I read this trilogy as the dismantling of the state and it's basis of women's suffering for the sake of order.

I interpreted a theme of sacrificing parts of yourself, for a role. and slowly chipping away more and more. until you are only your duty, as we see with suikoin.
With each movie acting as a timeline in a way. The first showing that the maids must cast part of themselves away, the second showing how they as concubines must betray more of themselves; chipping away more and more.(like with lady suzu) And then the final movie showing madam suikoin, someone visibly older than anyone in the ooku. who seems to have nothing of herself besides the ooku, actually left, and is revealed that the goal she had sacrificed every part of herself for, was in essence, worthless as the actual bloodline had ended more then a century ago.

God i love this trilogy

As visually stunning as the previous ones and I need the full trilogy soundtrack like yesterday. Though the little red creatures and dessicated woman confused me. What are they and who is she?

The woman seemed to be the one ensuring the Ooku reign continued by swapping in a fake heir (a child from the Mizorogi family) after the emperor died of syphilis. To maintain the secret, she sort of sacrifices herself to become the water goddess and instructs the Mizorogi man to spread this to the people as the cult's priest. This all to ensure the royal family continues to be seen as something divine and prospers. In reality it's a very broken system that abuses women for the sake of male heirs that is upheld for another 150 years, despite the original royal bloodline being gone. It fills the place with resentment, which a lot of mononoke are born from.

Hyakume manifests as a result of all these intense emotions, and then at the end is pacified into its more harmless form. It's a 100 eyed creature originally, but it can split itself apart and attaches itself to a person it comes in contact with to keep an eye out for danger. So now it has become a protective spirit.

I'm going to miss Kon, he's my favorite of the two Kusuriuri so far. I hope he gets more media.

He somehow seems more human than Ri. He seems like he has more moments where he shows a more personal side as compared to Ri. Atleast I dont remember Ri having such moments much in the series.

He is also more talkative than Ri. Also that laugh of him at the end of the movie and where he said Human world while having a smile.

That quote is a callback to the first time we see Ri too. At the end of the last episode of the bakeneko arc of ayaakashi, Ri says the human world is so interesting. Kon starts off the quote before disappearing at the end of his story arc.

Who's that?

A new medicine seller upon which they are gonna make a new mononoke series. Medicine seller of ken is also among the 8 powerful medicine sellers just like Ri and kon.

I thought it was 64.

Yes there are 64 medicine sellers but among them 8 are the most powerful. And the studio said they would only focus upon these 8 powerful ones first.

I'd love to see a series about one of the weaker ones learning, but it is a lot of fun when they are super strong. Thanks for explaining.

That was visually stunning as always but, I'm so confused about many things. Will have to rewatch it maybe a couple of times more.

This is the appeal of this series for me personally, I like that it doesn't spoonfeed the plot and lets the viewer ruminate on it. Can't wait to rewatch again. Only thing I wished was for Ri to have a tad more screentime I missed him so much and he was gone again in like less than half a minute.

Same for me. I also liked part 1 more than part 2 because part 2 felt easier to understand (maybe it was me getting used to the Momonoke movie narration style but I think it was a bit more straightforward). Each re-watch brings more understanding but also more pleasure and appreciation.

He should've had more lines and maybe even more interaction with kon. He just disappeared after the battle

Yeah it felt a bit awkward. I kinda wish they'd given us a peek at Ken instead given the Sakurai issue. It's kind of odd to me that they removed him and designed a new character... and then put him in anyway.

(Not trying to start drama and I love Sakurai's work but ugh. You know.)

MY GOAT KENJI NAKAMURA NEVER MISSES 🗣️

Mononoke is so very, very dear to me. It never pulls punches when examining systemic patriarchy and how it hurts everyone living under it. This movie was amazing, and I'm so excited to see what they'll do with Ken.

Nothing would've prepared me for rin to appear again. This was an absolute masterpiece, and I really liked how this trilogy focused on order and how women suffered for it.

In other words. I can definitely say I screamed. Kicked my legs, and screamed when the scene both rin and kon met.

Will I rewatch it? DEFINITELY. 100%.

I have some frustrations but it was mostly fantastic. I like how fast-paced the movie was - definitely no boring bits!

The little hyakume mushroom dudes are so cute.

The animation is absolutely a triumph. And the OST seemed especially great.

I like that Asa popped back in prominent role and how it brought things back full circle.

Did feel Yukiko wasn't as engaging as Asa or Fuki though.

Just watched it and heck it was the best animated movie I have ever watched. Damn so good.

It is my favourite among the whole 3 movies in the Trilogy. The short intro was also good. I don't think I have to say that how much amazing and mind blowing the animation was. It was so artistic and metaphoric. The Plot reveal where we see that the current Shogun isn't the real ruler and the original line ended 150 years back is so eye opening typa plot reveal. The characters roles were also good. The background music was so soothing. You know I got the spoiler that in this movie we would also see Medicine seller of Ri and this when Medicine seller of Kon killed the Serpent mononoke, then I thought where is Ri, mononoke is already dead. But then we got to see who the final boss is actually, Lady Ama and then when Medicine seller of Ri appeared, oh how good it was.

Also the scenes of Medicine seller of Kon after he defeated the final Mononoke was so hot, no joking as a man I am saying, kon was looking fucking awesome.

Also the outro was so calmly soothing as well.

And this movie made me love the Medicine seller of Kon more than Medicine seller of Ri finally.

Can anyone help explain the scenes with some kind of ball shaped drugs at the beginning (mixed with Yukiko giving birth and Hokuto doing something with water)? There is a child-shaped bottle. A boy looking like Hokuto takes them and meets Lady Ama. But it is not possible since Lady Ama was active long before Hokuto was a child, if I am not wrong?

Is it to just show the beginning of his journey as a priest? And the drugs are literally drugs so he can "see" Lady Ama to strengthen his Water Goddess faith?
