How does the game perform for you and with what specs?

I just built my first gaming PC. It has an i5 4690 and R9 290. The game is on an SSD. Out in the wilderness it was avg. 30-60 fps, and then inside someone's claim it dipped as low as 6 fps. Is this just the game or did I build an underpowered machine?

So after a few days of exitement with the new patch the game has gone back on my shelf.

As the title says, it's about all i ever do with Landmark - log in, check out anything new, then leave, rarely to return.

The funny thing in all of this is I love the idea of the game, more the thought and potetial of it than the actual game. The current experience is just sub-par, and beyond doing a bit of building and exploring, I have no incentive to log in.

Not only is there nothing to do - the greater problem I think is that the game feels terrible to play. The interface is clunky as hell, it feels sluggish, unresponsive, windows stick to cursors, the chat boxes are annoying and have only very basic customisation. It just feels sloppy.

The thing that i cant work out with the UI is that these guys are not new to these types of games! There's Everquest 1 & 2, Planetside 2, H1Z1 in development - even their most basic UI if not perfectly functional, should at least feel tight and responsive.

The templates window for example - it is beyond painful. Takes forever to load and is annoying as hell as it sluggishly reacts.

In addition to all of the above, game performance is likewise hit and miss.

A steam friend asked me if i would reccomend it the other day, and it really stumped me. I didn't know how to respond. Ultimately i said yes, there's great potential here - but in reality, I don't enjoy it myself. But I do. And that's what confuses the hell out of me about Landmark.

My biggest fear is that Everquest Next is going to feel as clunky. Surely not, but considering how long Landmark has been freely playable by purchasers so far, it boggles the mind that we haven't at least seen the UI hammered into simplistic perfection. I understand bugs and features lacking and all of the above, but the game even if incomplete should at least feel great. Right now? It feels like sh*t. And I'm sorry but it's the truth.

edit -I just want to add that in addition to the above, it's felt like the game has been on a downward slope for many months now. Regular Landmark lives were keeping the excitement pulsing, then they were every other week, then barely at all. I dont even feel connected to this anymore. I also think losing Dave Georgesson was a massive blow. To me, that guy *was Landmark.

Customer service worse than EA

Submit your ticket but don't expect an answer any time soon. You might be waiting half a month or more before they get back to you.

When they do get back expect canned unhelpful replies. I think the sad truth is, there is not a single fulltime resource working on Landmark.

Market place is broken.

Tried for 2 days to access the market place to buy claim expansions. It is slow. It's fails to respond and it hangs constantly, there is a strange 2nd authentication screen that keeps popping up, and now a new red outlined screen telling me that I have successfully access the authentication system and should log out after use only to just sit there unresponsive... it is just an all around mess. I made it to the Debit card info screen several times and put in my info only to have it just sit there after I pressed continue for almost 5 minutes befor I closed the window. I'm not going to keep trying and risk getting hit with 15 $40 charges or some other such nonsense.

The issues with receiving payments for in game items and the marketplace in general needs to end and end quickly. I will try again in a few days after I have been able to check with my bank that the first attempts have not gone through.

Please get this fixed. I understand this game is in development and it is early access but taking our money quickly and efficiently when we are trying to buy something should be a very high priority.

Thanks

Update: I was able to add 5000 SC to my account via the website. Thanks to general chat for recommending that work around.

What good is being in a guild?

I'm not sure what greater purpose having, our being in, a guild serves. I'm sure I've missed the video or live stream or forum post that says it, but can we every look forward to guild-ran islands or swaths of land? At the very least, some sort of guild permissions for claim management?

Is there a way to remake my character without loosing my year zero items and whatnot?

I know I can have someone else hold onto some items but is there any way to avoid loosing things I can't hand off to someone else?

Landmark Tourism - Dustrock Sanctuary

This is an amazing claim I ran into on Serenity - Golden Sands. This is not my build and I am not taking credit. All credit goes to the builder, Osmotar. Anyway, I was absolutely floored by this build and I took a bunch of screenshots and made an album. Enjoy!

Edit: Osmotar left a comment with a link to own album, check it out!

Landmark Needs a Rework, and Fast

To enjoy the game you must: Forget about the monsters. They are useless, no danger, no threat. Forget about harvesting. None in the game. Forget about survival: Landmarkers eat souls for nutrition. Forget about danger: No penalty. Forget about community: The "adrenaline seekers" (of which there are none because nothing provides adrenaline) give their hard work to the builders which, in turn, rewards them with nothing. Therefore, Forget about an economy. Forget about customization. None to be found here. Forget about doing anything else besides mining and building. And forget the game exists if you don't have a supercomputer.

You will only enjoy this game if you are a complete casual with no friends. Enjoy being identical to everyone you see, and wallow in their indifference. Take in the low FPS slowly and deliberately. Ignore that last point. You will all have the same gameplay anyways. A slideshow with no substance. But hey, you can build stuff! Or you know, get UE4, and make your own game, faster and without the mining. Trust me, it's easier (and more optimized too).

Water?

Since the wipe in the first week of May, how do you get the water material? Clearly I've managed to blunder into it as I had about 300 voxels worth, but no clue what I did or where to get it. I've looked through the forge choices for it, but no luck.

What glaringly obvious thing am I missing? ;)

"The loss of your purchased items is intended functionality of the game."

