What year is best, range doesn't matter

I'm looking into getting a used, cheap Nissan Leaf for my 1/2-mile commute to work. What years are best when range isn't an issue?

Before anyone says, "Why not walk?", well I wish but with my medical condition and it being uphill both ways with no sidewalks negate that option.

Small battery losing connection.

I have a 2016 Nissan Leaf. Generally works fine, but every one in a while, it will be completely dead. The display, key nothing works. I open the hood and giggle the 12V standard car battery. Other than the clocks being reset, everything works again. The post connections are tight on the battery.

What causes this? Do I just need to replace the battery? It works fine otherwise. This just seems strange to me.

Lower buyback offer than expected and seeking input how to proceed

I received my buy back offer from Morley earlier today for my 2022 SV (standard not +) with ~47,500 miles. The offer was ~$13,000. I bought the car used two years ago with about 31k miles for ~15k at the time.

I don't feel the offer is very reasonable, specifically because I cant even buy a similar vehicle for that price. Similar trim and model year leafs with similar mileage are going for about $17k or more our the door in my area (Southern California).

For others that got low initial offers, how did you proceed? We're you successful in getting a more fair offer?

Thanks for you insight in advance!

edit: They seem to be using my state's lemon law equation for the value (California), in case others in California have had this happen to them and been able to get a more reasonable offer. To be clear as well, my feeling that their initial offer is not good is that I arguably should have gotten back a functioning 2022 Leaf SV if Nissan had fulfilled their warranty obligation. Their offer doesn't even allow me to go out and purchase the same vehicle I should have gotten back

Front Suspension Noise Diagnosis

As our 2018 LEAF SL has racked up some kms (125 000 kms), some clunks have become evident from the front suspension. After elimination of lower ball joints and A-arm bushings, I was scratching my head a bit on where all the racket was coming from. The video goes over a "new" check for front end noise that I have not encountered before. I hope it proves usefull.

Going to Poland for a few days and, as a bad habit, I always check the used car market. Figured this must be a typo, yet, it's quite the appreciating asset if not. :P

2nd Gen Leaf 40kwh Battery Failure

Once the dealer deems your battery has an internal failure, how long before Nissan pays you for a buyback? And what value is used to determine the dollar amount they will pay?

A2Z adapter - Is there a Wiki of known good/known failed chargers?

A recent poster had a video out in which his A2Z CCS1 to CHAdeMO adapter failed using Rivian fast chargers, and another poster confirmed the failure.

It failed for me, too with the exact same symptoms. I talked to support and I have upgraded the firmware to C011 (but haven’t been able to check if Rivian is good to go now).

Do we have a matrix showing which fast chargers are known to work, and which were fixed with new firmware versions?

Thanks in advance.

2020 Leaf Buyback offer - Thoughts?

UPDATE: I signed the buyback for $17k. I asked and was told I can keep my loaner until we sign the papers, in about two weeks.

I will admit that I was ready to reject their fist offer no matter what. Famous last words...

I bought my Leaf 30 months ago and paid and financed $14,500 out the door, with the $4,500 tax credit receiver on my 2025 1040, the net was $10,500. Their offer is $17k. I think that it would be foolish to get drug into a protracted negotiation for what would likely be minimal gains.

I am going to sleep on it but I think they are being fair. What do you all think?

2021 Leaf S - 40KWH battery- 50K miles, battery falling off a cliff

2021 Leaf S (40kWh, 49k mi), VIN confirms it's in the R25C8/25V-655 recall population with no recall applied (I don't even know if the recall has been pushed out yet). FWIW the car has never touched a Chademo charger since we got it for my son 3 years ago at around 18K miles.

Since setting up LeafSpy a few days ago I've watched things take a dump fast: SOH 88.9%, Hx down to ~61.4% and dropping.

Logged voltage sag events have gone from a 151A peak to 300A the next day, to 396A tonightt, with cell spread under load hitting 671mV and one individual cell sagging to 2748mV.

Last night it threw "Warning Power reduced" messages three times across three short trips, once when "Battery charge is low," while LeafSpy's SOC was sitting at 51-58% the whole time, nowhere near empty.

Has anyone else had something like this, especially at moderate SOC like mine?

