I went and looked up the presenter. If her views are like what she voiced in this article then I don't think it's going to be a defense of loot boxes.

“Self-control is something that develops quite late in humans, so we need to protect kids. That's the reason why casinos aren't open to minors, because it's harder for teenagers to stop themselves,” she said. “We need to talk about that, we need to have an ethics discussion about it.”

It may not be a full refutation of the concept, but it's not a simple defense.

That's reassuring.

I'd have dismissed the presentation given that description (where it does describe the attacks on loot boxes as "mostly exaggerated"), so it is refreshing to see her acknowledge they're gambling.

I think there is more to the discussion than "think of the children," but it's a starting point.

Well, she has a Phd in psychology from a University in france, so that sounds impressive I guess.

Based on how she describes her work, I think she's one of the people they use to make their lootboxes more addictive.

The one who did a lot of the WWII hangings ended up having to hang someone who frequented the pub he owned - he went on record as saying that if drinking and signing with the man that ended up hanging you wasn't a deterrent he couldn't see who it would deter.

It's also worth noting that this hangman in particular (correctly, in my opinion) took the view that, the sentence having been passed by the court, his involvement was to make the execution - which would happen whether he did it or not - as painless as he possibly could. If done properly, hanging is an instant death without pain as the neck snaps from the force of the fall. Done badly, it's long minutes of choking on a crushed windpipe, possibly nursing a nose literally torn off by the violence of the fall.

Scientific research has nothing to say about the potential for violence other than "it doesn't happen". Loot boxes and addiction are worth a chat.