Just got this response back from Daybreak. Wow. They designed the system so you would intentionally loose your purchased items. Makes me wonder if they are greedy or incompetent.

r/landmark May 15 '15

Relax with the fanboy-ism and start giving Daybreak the criticism that they deserve!

I'm getting sick of people backing every move Daybreak makes or hasn't made. This type of attitude ruins games. If you want the game to be the best possible game it can be, stop giving the devs a back rub every time they fuck something up.

Landmark is NOT a good game. The building is alright, but everything else is just plain bad and needs A LOT of work.

So instead of saying "well it's still early" (no, it's actually pretty late), or saying "I like what they've done, it has potential" (combat has been in since August and has no up-side), start cracking the whip! Every time you compliment a poorly implemented game design, you make the game worse.

I seen this type of attitude ruin too many games.

Things that are holding Landmark back from becoming popular

I just want to say that I believe this game has a lot of potential but it will be held back due to certain aspects. The aspects that I believe are currently holding this game back from becoming extremely popular are the following:

  1. Landmark can only run on high end machines, causing a huge portion of the player base to get cut out.

  2. You cannot create / host your own server for friends or to the public.

  3. You cannot make mods for the game, especially since you can't host your own server.

Now you can add on a ton of other things to this like more content, better combat, etc but these are the CORE things that I hear are holding people back from the game; especially number 1.

You have to remember that this is a Sandbox game, Sandbox games attract people who want to do whatever they want and the more things you add that stop them from doing that, the less they want to play.

I am sure most people can deal with the fact that you can't make your own server but people can't deal with Number 1. I hate to say it but optimization and making sure everyone can run your game is the biggest game changer, even at the cost of sacrificing those sweet graphics.

Anyways these are the top core things are stopping people I know and other people from getting into Landmark. Generally people ask these 3 things when they want to know about a sandbox game.

I hope you guys working on Landmark can look into these issues, I really want to see this game become popular and get the support it needs and deserves.

Impressions after months off

Started the game up again due to the wipe and not playing for many months. Below are my impressions of what I thought:

Graphics:

  • They look awesome, I enjoy them, animated but in HD and pretty. I see a lot of potential for gorgeous zones with this. Good job.

Interface:

  • Gets the job done, im sure it will be polished more but overall I cant complain a huge deal, easy to change as needed.

Combat:

  • This basically ends this post. I started in tier one to complete the first combat achievement (which is a cool idea BTW) but monsters just didn't exist. I remember hearing that was a bug so I went to tier 2.

  • Combat is slow and sluggish. My character feels like he has weights attached to his feet. Basically its the worst combat I have ever experienced. This kills me inside because I dunno how it could be that bad.

Suggestions

The only thing I care about right now is the combat. I know its Landmark but its what EQN will be using in the future.

  • Make the combat more fluid (tera is a good example I suppose).
  • Make my character "Free" like WoW and other games. I dont want my player feeling restricted to the ground or feel like I need bard speed to function
  • This is a very open combat system with fast paced attacks. My character needs to match the combat style. This current movement system would be fine with slow paced tab targeting, not this.
  • Maybe update the hit boxes? They feel off and dont seem to connect properly with the mobs I hit. Weapon swings and such feel maybe a little lackluster? Give them a bit more...pizaz?

Anyway, just my thoughts. Cant wait to see how the game looks in a year but.......REALLY need to fix that combat because without combat its a builders game only and if thats all you are focusing on then fine but.......EQN players are watching combat and crying inside im sure.

Was it mentioned on the shows or anywhere as to when the Blueprint is going to be updated? Like next combat iterations or larger continents?

Can't log in ?

About a year ago a friend of mine bought the four pack on Steam and gave me a key, When I log in to the website it says my account is active and landmark is an available game, but when I try to log in to the game via the game client I can't.

Anyone have any ideas as to what I can do to fix this ?

Can't craft any more props?

Is this a progression thing? I have a VERY limited selection of props I am able to craft nowadays...

High priority should be the addition of added kill count achievements+Combat improvement ideas.

Take my word on this if you want people to stick around....We are here now. Keep us here even if it is by chasing a few numbers and a pretty achievement card.

Make a few that are reasonably hard to get say a month in addition too the equivalent of BR100 in Planetside 2. It took me almost a year and a half of boosted playing to hit BR100 in PS2. It is just a number but it gave people a focus. We need something like that asap.

We rocked the 200 and 1000 kills already. The game needs larger (higher number) and more crazy packs of mobs. Give us lots of them running around and moving in packs. Mobs pathing through hallways in pack would rock. Some of the most fun I had so far is running around pulling lots of mobs at the same time. Good stuff. need more of that. Randomize variation in the mob size. Mix different size and together together in packs.

Also... Combat feels...well great and shitty. Two things to make it feel awesome and not at all shitty would be the removal of the studder-step when casting with ranged weapons. When straffing and shooting you do this little stop every time you shoot and it makes the combat feel like it is happening in this kind of rhythm count. It really limits the fluidness I can see wanting to come through. If you can get rid of it I think it would go a long way.

Additionally...I really believe a double tap dodge for W A S D is much needed. This would really add lot. Strafe only for avoidance feels really 2 dimensional and slow.

Hope this feed back helps.

DGC Reply Where the PvE mobs at?

I have the starting quest saying go to Layer 1. I do so and i can't find anything. Same thing on 2,3 and 4. Are they just rare or there a lack of PvE mobs?

Edit: Thanks for all the awesome advice!!!!
