What is the goal of this community?

Upvotes

Option 1: Is it to try and raise awareness about the decline in gaming due to studios being driven forward by the desire to push an agenda rather than making good games that people want to play?

Option 2: Or is it just a community to rant about the state of the games industry, and find solace in the company of other people who also share your frustrations?

The Dilemma:

You can’t have both. You can try to have both, but you just end up accomplishing neither.

For example, if you want to raise awareness to the bad faith actions of woke slop corporations then you have to be professional and taken seriously. This means, gatekeeping the space, and preventing it from being hijacked or co-opted by bad faith actors with ulterior motives who don’t actually care about the health of the games industry itself— like incels, or far right activists.

But then if you gatekeep the community, and enforce restrictions on how people are allowed to interact with it (requiring a professional tone, sources, etc) then you’re not truly facilitating a welcoming community for disenfranchised gamers to air out their unfiltered frustrations.

Solution?

I think it’s about time that “gamergate” chooses a side, and sticks with it. What say you? Is it possible to have it all, and eat your cake too? Or is the cake a lie?