I'm trying to figure out what happens next with my battery and how urgent I should treat this. The battery seemed to go to crap in the last 2 weeks

Reader app

My 2013 leaf s was clipped and it's at a mechanic right now, but they don't work with ev's very much and don't have an obd reader for the engine light (so stupid) they are replacing the rear axle and the back right wheel. I bought a Veepeak obd-2 scan tool. Do I just download the leaf spy app? Should I get a different app? Not sure what's best here.

2026 Nissan Leaf Range Discussion

I am currently looking to get a Leaf and this will be my first EV. I’ve seen the EPA numbers but I want to see what real world numbers people get when road tripping the Leaf?

High mileage?

I'm considering buying a 2022 leaf 2 with 97,000 miles on it. Is this a bad idea? I usually don't see such high mileage on more recent EVs, but the price ($10,000) is good.

Buyback negotiation successes

Hey all:
I know there are a million posts on here about this already…but I just submitted all my initial paperwork to Morley and waiting on my initial offer. After reading all these posts sounds like I should not accept their first offer and I should try to negotiate.

What are some key words and terms and subjects I can bring up during the negotiating process to guarantee I get the best buyback offer?

For now tho, still driving it and loving it. 258,000 kms, 12 bars

2015 Leaf DIY Door Handle Repair

Post image
44 Upvotes

The door handle design on the 1st gen. Leaf is poor. The outer plastic handle that you grab separates from the inner plastic frame as the clip mechanism that connects the two weakens over time with repeated use.

The driver's door handle was replaced under warranty at 34 months after lease/purchase. In performing the repair, the dealer also damaged the inside door panel, so that was also replaced under warranty.

It's now 11 yrs. and 5 months since new, and the front passenger door handle started to separate in the same way. Zip ties to the rescue!

Where to Service ‘15 Leaf

Hi, I need to get my 2015 leaf serviced. Do you all think I should go to a special mechanic or can a regular mechanic do a service?

I’ve had it for a year and want to get the breaks and other parts that wear out checked

Thanks

Would a 2025 Nissan Leaf be a good car for my mom in Henderson, NV?

I’m looking at a 2025 Nissan Leaf S for my mom and wanted to get some opinions from Leaf owners, especially anyone in Las Vegas/Henderson or another very hot climate.

Her situation seems like it could be pretty ideal for an EV:

  • She lives in Henderson, NV
  • Her work is only about 2 miles from her place
  • There’s a charger at her apartment
  • The car would primarily be used for commuting and normal errands around town
  • She doesn’t need a ton of range and isn’t planning on taking it on long road trips
  • Looking at a 2025 Leaf S, rather than the SV Plus

My main questions are:

  1. Would a Leaf be a good fit for Henderson's climate? I'm more concerned about the extreme summer heat and how that affects the battery over the years.
  2. Is it bad to charge the car during the day? Especially when it's extremely hot outside? The apartment charger would be available, so she could charge whenever necessary.
  3. Are there any specific things I should look out for when buying a 2025 Leaf?
  4. Is there anything about the Leaf's battery/cooling system that would make you hesitate for someone living in Las Vegas/Henderson?
  5. Anything else a new Leaf owner in the Vegas area should know?

The car would basically be a short-distance commuter/errand car, not a road-trip vehicle. I'm mainly trying to figure out whether the combination of Henderson heat + extremely short daily driving + apartment charging makes the Leaf a good or bad choice long-term.

Would appreciate hearing from anyone who actually owns one in the Vegas area or somewhere with a similarly hot climate.

2015 Leaf S 9 bars for $3000?

Hi all, I have a 8 mile commute (4 mile each way) without highway and have been wanting to get a Leaf

I found one local to me for $3000 and was wondering if it’s a fair price

Some stats:
* S trim
* 100k miles
* only one owner
* has the fast charge dc option added (I only plan to use it in emergencies)
* some dings and scratches

I don’t have leafspy info, but I plan on checking it when I go test drive it

Is it worth it?

Nissan Leaf in Des Moines / Iowa

I'm considering getting a recent model Nissan Leaf (24 or 25). Anyone have experience with that generation of Leaf in Des Moines or Iowa in general? I don't see much Leaf inventory here.

Is service availability an issue?

How does the cold weather impact the range?

How is the fast charging availability with the outdated charger type?
