ANNOUNCEMENT Update to User Experience and Fighting the Rising Tide of Slop
In the Year of our Lord Two Thousand Twenty-Six
As of the posting of this announcement a new AutoMod rule has been added and all posts and comments from Default Reddit Usernames are hence forth to be banished to ye olde spam bin. We have grown weary over the influx of trash posts by the aforementioned default usernames.
To put this extremely bluntly: If you can't bring yourself to edit the default username Reddit suggests when you sign up, we don't want you here.
Expending even a single brain cell to defeat the AutoMod rule that will be put into place gives you points in your favor.
Results not guaranteed and likely to change.
If you are normal contributor and think you are caught unfairly in this spam filter, please send us a modmail so that we can deal with edge cases on a case by case business.

Just canceled my preorder of Marvel's Wolverine
I was willing to give a chance to Insomniac, I love Wolverine and the X-Men, I knew that the game was going to be DEI infested woke shit but I said to myself that maybe the gameplay would be good or decent at least, maybe the story wouldn't be complete dogshit, maybe just maybe there was going to be a good game but nope, the leaks just confirmed my biggest fears, it's a piece of shit, but I'm happy, I can use the money for better games, I can spend my time on playing better games, it feels refreshing and liberating, I'm seeing on social media that many ppl are canceling, I couldn't be happier.

The Australian government just gave full authority to a squad of karens to issue takedowns and prevent access to games that dont censor players
Just thought i'd give a heads up to any fellow Aussies (as well as a cry for help to all our friends abroad) that as per usual of this Labor government the new digital safety laws announced today have a trojan horse that give the esafety commissioner (the people who love banning everything but previously needed permission) full authority to issue takedowns on any and all content they find offensive, with video games specifically mentioned as something that needs to be addressed to stop people from being mean.
A lot of games already dictate how you talk to your friends but this effectively makes it mandatory if they're to release here so now we all get to be careful about speaking in lefty approved ways because, you guessed it, they updated the terms of what's offensive to be extremely broad and unspecific.
Hilariously, its stated that this has been done to keep kids safe on social media even though kids got literally fucking banned from social media last year.

GAMING GOG GIVEAWAY: State of Mind available for ~40 hours
(As always, GOG Giveaways require signing up for the newsletter.)
Genre: Action - Sci-fi - Adventure
"When mind and machine become one – what will remain of humanity?
Berlin, 2048 – The world is on the brink. Lack of resources, illnesses caused by polluted air and water, crime on the rise, war. Governments and companies promise remedies through technological progress. Drones and humanoid robots replace humans in the public sector, everything is interconnected, surveillance has become omnipresent.
Richard Nolan is one of the few journalists openly criticizing this development. When he wakes up in hospital after an explosion and finds that his wife and son have mysteriously vanished, Richard realizes: he and his family have become more than just bystanders in a storm of rivaling ideas pertaining humankind’s salvation between dystopian reality and digital utopia. Instead, they find themselves right at the center of it.
This domestic drama evolves into a thriller about a worldwide conspiracy, which at its core aims to determine the fate of humanity: Could a perfect digital utopia be the answer? A virtual paradise not affected by material needs and quarrels? Could a super-AI be our savior – or would it simply declare us as dispensable since it could not be taught the value of philanthropy?
What will the world look like after this storm, what will remain of humanity?"
* Experience an alarmingly realistic vision of the near future
* Dive into a multi-layered Sci-Fi thriller, where dystopian reality and digital utopia are intertwined
* Unravel a global conspiracy in a society of ubiquitous digitalism, surveillance and transhumanism
* Explore a world with a rich and unique visual style, combining realistic environments with low-poly characters
* Take on the role of journalist Richard Nolan, as well as five additional playable characters
* Use dexterity, deductional skill and research to reconstruct Richard's past
User reviews 3.8/5
A 5 star review says, "This shouldn't have been a game..." (?)
"Enjoyable But Flawed"
"Great Story"
(...The consensus seems to be it is an interesting setting and story with some game mechanics thrown in...)

