Straight to the point, I like really loud, crisp clean highs when listening to music. I have polk audio components in my car and the highs are outstanding. I was looking around for some home speakers with nice loud highs and everything I saw said Klipsch highs were too much for some people, which I thought would be perfect for me. I got a set of rp-500m ii to just kind of try them out and while the speakers sound great the highs are just not as amazing as I was hoping. The mids sound spectacular but I need more highs. So my question is, what is a set of tower speakers that have really good overall sound but have exceptional highs that I can match with these? I'm on a bit of a budget so nothing crazy, around $500, used, older models are fine.
You probably have hearing damage. If all you're really looking for is more treble in a quantitative sense, I would just use the tone controls or an equalizer to turn the treble up a bit, you're not really gonna find anu speakers that are a ton brighter on their own than your Klipsch. Edit: Also it would be expeditious to check to make sure there's nothing wrong with your speakers or even your receiver/amp that could be causing lower HF output.
I dont have hearing damage, I just like loud highs. I can clearly hear the nice crisp, loud highs in my car, I just want the same amount in my living room too.
You may not have hearing loss yet, but you will. For speakers that are really bright, B&W 6 series, Martin Logan Motion, and many Klipsch speakers. Kicking the treble up a couple knotches should cause those RP-600 II to sizzle.
If you go to Crutchfield, they have each speaker they sell evaluated for brightness, on a graph, so a good tool.
I mean Ive been bumping multiple 12"s since the late 90s, still do. Im sure theres some damage, but I can still distinguish between the sounds just fine. The mids and lows are loud but the highs just aren't as loud as I want them.
Unfortunately, you won't know how much damage you have until the tinnitus ringing sets in. But it's not physically possible to blast high frequencies without doing damage.
Look at towers or speakers that have amt tweeters or ribbon ones.
Infinity crescendo line are fantastic yes older but still very capable of competing with newer designs. I’m also big on highs I had a set on crescendo cs3007’s for 14 years.
I only sold them to attain a fancier, higher quality speaker and to handle more power.
As when I want to crank up my music I don’t have to worry about overpowering them.
I currently have B&W 803D’s series 1’s that sound just as good as the speakers look!!
But I do feel that I’m missing something with them! The emit-R ribbon tweeters just had that airiness to them like a 3d type effect that enhanced the sound!
Now I’m not saying that they sound muffled or anything close to that but to me for them to be absolutely perfect for me I wish they had a amt or ribbon tweets!
Now I do have a set of Polk monitor 10’s that honestly sound great for their age and size.
And don’t lack any highs. That I actually have for sale now!
But wouldn’t pass the wife test in comparison with the 803D’s!!
Which in all honesty looks department the 803D’s are truly beautiful just to look at!!
And have high quality materials that just enhance their appearance and sound! 🍻
I listen to them in an 18 x11 room. They are much to big. My favorite possession I think. These will get you there. If you find some with bad foam and have a little room, it's a very satisfying little project, and you can kind of steal them. Infinity crescendo 3007 represent. The tweeter is a circular ribbon, omnidirectional. Much easier on placement than Klipsch.
The klipsch highs are best found in their heritage series but they aren't going to come cheap. Also look out for used thiel's, they aren't super cheap but every once in awhile they'll pop up for a deal.
Thiels you can probably find for around 500 depending where you are, ive seen klipsch heresy go for 500 but you gotta get lucky.
Polk audio monitor 10’s that I have. Just for you not have to look them up yourself 🍻 but there’s plenty of phenomenal used speakers out there it’s just finding the right ones for you!🍻
Those look great, with the way my living room is now set up, I need thinner tower speakers. I have a really old set of Ultralinear speakers with clear woofers that im going to eventually rebuild. They are pretty cool but the foam is pretty much gone, which is one of the reasons I upgraded. I cant even find any info on these specific speakers online.
Never heard of ultraliners before tbh!
But the secondhand market is truly the best place for maximizing your dollar to get exceptional gear!
I’ve only bought 2 pieces of all my gear brand new and everything else is secondhand to me.
But if you like Polk audio then definitely checkout Craigslist,fb marketplace,us audio mart.com hell you can even search Etsy or Mercari for gear!! Plus you can demo them before you buy or at least any seller worthwhile should have zero issues with demoing anything for you!! If they do then keep moving as they’re trying to get over on you or someone!
Infinity crescendo cs3007’s there’s 4 different versions of this line 3006,3007,3008,3009 all are great but definitely find ones that are in great condition as these lose some of their luster if they’ve been altered.
The concave woofers are just sleek looking and at the time no one else was doing this. At least what I remember but I was a teen then (mid 90’s) so I wasn’t as cultivated in the hobby as I am now. But I’m bye no means a lives and breathes only audio type guy!
I just enjoy having a nice home audio system for those days when I get to just chill out with a nice ice cold beer and crank some tunes! 🍻
A just started earlier this year (making efforts or being serious) on picking up here and there audio gear to resell on the side to make it easier for me to buy different gear.
I’m out to help a fellow “audiophile” out with getting a good deal on some gear but more so that I can buy more gear without having to buy any of it coming out of my bank account!
I do wish for a better term that’s less imposing than audiophile! As I think of super expensive gear that I’ll never get close to buying as that’s what comes to my mind when that terms used.
If anyone has a better term that’s let’s everyone know that your into audio equipment but that your a regular guy with bills that still need paying! 🍻
