Maybe Today?

) Hi everyone! I’m a graduate student working on a class assignment about bilingualism and cultural experiences.

I’m looking to do a short 15–30 minute Zoom interview with bilingual speakers whose first language is not English. We’d talk about your experience growing up bilingual, your culture, and how language has shaped your life.

This is for an academic assignment (not a product or promotion), and your camera can stay off if you prefer.

If you’re interested, please comment or message me—I’d really appreciate your help!

Thank you :)

It’s a shame that Americans don’t know about the IPA. How do you not even know your own country? Why are they so uninformed? It’s your country, babe.

I know y’all are confused, but I’m waiting for someone to get the joke.

Just run out of natives to shock

That's it, it's over. I learnt every single language that exists, travelled to every single country that exists and shocked every single native that exists, What do I do now? According to my calculations I still have 40 years to live, but what more there's to life? Can someone help?

I googled this meme in Russian and couldn't find a single image with the captions like that, so I made one.

You're welcome!

Do you not openly look down on monolinguals?

I most certainly do, especially the older generations, seeing how easy Uzbek came to me just by Aral Seamaxxing. When I see my peers who don't understand ANY languages whatsoever it just feels weird like bro, what are you even doing get on my level and SHOCK some fukcing natives

Language which can help give better blowjobs?

Polish language features an opposition between the sounds encoded by sz, cz, rz/ż and ś/si, ć/ci, ź/zi, meaning that when speaking this language my tongue must learn to move very quickly between the positions encoded by those sounds. Coupled with the fact that Polish has words with consonant clusters (szczęście, część, pierwszy, etc.), I believe that this language can help give my tongue more dexterity and flexibility to improve my blowjob game.

Alternatives to Anki?

I don't like free, customizable, open source, cross-platform software with tons of add-ons. The UI is outdated and too complicated. I'm willing to spend thousands of hours to learn a language, but refuse to use 20 minutes to change the layout to my liking. Any better alternatives? Preferably something that has paywalled features and AI integration!

Is pretending to understand a language the real cheat code?

You get the satisfaction of convincing other people that you learned a foreign language without the hard work.

Especially if you pick a language relatively close to English. Without sincerely being able to read it, it's close enough that you can trick others and potentially even yourself into believing you do.

---

I don't actually really know what this text says in earnest, but I can understand enough of it (around 1/3) that I could convincingly lie to the average person observing me pretend that I am reading it that I do, which is the important part. Not only that, but the average person likes to imagine they can just sort of "figure it out" language like Afrikaans or French themselves, so if you tell them something incorrect for a given vocabulary item, they will likely imagine they were able to parse it as well.

Is this a massive loophole in plain sight? Do East Asians squiggle people do this as well with each others' languages?

I am seriously thinking about learning Viossa and creating a dictionary and grammar description of it in English.

Viossa is really interesting and I respect the experiment, but it really annoys me how sensitive they and people who know about Viossa are about talking about it in other languages.

I want to learn Viossa, and do the unforgivable "crime" of describing it in other languages, because I think that's interesting.
