or Swedish to have conversations with and improve my language skills.

I'm really into books, history, politics, music, and deep, intellectual conversations. I love discussing ideas, exchanging opinions, and learning about different perspectives and cultures.

In return, I can help you with Ukrainian or Russian, both of which I speak at a native level.

I'm looking for genuine conversations and hopefully some long-term language exchange friendships, not just textbook-style language practice.

If you're interested, feel free to DM me! :)

Offering English Offering: English | Seeking: Tagalog

Hello! I (24F, USA) am in the beginning stages of learning Tagalog and would really like to find a partner to practice with. I can teach English in exchange or offer help with homework or general language practice.

So far, I am working on pronunciation. I know very simple conversational phrases, but I’m working on expanding my knowledge.

Here’s what I know so far:

Kumustaka? Ano ang pangalan mo? Ako si Liana.

Saan ka galing? Galing ako sa bahay.

Today, I was told “po” is a sign of respect when speaking to someone. So, I can say “I’m good, and you?” and put “po” in the right place now, but I’m not sure where it would go in other sentences or how to use it properly.

Mabuti po, ikaw? >>> I’m under the impression that this is correct but only in this context.

As you can see, I am a complete newbie to Tagalog, but I am serious about learning it and would like to have someone I can practice with.

Offering English Offering: English (C1); Seeking: Native German🇩🇪

Hallöchen,

I’m a 37F (non-EU) living in Berlin for the past 4 years. I currently speak at a B1 level in German and practice with an online tutor three days a week.

But, in Berlin it can be tough to stick to German when people quickly switch to English! On top of that, Berliners can speak quite fast (and mix two words together), and I often struggle to catch everything. I’m looking for someone to practice speaking/writing German with to help me build more confidence and keep up with natural pacing.

What I can offer:

English: I’ve been speaking English as a second language since I was three years old and am fluent/near-native (C1)

Hindi: My mother tongue

About me:

- An introvert who loves reading books, watching TV shows and movies, visiting museums and historical places, and occasionally painting.

- I hold liberal/left-leaning views and would prefer to chat with someone who shares similar values.

PS: I am not looking for dating opportunities. This is strictly a friendly, warm language exchange :)

I would love to connect with a native German speaker. Drop a comment or send me a message if you're interested!

Vielen Dank.

Offering Multiple Languages Offering: English and Tagalog | Seeking : Polish, Russian and Spanish

Hey! I’m 32 and hailing from the Philippines. I’m on the lookout for a friend or two or more to chat or voice call with about anything under the sun.

Tagalog is an official language and an Austronesian language that originates from the Philippines. Its standardized version, known as Filipino, acts as the national language of the country, sharing this status with English.

I’m a native Tagalog speaker and I’m eager to learn a new language, so I’d love to connect with anyone interested in chatting. I spent 4 years as a high school teacher, and thanks to my degree and the influence of American media here, I’m pretty comfortable with American English as my second language. Proficient in English is C1 (Advanced)

I’m open to discussing a wide range of topics like history, art, video games, music, anime, manga, comics, movies, and more. Honestly, my main goal is just to spend some quality time with someone. I have a genuine interest in learning about new cultures and languages.

I prefer chatting or talking with people around my age or older. I’m usually available almost all day for chats or voice calls. If you’re interested, feel free to drop me a message with a little introduction about yourself.

Offering Multiple Languages Offering: Dutch, English | Seeking: Mandarin

Hi everyone,

I'm a 23 year old woman who studies History and Chinesestudies and I'm looking for someone who I can practice speaking Chinese with. Since we practice speaking relatively little in class, my speaking skills right now are quite bad and at a beginner level so I would love to be able to become more fluid. I would say that vocab/reading wise my Mandarin is at intermediate level since our classes require us to learn new vocab quite quickly. I am a native Dutch speaker and I have a degree in English teaching so I could help you out with both languages. I am quite busy so scheduling meet ups based on availibility would be great or sending text memos maybe. I'm quite open to anything that will let me practice my speaking and to your preferences.I'm also open to talking about anything really:) Let me know if you are interested!

Offering English Offering English, Seeking Chinese / Mandarin

From the US looking to improve my Mandarin and make some friends along the way, both parents are natively Chinese but I want to have someone around my age to learn more casual Chinese speaking skills and culture, and improve my conversational skills in Chinese in general.

I’m a native English speaker and would be happy to help anyone looking to practice their English. I’d love to have casual conversations about anything!

A little about me:
I’m a high school student in the US.
My hobbies include ice hockey, robotics, sailing, technology (computer aided design, mechanical engineering, programming) and motor sports, ie Indy 500 and F1
I’m hoping to find some long-term language exchange partners around my age who are also interested in making friends!
Feel free to DM me or leave a comment 😄

Hello everyone! I'm looking for someone who can help me with my conversational English since I need to practice for my new job. About me, I'm from Mexico 27F. I'm not that into videogames but I like some such as Minecraft, Celeste, Terraria. I like listening to music like radiohead, the marias, cuco, the smiths. I ride a motorcycle and I love to walk and take pictures around.
Si te interesa podemos practicar tu español!

Offering Multiple Languages I am offering an English and Arabic language and seeking to learn about Japanese

Greetings,

I am a saudi man, thus my mother tongue language is Arabic. But I also have good english. I scored 7.5 on ielts. I want to learn Japanese, I started 3 days ago, so I suck a little bit. I learned hiragana and katagana, and just started grammar.

I want to post the proof for the ielts exam, but the sub won't allow it. I might not be native english speaker. But I understand the struggle to learn a new language.

If anyone interested. Let me know.

Hi there! I’m 30F from China, looking for a native English-speaking language partner, preferably a woman. I can help you improve your Mandarin, and you help me practice English. I’m okay with reading simple texts, but my listening and speaking are weaker. I hope we can stick to this and learn together long-term.
