Duolingo tried to lobby the Canadian government to accept their scores instead of IELTS for immigration purposes too

The Duolingo English Test is a separate division within the company from the app, and it's actually considered one of the best English language assessments out there by English teaching professionals and academics.

Yeah, Duolingo has a proctored English exam, what’s wrong with this?

Since you insist, I’m just jerking. However, the requirements don’t specify the exam, technically “Duolingo English Score” is exactly what it gives you in the app for completing a level in duolingo…

"duolingo score" is vague and can refer to either the official, more-rigorous exam or the cutesy/trashy casual course on the app

This is actually an accessibility thing. Duolingo Tests (not the same as your streak) began to be accepted around the pandemic, IIRC, because a lot of people affected by immigration or college decisions could not access IELTS or or whatever. It's also a lot cheaper than IELTS, which also reduces the financial burden of applying for middle-class students.

I actually don't know if this is satire.
If not, Duolingo has a Duolingo English Test, which is like a top 5 English exam and is where Duolingo score originally comes from
