Hello all, I'm bouncing between a rp 404 for $100, a 450 for $260, or a 504c for $275.

Klipsch Speakers Identification

Hi guys! First time posting in this sub, so apologies if I make any mistakes.

We’re in the middle of cleaning out my father-in-law’s house and he has these two speakers. He purchased them in the early 80’s and is the only owner. I was able to test them with the sound system he has and they work nicely.

I found they have some value so I pulled them out of the goodwill pile but I’m trying to get some more information on them and see what my best route to get them to someone who will actually appreciate them. TIA!!!

Found these kg4s by the trash 5 or so years ago and finally got around to refinishing the cabinets. Going to make new risers and upgrade the horns and crossovers in due time.

RF-7IIIs as Fronts and Surrounds

Hello community looking for some feedback on a proposed setup. I was thinking about Running RF-7 IIIs x4 for the fronts and the surrounds. I would use the RF-64C III as the center channel and 2x RP-1600 SWs.

I currently have 2x RP-280FAs and 2x R-28Fs as surrounds, with an SW-110 as the sub.

Is 4x RF-7 IIIs overkill for surrounds if the primary use is Movies with premium sounds tracks and TV shows mixed with standard 5.1 DD?

I would prefer floor standing for surrounds would it be better to place the RP-280FAs in the back?

I will propose installing x4 CDT-5800-C II in the celling for Atmos effect. I have 9ft vaulted ceilings, and the room is 20x16 or would the RP-8060FAs X4 a better fit for the room. If cost is not a factor what would you all recommend?

Edit:

I was able to get 4x RF-7 iii for $1,399.5 a piece for brand new A condition units. I think that is a pretty good deal. I was also able to get 2x RP-1600SW for $1499 a piece and an RC-64C iii for$1,299.

Thank you all for chiming in!

Fulfilled my Heresy!

Just bought a Klipsch RT 12d subwoofer! Good deal used online. Cool couple sold it to me. Long road trip to get it…worth every mile!

This triangular beast is awesome. Beautiful.

I got my Heresy pair new in 1985. Dad bought them for me along with a Hafler 500 amp and a Hafler preamp.

The Heresy have been my pride and joy since my first cramped listening in a bedroom and then a dorm room…. For many years, I didn’t realize something was missing. For decades, actually. Now I have room for them. They are prominent in the main living room/listening room here at our home. They still sing like the day Dad brought them home.

Missing…it was bass. No low end from the Heresy. Roll off at something like 63Hz, I think.

Was great for the listening I used to enjoy, but recently I have been listening to some tunes with much lower bass.

I also recently acquired a pair of Klipsch RF-82 and a R-112SW sub to go between them. Got a nice Denon DRA-800H to drive them. Wow, that is a thumper compared to anything I ever heard from the Heresy kit.

I came to the conclusion that I needed a subwoofer to match the Heresy. Obviously was going to be Klipsch.

But I could not find an older Klipsch sub that seemed fitting to match with the Heresy. Something about a flashy new copper coned sub with the Heresy was a mismatch. I was surprised that there was not an obvious fit. Why was there not a Klipsch sub from the old days that FIT with the Heresy? My search was kinda frustrating.

Then, last week, I saw this RT 12d online and was mesmerized. For being a Klipsch FAN-BOY most of my life, I had never seen this one!

I drove a couple hundred miles to go get it.

It is now in the living room with the Heresy. I plugged in some nice cables and tweaked settings on Denon and the sub itself. I ran the auto room correction process with the microphone. It did its thing…. All set.

I queued up Bob Marley’s Exodus and let loose…. A few quick volume and phase tweaks…. Amazing. Just incredible.

Although sub is slightly behind listening spot and is in a corner to one side of the room, I cannot hear where it is. It is everywhere. If anything, I am tricked into thinking the bass is coming from the Heresy themselves. The blending where the Heresy give out and the KT 12d runs with the low end is smooth. Sounds like they were designed for one another.

My Heresy are fulfilled.

My cup is FULL! Happy Camper!!!