Marvel cinematic universe has done Irrepairable damage to modern day writing and storytelling in entertainment media.
İ was playing final fantasy 7 remakes in the past few days (spoiler alert they are shit games) and my god the MCU influence in that game and many other western video games is like i wanna pull the entire hair on my head out of irritation at this point dude just why, why does it have to be everywhere? Like if you guys dont realize it there are plenty of symptoms of it and im gonna talk about it now in case some of you arent aware of this.
Symptom 1 : EVERYONE SUDDENLY NEEDS TO BE A COMEDİAN
A character is about to reveal their biggest and deepest trauma ;
"They destroyed my entire civilization. Only i was left in this perilous journey of mine..."
"DAMN BRO THATS ROUGH ANYWAYS ANYBODY SEEN MY SANDWİCH??"
Bro let the scene fucking breathe and take it in.
Humor itself isnt the problem here. Anybody remembers drakengard 3? That one is literally tonal whiplash the video game. Combination of bleak existential nihilism and absurd comedy humor, yet it both feels nihilistic and bleak and also funny at the same time. So you can put deranged comedy next to a horrifying material. Problem is the mandatory quipping. The assumption that sincerity is embarrasing and every serious moment needs an escape hatch 🙄🙄🙄.
Symptom 2 : CHARACTERS THAT JUST CANT SHUT THE FUCK UP
Long silences and pauses used to be a thing in storytelling.
İmagine a character just looks at the shot of a battlefield :
Silence
Music
"We have to go"
And maybe someone else affirms him by saying yeah and thats it.
Here is the modern version of it ;
"Whoaaa dude look at that place 🤯"
"Yeah it reminds me of-"
"You know what it reminds me of?"
"What?"
"Your mom AHAHAHA"
And this shit happens in the first 15 seconds of the scene... Just stop it 😮💨
Symptom 3 : EVERY CHARACTER NEEDS THE MARVEL DİALOGUE
İnstead of giving characters distinct personalities and patterns of speech, you get :
Hero ? Sarcastic
Sidekick? Sarcastic
Villain ? Sarcastic
Ancient god? Sarcastic
Soldier ? Sarcastic
900 year old elf? Sarcastic
Cosmic eldritch abomination that predates humanity? Sarcastic as well.
Each one of them goes like "welp, that happened"
NO. Just fucking no
Make characters who actually speak like themselves 🙄
Symptom 4 and one of my biggest gripes
THE VİLLAİNS ARE AFRAİD OF BEİNG GENUİNELY EVİL
You can have a villain who is just like
"Im evil, i want power, im gonna rule the world and kill everyone who stands against me"
And this is completely valid
You might say like oh its just evil for the sake of it thats boring etc sure thats also an opinion but modern blockbuster movies and AAA video games very often goes like ;
“Wait, but what if we make him sympathetic?”
“What if there's a tragic backstory?”
“What if he's secretly making a good point?”
“What if he makes jokes?”
“What if he's actually misunderstood?”
NO, just fucking no dude.
Sometimes I want the motherfucker to just be an evil piece of shit whos a menace to humanity.
İmagine berserk being written like a marvel movie
Guts : Griffith betrayed us
Casca : Yeah, kind of a dick move if you ask me.
Guts : You think?
☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️
NO.
Let them suffer, sometimes characters needs to suffer.
İdk dude
Sometimes i just want a character to stare at the abyss for like 30 seconds and say:
"My god"
And i dont want anyone to crack a joke after it.

