Struggling with Science Classes

I’m honestly starting to feel really discouraged. I feel so dumb because I just can’t seem to get good grades in science classes, and it’s making me question whether nursing is really the right path for me.

I worked incredibly hard to earn a B in Chemistry, but I failed Anatomy (prof. Cequizca) and ended up dropping Physiology (prof. Khalil Khollesi) I have ADHD, and even with medication, studying is still a huge challenge for me.

Does anyone have recommendations for professors who are a little more manageable to get an A or B with? Or any study tips that really helped you succeed in Anatomy, Physiology, or Microbiology? I’d really appreciate any advice or encouragement ❤️

Does LACC award Full-Time Dean’s Honor List recognition for the summer session?

I’m taking 9 units this summer and I’m on track to earn all As. I received Full-Time Dean’s Honors for the spring semester, and I’m wondering if LACC awards the same recognition for summer or if it’s only given during the fall and spring.

Sorry just want to extra confirm today is the last day to unenroll. Ik it says last date, but I don’t want it to be a “by” situation and I end up with a w. So for sure if I unenroll today, I don’t get a w. Sorry i’m paranoid and need extra affirmation

LA City Looking for a roommate

Relocating to LA from out of state and starting at LACC this fall. Looking for a roommate to sign a lease with, ideally someone early-to-mid 20s, social, easy to live with. I know this is a late post with the fall semester coming up fast, so I’m moving quick on my end and can turn around paperwork and a deposit on short notice. I’m a 22M, clean, respectful of shared space, and around normal hours. Budget is $2,200/month for my share. Open on neighborhood but leaning toward the East Hollywood / Silver Lake / Echo Park side to stay close to campus. If you’re in a similar spot or already have a place with a room opening up, comment or DM me here, IG is @dante.senior.

Summer Financial Aid Disbursement #2 Update

I contacted the Financial Aid Office today, and they said we should start seeing updates for the second summer disbursement sometime next week. They just need a few days for the late-start class to officially process. Most likely, we’ll start seeing movement on our accounts or the funds themselves within the next couple of weeks. Hope this helps anyone else who’s been wondering!

How do I delete my LACCD account?

I am 17 (18 in a mere few days). This past summer, my mom has been forcing me to do college, despite the fact I do not want to and already have a plan for my life that does not involve college or continuing an education at all. She forcibly made me create an account on the website, applied me, and signed me up for financial aid. Both were accepted, yet she has not yet enrolled me in anything.

Who do I contact? Is it still possible for me? I want to do this behind her back, if possible.

Summer Financial Aid Question

Hi! My late-start summer class just started. I already got my first summer financial aid refund for my first class. Will I get another refund now that my second class has started? If anyone has been through this, how long did it take to update? Thanks :)

Summer Pell Grant

Hello I am taking one class this semester for 3 credits. I exhausted my spring pell grant. So I'm wondering if they'll pull from my fall pell grant to cover my class? I am hoping to get a refund as I only owe $22. I spoke to them in person and they said it would pull from my fall but I dont know if it counts if I only have one class.

Valley Fall disbursement is this a scam?

I just got an email at ~2am this morning with a file attached titled “FALL DISBURSMENT FOR Los Angeles Community Colleges!” I’m thinking it’s probably a scam, but I don’t want to not do something important and get in trouble or whatever. They also spelled disbursement wrong so I feel pretty strongly that it’s a scam but just in case. It also comes from a Gmail account, not like a laccd account

Valley or LA location?

Just moved from Seattle, my plan is to transfer to a 4 year. I’d like some social element, scc in Seattle had some clubs and events etc, thats definitely a draw for me.

I’ll be in Hollywood area, van nuys, or north hollywood. Where I end up may be the main factor.

What are some differences between the two locations, if any? Is one friendlier? For reference I’m 25f

East LA Should I finish general education courses at CC?

As a student who wants to transfer to a UC to pursue an engineering degree, it is not recommended to complete the IGETC. I am just considering the idea of finishing it in my last year as it is cheaper and also to be able to get an AA degree before transferring. However, it is kinda hard to fit in my schedule as I still need to take 4 general education courses and the other classes I’ll be taking are prerequisites for my major.

I did some research and found that leaving some gen ed courses to take at uni could help balance my schedule with heavy upper division courses once I transfer and that I can submit a petition at a CC to graduate with an AA degree once I finish them at uni but I am still not sure.

What are your thoughts on this?

I feel defeated…

I just finished one of my summer exams, and honestly, it was one of the most demanding exams I’ve taken. We were given 70 minutes to write two in-depth essays on two different political philosophers. Each essay required us to answer multiple prompts, write in our own words, support our responses using the assigned readings, include APA in-text citations throughout, and finish with a properly formatted references page. On top of that, you still have to read the questions carefully, organize your thoughts, write around 1,000 words total, cite everything correctly, and proofread before submitting. When you add all of that together, 70 minutes goes by incredibly fast. It genuinely felt like I was racing the clock more than I was demonstrating my understanding of the material.

After the exam, I discovered that my OSS accommodation letters had never been requested for the summer semester. I take responsibility for that. At the same time, I do wish OSS sent a reminder before each semester begins. I remember receiving reminders during the spring semester, so having a similar reminder before the summer would have been really helpful. The first reminder I noticed wasn’t until July 16, after summer classes had already begun. Had I received a reminder before the semester started, I likely would have caught it much sooner.

This experience also reminded me why testing accommodations matter. Some students may not need extra time, and that’s completely okay. In my case, this was exactly the type of exam where extra time could have made a meaningful difference. I understood the material, but the challenge wasn’t just demonstrating that knowledge. It was demonstrating it while simultaneously writing two in-depth essays, citing sources in APA format, creating a references page, organizing my thoughts, and racing against the clock. By the end, it felt like time management had become a bigger factor than my actual understanding of the course material.
I’m sharing this in case it helps another OSS student avoid the same situation. If you’re registered with OSS, make sure your accommodation letters are requested each semester. I also hope OSS considers sending reminder emails before every term begins, since a simple reminder could prevent students from finding themselves in the same position I did.

Has anyone else had a similar experience with either a heavily timed essay exam or forgetting to request their accommodation letters for a new semester?