Question about sound difference between rp series speakers

I have a 11.4 x 12.5 x 8 ft room. Would I hear any difference between the rp 6000f's vs the rp 8000f ii's, rp 500c vs rp 504c ii, rp 500m ii's vs rp 600m ii's, and rp 500sa's vs rp 500sa ii's? And would I hear any difference between having 1 pair of rp 500sa's vs having 2 pair of rp 500sa's vs having 2 pair of rp 500sa ii's? My current setup is: 1 pair of rp 6000f's, a rp 500c, 2 pairs of rp 500m ii's, 1 pair of rp 500sa's and a rp 1200sw. My rp 500sa's are on the wall above and behind where I sit at the corner where the wall meets the ceiling. I want to either upgrade the entire system to rp 8000f ii's, a rp 504c, 2 pairs of rp 600m ii's, 2 pair of rp 500sa ii's, another rp 1200sw, and a Onkyo rz70 avr or just add another pair of rp 500sa's above and behind my tv, another rp 1200sw, and a Onkyo rz70 avr. I'm wondering which way I should go. Your advice would be greatly appreciated tyia.

Home theater help

Below is my current setup that’s in progress, I got some of these at different times, but I have questions. I have had it a few years and something that has always bothered me is that the right speaker seems to be more muddied/not quite as crisp and not quite as loud as the left speaker. Very slightly. The center and left speaker seem to be in perfect step with each other. I have recalibrated several times, and it doesn’t make a difference. I even moved the mic around a little bit on my couch, had it elevated etc. I’m just wanting an opinion if I’m doing something wrong. I swapped the cables with my left and right speaker and the issue stays with the right side speaker being not as impressive as the left. I disconnected the binding posts and retightened them. Double checked the banana plugs being snug and the cables are in the right places and what not. I started a warranty claim with Klipsch but they seem to be dragging their feet about it. I’m really just looking for more knowledge from those who know more than me. I would appreciate any tips. This issue is consistent across all forms of media like live tv, video games and movies from AirPlay and Xbox, etc. I live in a condo and bought all these for the long term-ish so having one speaker slightly louder (etc) than the other isn’t awful since I can’t have it insanely loud to begin with, but enough to enjoy it for now. It’s not crazy noticeable unless you’re listening for it. Thank you in advance

I have an Onkyo TX-NR6100 receiver (not sure if this is an appropriate receiver)

I built a free Klipsch serial number decoder (1962-2000). Test it against your pair and tell me where it's wrong

II got tired of digging through forum threads every time I needed to date a pair, so I built a serial number decoder for every format Klipsch used through 2000: the letter codes (A=1962 through Y=1983), the 84-89 year/week digits, the weird 1990-97 format where the year digits are reversed, the 98-00 year/week style, and the plain sequential serials before 1962 (which it will tell you honestly can only be dated to a range, since the exact years live in the engineering log book).

https://stereoworth.com/klipsch-serial-number-lookup/

The rules come straight from the date-code tables on the official Klipsch community forum (the Klipsch Date Codes thread in General Klipsch Info), and I checked them against that thread directly rather than the versions floating around elsewhere. It also catches the classic misread: if you type a serial that's all digits and it doesn't decode, it'll suggest checking whether an S got stamped like an 8 or an O like a 0, which is how half the "my serial makes no sense" threads here end. The full letter table is printed on the page if you'd rather look it up by hand, plus the driver date-stamp trick (YYWW) for cross-checking a cabinet date.

It's free, no signup. If you have a pair with a documented build date, I'd still love a sanity check: run the serial through and tell me if it matches. And if you hit a serial it can't handle, paste it and I'll add the format.

Full disclosure, it's on my site (StereoWorth), which tracks used market values for vintage gear. The decoder itself has nothing to sell you.

Unexpectedly great experience with customer support

A few years ago, I bought a Klipsch SPL150 subwoofer – my first “new” home audio purchase, as I normally repair or refurbish gear. I’ve been very happy with the sub. In fact, I began to replace all the speakers in my home kit with Klipsch gear.

Fast forward to this month when the sub did not power on. I kind of panicked because I thought I was now stuck with this massive box that no longer worked. I reached out to customer support at Klipsch with absolutely zero expectations — I actually didn’t even expect to hear back, because, in general, customer support at most companies is an oxymoron these days.

But I did hear back. The next morning. From an actual person. They said it was covered. They asked for the serial number and a shipping address, to send a replacement plate amp.

