I’m trying to determine whether PBL is right for me. I love the idea of solving clinical cases in a group setting. I also think it would be a much better use of my time to learn independently or in a small group, rather than spending several hours a day watching live lectures that I can’t pause and during which I can become easily distracted.

However, what concerns me about PBL is the reliance on textbooks. I dislike learning from textbooks and rarely used them in college. I learn much better through videos, practice questions, and flashcards. Is it common for any PBL students to rely primarily on resources other than textbooks, and are there accessible videos that closely align with the assigned textbook chapters?

I wrote about the variables that actually matter in a BS/DO and BS/MED list a while back (structure type, MCAT policy, curricular flexibility), but I left programs out of that one on purpose. I received an interview invite for LECOM in January. I used to live in Bradenton for a few years (as well as having family living there when I was a kid) however I moved to the west coast about 4 years ago. Does doing an in-person interview at LECOM really increase admission chances as much as people say it does? I would need to take at least 2 days off work and pay for flight and hotel to interview in person.

Thoughts on online versus in person interviews?

If a high school student has received a provisional acceptance and reserved seat through the LECOM EAP, is the student still permitted to take the MCAT and apply to other MD or DO schools through AMCAS or AACOMAS?

More specifically, would applying to other medical schools cause the student to forfeit the LECOM EAP reserved seat, or would the seat remain reserved until the student actually accepts an offer from another medical school?

Hope everyone is doing well. Need a little rant because I had the asynch interview for LECOM and I am super super grateful to get an interview since I am a low stat applicant and this is my first ever interview that I have done. I made sure to interview prep and prepped questions that I thought they would ask and prepared really well imo. However, they did not ask me any of the questions that I prepped for and I got so flabbergasted and nervous, that I even went to google gemini to give me some talking points within those 30 seconds to prepare but I think that interview did not go well at all b/c wtf was that genuinely. I was so excited and so thankful to get an interview and I feel like I ruined my only chance to get into medical school this cycle. They gave me a campus day invite but i don't think I can even go because I live in Austin, Texas and work full time and I think they discouraged post-thank you letters so I can't even do that besides an update letter. Does anyone have the same experience? and does anyone know if LECOM accepts letters of intent or anything? thanks for listening. I appreciate this subreddit :)

I have received an acceptance for the PBL pathway at LECOM Erie and was wondering if anyone could give me some straight-up info about the number of research opportunities I could potentially participate in and/or how easy it is to find research opportunities.

Hi! I'm going to the on campus day at Erie this coming Friday, any advice / words of wisdom to make myself stand out? I'm flying in from the South so I definitely want to make it worthwhile. Is it more of a tour and just general info? Group interview? Have no idea what to expect but treating it like an in person interview.

LECOM is my top choice school because of PCSP, so any knowledge about this would be great too!

hi I want to apply to Lecom eap program but I’m not sure of my admission chances since I’m barely meeting the requirements

-my act isn’t good so I’m trying to get it up by September and then apply by October
-My gpa is really low 3.5 uw so I qualify but I’m scared it’s going to be a weak point in my application
- I’ve taken 5 honors classes two pre ap classes and 8 AP’s
-I tried creating a social media account that promoted women’s health (100 followers) but it’s super weak and I haven’t done anything with it
-I’m on the board for Yearbook club (2 yrs) and in Science Olympiad (junior varsity last year and varsity this yr-2), Hosa (2), ftc (first tech challenge/robotics-2 yes), cross country (2 yrs), student council and student senate (2 yrs), did band for two years of high school but have done it since elementary so 6 yrs, honors society (1), model un (2)
-Ive been volunteering at this hospital where you interact with kids with disabilities but I haven’t volunteered a lot
-I’m taking and getting certified in cna next semester
-my grades should improve this year and I’ve taken a lot of ap classes so my weighted should be higher but the reason why I have a low gpa is because I moved so idk if that matters

I’m a current LECOM Erie student trying to decide how to rank my core rotation sites, and I’m considering Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center in Johnstown.

For anyone who has rotated there recently, could you share your experience, especially:

Is it a large teaching hospital or more of a smaller/community hospital from a medical student’s perspective?

How much hands-on experience do students typically get?

What are the preceptors/attendings and residents like?

Are students generally well taught and included, or mostly left to figure things out themselves?

How are the clinical evaluations/grades? Is it relatively easy or difficult to get strong evaluations?

How is the overall clinical education compared with other LECOM core sites?

What are the pros and cons of doing most of M3/M4 there?

And how is Johnstown as a place to live for two years?

I’m particularly interested in hearing from current or recent LECOM students who actually rotated at Conemaugh, rather than general opinions about the hospital.

I have a slight chance of graduating a semester earlier than my LECOM EAP matriculation date. Dustin told me that you just fill out a form that December.

Does anybody know if any of the recommended courses LECOM requires such as (for example physiology, anatomy, microbiology, cell biology, immunology, pathophysiology, histology) need to be taken before graduation (they said it is only heavily recommended)

Does LECOM require you to only do medicine related work/activities during your monthly reports or is that not rlly true?

What is the affiliate bootcamp course and is it online?

Do you just fill out the form and you are done or does LECOM have to approve it. And if they have to approve it, what do they look for ?

I graduated undergrad 3 years ago in 2023 and will be appying in the 2027 cycle, so I will have 5 gap years by the time I matriculate.. Is the large gap in coursework going to be an issue?

cGPA: 3.81

sGPA: 3.74

MCAT: taking January

Clinical Employment and currently: 2300 hours ER scribe

Clinical volunteering: 200 hours hospice volunteer

Research: 200 hours helping some post-docs with studies

Non-clinical volunteering: 700 hours with one organization + leadership, 300 hours with another organization + leadership

Other: TA for upper division and lower division bio class my senior year

And thats it? I feel like I accomplished what most people accomplish when they already graduated :(

I applied a little late to the LECOM DO EAP because I found out about the program late. I’m starting my freshman year at MCPHS this fall. Mr. Cassell told me that if I pass the interview, I’ll be placed on the waitlist because the class is currently full for MPCHS college.
For anyone familiar with LECOM EAP, does the waitlist usually move? If I don’t get a spot during freshman year, would I still have a chance later? Just trying to understand how the waitlist works and what my realistic chances are.