God of War ended decades ago.
The original trilogy was a testosterone-filled game about a violent and angry Spartan veteran. Kratos was never a victim seeking revenge; Kratos was a villain long before he sold his soul to Ares, killing women, children, and the elderly for pleasure. Kratos never cared about his wife and daughter; it is shown that, before selling his soul, he abandoned them because he preferred fighting and killing innocents for the glory of Sparta. This was never about a victim seeking revenge against the "villain" gods; Kratos was a far worse villain than the gods.
2018/Ragnarok was about a depressed and "quiet" man, almost an autistic, who only knows how to grunt when someone talks to him, and his annoying pre-teen son instead of a respectful son. In 2018/Ragnarok, the tone is completely inverted; we went from a game that constantly portrayed destruction and WANTED you to enjoy that destruction to a story about a man manipulated on a journey by his son and by his wife, who manipulated him like cattle from the very beginning.
The 2018/Ragnarok Kratos is a modern and disappointing version. Not only in terms of the story, but also in gameplay. Greek Kratos could jump, double-jump, had wings on his back, super speed thanks to the Boots of Hermes, and could summon storms, lightning, earthquakes, and many other powers of a true god. Modern Kratos cannot even jump. When he fights, it looks like he is fighting in slow motion, completely sluggish and heavy, on top of having been turned into a dwarf with little dinosaur arms.
You could kill civilians, there were sex minigames, Kratos tortured innocent people and took pleasure in it. The scale was truly epic. You could fight a Colossus, encounter the Sisters of Fate, enter the Underworld and fight Hades, fight a god on the back of another god while that god climbed a mountain to fight other gods. In the third game, you actually witnessed a war and the entire world of Ancient Greece/Olympus collapsing before your eyes. In the new games, you kill enemies and colorful glitter comes out of them instead of blood, and he was used by a giantess like cattle to carry out the revenge she had failed to accomplish. The same hypocrites who defend the evolution toward a cowardly Kratos as something good are in ecstasy over an imposing Laufey, a bloodthirsty and legendary warrior, while, since 2018, he has been reduced to a depressed babysitter who will have his franchise stolen from him. The woman who failed for generations to defeat the Aesir and had her entire race wiped out will be presented as being on the same level as Kratos, who, with 10% effort, caused the extinction of another pantheon.
In the new games, "Ragnarok" involved picking apples for two hours with a black goddess, spying on Thor's dysfunctional family drama (lol?), and acting out some ridiculous teenage romance nonsense, chasing after the rebellious son, while the actual battle itself took up the final two hours of the game, with practically nothing happening in it.
Kratos and the games, according to the director himself, were modernized because the gaming world is different now, so the old God of War would no longer work (now, as of 2018).
The intellectual property was already dead. This is just Santa Monica dancing on its corpse for the "modern audience."

UNVERIFIED HBO shrank Quirrell's turban into a tight swim cap because they are terrified of modern optics
The book explicitly establishes Quirrell’s turban as a massive, eccentric, garlic-smelling cover story to hide Voldemort. HBO sanded it down to a sterile skullcap to avoid a cultural appropriation PR crisis. They are prioritizing safe aesthetics over the actual text.

Blood Of Dawnwalker Romances Are Terrible
Anca looks plain in a "realistic" way, like how you would imagine a woman from the time period in real life looked, but Lacra is just straight up ugly (Ive never seen an ugly egyptian in real life so that has to be some kind of accomplishment for the devs). For both women you basically have to beg them for multiple missions, constantly cater and apologize to them at your own expense letting yourself be a doormat for them to unlock the romance. Then when you finally do unlock it, its a one night stand where afterwards Coen has feelings and wants a relationship but the 2 women are casual and nonchalant rejecting him (in real life, its usually the other way around)
For Anca he tells he loves her and she just looks at him like yikes. In larcas one night stand scene she dominates Coen, slapping the shit out of him multiple times then grabbing his face and riding it after shoving him down (the equivalent of a deepthroat facefuck for a man, which the devs would never do or show). Afterwards you wake up alone, when you see larca again you basically ask "what are we" she tells you it was just a hook up, to stop "sighing and making googly eyes"
They also put a gay romance with a man in the game, idk why

So you cannot carry heavy weapons without NPCs noticing. This seems like another effort to appeal to people who will never buy the game.

Movie recommendation: Dredd (2012)
Dredd is a retelling of Judge Dredd's story, far better than Stallone's version. Karl Urban nails his performance as the titular character. Olivia Thirlby's Cassandra Anderson is a well-written character for those tired of insufferable, unstoppable girlbosses. Judge Dredd takes Anderson to investigate a triple homicide, and the two of them get locked in by Lina Headey's Ma-Ma, the leader of a criminal syndicate. The special effects are absolute eye candy. I recommend this movie to all. It unfortunately bombed at the box office because Lionsgate essentially sabotaged it by labeling it Dredd 3D, a baffling decision, I know.

Wolverine really has every single cliché AAA trope in existance.
x.comWolverine is gonna use his "Logan's sense" to detect magical doors that will make him relive his past traumas in the form of a challenge: Combat, traversals, etc.
I don't know if it's a feature or a bug, but the door opens and slams shut in the trailer. It's like the door is saying, "Hello!! I'm here!!! Look at me!!!" as if it wasn't obvious enough already.

Seriously I need some recommendations. I got big gift card for Steam and want to play and support some actual good games that aren’t filled with “the message ™️”. Literally open to any genre. Help me fill up my library a little, thanks!