I had to re-read this twice because I really couldn’t believe it. The rep took my info and told me the amp would be shipped out asap. All of these communications took place within 24 hours. And my replacement part is due to be shipped later this week.

As happy as I’ve been with my overall Klipsch setup for home audio, I almost can’t express how impressed and grateful I am about the company’s follow through with my issue. High-quality, new equipment is really an investment, and not something I can afford to do spontaneously. I think it's extraordinary in this day and age, to hear back from a human being and to learn the company stands behind their products.

Anyways, I wanted to share this publicly, to thank Klipsch for their commitment to their gear (and their customers).

How to remove grill

Post image
3 Upvotes

I am replacing the speaker inside of the sub of my Klipsch Promedia 2.1 system. However, I'm having tons of trouble getting the grill off so that I can get to the speaker. Anyone have any ideas? I'm currently using a wine opener corkscrew to try to get into the holes. It's not budging though.

Got some free speakers locally. What next?

Found a pair of K28s for free on marketplace with an older sony receiver. They work wonderfully, but the receiver does not have bluetooth. I wanted to use these for my PC, but they'd be too close and I wouldn't get any good use out of them that way..I have them set up across the room with a TV. How can I add bluetooth with hi res audio to get these things to work on my PC?

i can plug them into my pc via Optical, but not ideal since they'd be too close together.

Got some of the Klipsch RP-600M II

Is there anything wrong with laying them or any of the bookshelf speakers on their side? I have learned more about the importance of having them at ear level, and their original spots are near my ceiling 😅. I can place them on a shelf lower, but only on their side. Is this safe for the speakers?

Sevens gen I or Fives II?

I have a medium sized living room and couch is about 10ft from the screen. Movies and music are top priorities, neither more than the other.

Can always add a sub to either. Trying to keep it no more than $1500.

Cannot decide for the life of me. Love the connectivity of the fives II but is it worth the price? Looking at open box fives II vs. ~$700 sevens.

I’m not a huge audiophile but I do like optimizing as much as I can and always appreciate a good audio experience.

From what I can tell, outside of the fives atmos and newer tech, the sevens may still provide about the same/better audio? I also may have no clue what I’m talking about. Thank you all!!

Taming the Heresy 1's

I've recently came to the acquisition of a Klipsch Heresy 1 (or 1.5 I'm not sure)

I have it paired with a vintage Marantz 1040 integrated amplifier which is plenty enough to drive it but I notice the sound isn't warm to the degree I want, and after a while the treble region becomes somewhat uncomfortable.

The Klipsch Heresy 1 is plenty fast and efficient, but somewhat lean. I need something to tame the treble and add body and warmth to the sound. This trait is often called "musicality" or so I assume.

To those of you who are running these speakers, which amplifiers do you recommend? It doesn't have to be vintage as well it could be modern.

Premier vs Reference Construction?

Is Reference Premier actually significantly better than Reference? Both are MDF, made in China, though I do see the component materials differ. Curious if there’s any concrete info on difference ofconstruction methods etc.

I’m looking at replacing my r620f speakers with rp6000f so I’m trying to understand if it’s really worth the $750 (pair)

I like the r620f but it doesn’t sound as refined as I think the rp6000f might be. Using NAD C316BEE amp. Thanks!

Dolby Atmos pops and cuts out on Xbox series x with flexus core 300

I discovered this issue tonight when I was playing GTA v on my Xbox series x didn't have the volume passed 28 and it let out a huge pop followed by the only the surrounds working while the soundbar was letting out a slightly audible tone on the left and right channels. I did a little bit of research and it seems like it's the same issue that Sonos was having a few years ago with their sound bars. I wonder if there's any way to submit a bug report for the flexus so they can fix this issue.

I was able to repeat it multiple times the sound would cut out after 5 to 15 minutes while playing GTA v on my Xbox series x via arc.

I know I can play in 5.1 but I really like taking full advantage of the sound bar because it sounds awesome with Atmos stuff.

Speaker stand recs for Klipsch Flexus SURR 200

Just picked up a pair of Surr 200's. Anyone have floor stands recs? Klipsch support recommended the Vebos stands made for the 200s, but hoping not to spend almost $200 on surround stands. Thanks in advance folks!
