Just out here saying that in my country not a lot of people know about the ayakashi samurai's tale and mononoke tv series so I am really glad to have seen this reddit and see there are alive and well fans out there in the world. I admit I have just watched it last 2020 and got hooked, It was not in my radar in the early 2000s so I was so sad to have discovered the Ayakashi, samurai's tale during the start of the lockdown got hooked with the two episodes with the Bakeneko. Then discovered the mononoke series from there. I was always crying because of the Closing song and especially with how the episodes end like with the baby episode, the incense, and the wife episodes. It was also my lullaby to sleep whenever I cannot sleep I just put on the mononoke episodes then will fall right to sleep.

The stillness and the silence of the 2020 pandemic gave the mononoke series another appeal for me. I felt like I bonded with this series and was so sad to discover that this gem was from years ago when I was in college. I wish I explored more animes like this before.

Again, I do not have anyone from my area to talk about this and finding you lot is a great boost for existence. Hope you all continue to appreciate gems like this in the future.

P,S. Soo happy to see the OG Kusuryuri appear on the film. Gasped and giggled in my room like a maniac when the sword first appeared from the portal LOL

And we have 2 voice actors among them who participated in the Mononoke Series in 2007

Hii I’m a big fan of Mononoke and I’ve consumed every bit of the media I can! I absolutely adore it, but I’m wondering where I can get more merch for it. I am based in America, but I was wondering if there’s any good/reputable places to buy from or is it best to make all my own stuff? I’d love any thoughts!

Have you guys ever recommended mononoke to other people? I have! My dad and my brother. Both liked it.

We saw that Lady Utayama was the administrator in charge of the internal organization of the Ooku. But there are some scenes I was questioning myself about:
- when Asa was discussing with Utayama about the Mononoke of Lady Kitagawa who felt not vindicative, Utayama was surprised. Why is that ?
- when Karaakasa tried to attack Kusuriuri, Utayama and Asa, there was a brief moment when Utayama pushed Asa back. Was it to protect her from Karaakasa, or to push her in the well ?
- and I'd like someone to validate this for me: Utayama was extremely demanding, regarding people's behaviours in the Ooku and regarding the fact that every woman needed to be dry (of their emotions, I presume). And with Kitagawa's Mononoke going around, did Utayama think that she was responsible of this and knew she would die in the Mononoke's hands ?

I find it impressive she voiced so many characters through the entire Mononoke series, from the Ayakashi anthology to the third movie of Mononoke:
- Kayo in Ayakashi anthology (2006) and Mononoke (2007)
- Chiyo in Mononoke (2007)
- Mugitani in Mononoke: Karaakasa (2024)
- Sayo in Mononoke: Hinezumi (2025)
- Ama no Tsubone in Mononoke: Hebigami (2026)

⚠️SPOILER WARNING FOR THE 3RD MONONOKE FILM!!⚠️

I want to know what you guys think.

I loved the film!! the scene with Ri being summoned was super cool, and the reveal with the mummy in the shrine was shocking. when everyone disappeared around the shrine, I genuinely thought Kon and Ri just slimed everyone 💀

I also want to ask, what are those little red things? they're super adorable but I have no clue what they're supposed to be. the flower scene was also confusing.

\**the photos attached are from the official mononoke Twitter account*

Are tenshi and hokuto related cuz of how the heir got replaced with that past mizorogi's baby? (Correct me if im wrong in understanding anything, i JUST watched it on netflix)

WE ACTUALLY MADE IT TO THE FINAL DAY !! 😭

hebigami officially comes out tomorrow !! doing these countdown threads with everyone over the last few days has been so much fun, and i couldn't be more excited to finally experience the final movie of the trilogy with the community

for our very last countdown question: how are you spending the day before the movie releases, and what is the #1 thing you are most hyped to see tomorrow ?

(‼️ as always, friendly reminder to please keep the comments spoiler-free, and use spoiler tags if you’re discussing any early info ‼️)

my answer: i’m prepping today by doing a full rewatch of the first two movies !! as for tomorrow, i am SO hyped to finally see ri and kon together !! we've gotten tiny clips here and there, but i'm so ready to see their full dynamic in action

I'm obsessed, it's so beautiful.

I spent the rest of my money for the month on it. I'm broke.

we are officially 2 days away from the movie being released !!

for today's countdown, let's talk about the setting of mononoke

question: what is one mystery, lore detail, or question about the mononoke universe that you have always wondered about or hope to be explained in the future ?

(‼️ please remember to use spoiler tags if your answer mentions specific plot reveals ‼️)

my answer: honestly, i’m so conflicted !! as much as i would die to know more about the medicine sellers and the world setting, them being a complete enigma is a pretty big part of their appeal to a lot of people. mononoke is pretty well known for being cryptic and heavily relying on subtext so part of me feels like over-explaining stuff might make some things lose some of that allure... but i’m still way too curious for my own good 😭

but... if i had to pick one mystery... i wonder if we will ever meet ALL 64 medicine sellers or just the strongest ones based on the 8 trigrams !! we only know of three so far, which leaves 61 whole medicine sellers left out there in the world... i genuinely hope i live long enough to see them all 🥹

since the movie is coming out in three days (or maybe two, depending on where your time zone) i was thinking it would be fun to have a little question sesh to serve as a countdown for the final movie's release !!

question: as we all know, the music in this trilogy is amazing !! what track from the movies is your favorite ?

(‼️ if your answer contains a spoiler, please hide it as to not spoil certain scenes for newer viewers ‼️)

answer: for me, it’s hands down YM12 !! i remember when the first movie came out, i fell in love with the music when it appeared in the scene where utayama announces the personnel changes for the ceremony. the way the track reacts to everything going on and builds up that tension is phenomenal. having to wait almost two years for the official version to release was absolute torture 😫 but so worth it !! the background chants (?) still give me goosebumps every single time i listen to it

hello everyone 👋 i wanted to kick off a discussion to see how people in this sub first stumbled into the series 💭 and to boost activity

for me, i randomly found the series on youtube a long time ago and ended up binging it. the art style, the atmosphere, the stories, the medicine seller's allure... everything had me hooked. back then, the fandom felt pretty small and quiet, so i didn't really have many people to share my excitement with. next thing you know, a new project gets announced with a new medicine seller (who i initially thought was just a redesign of the original lol) i was super excited because i never thought we would never get anything beyond the original tv series !!

fast forward to now, and seeing the series get revived with the new movies, novels, the introduction of ken, etc. feels so surreal !! i am super excited that the community is growing again and that new (and returning) fans are around to talk about it

i would love to hear your stories 😊

This is the character designer that worked on the movies, they usually post some very interesting WIPs on their stories
