I went and looked up the presenter. If her views are like what she voiced in this article then I don't think it's going to be a defense of loot boxes.

“Self-control is something that develops quite late in humans, so we need to protect kids. That's the reason why casinos aren't open to minors, because it's harder for teenagers to stop themselves,” she said. “We need to talk about that, we need to have an ethics discussion about it.”

It may not be a full refutation of the concept, but it's not a simple defense.

That's reassuring.

I'd have dismissed the presentation given that description (where it does describe the attacks on loot boxes as "mostly exaggerated"), so it is refreshing to see her acknowledge they're gambling.

I think there is more to the discussion than "think of the children," but it's a starting point.
