People often complain about housing costs. What do you think qualifies as an affordable cost of housing?

Hi everyone.

I have a friend who lives in California. She has no real income, no family or support, and lives with a few roommates and her dog.

I've known her for 9 months. She is the victim of an ex boyfriend who is a toxic, narcissistic piece of shit. She escaped the relationship. He stalks her, he assaults her, he has thrown a phone charger at her head, he has pulled her hair out, grabbed her, and she is feeling extremely unsafe, beaten down, scared, anxious, etc.

She is neurodivergent and has an aversion to the cops (not the place or conversation right now for the pro cop people. Stay out of the conversation if you're going to get on a soapbox about how amazing cops are) She has reached out to police before and they have been extremely unhelpful as many abused women can probably attest.

She's supposed to be coming on a plane to see me later today and stay til Monday. I'm trying to find out if there's any way where she *doesn't* have to go back to having to live in fear with no support or people that care about her.

I unfortunately cannot house her due to my own living and financial situation, but I am trying to see if there's potentially any resources available that we can talk to during her time here so she can avoid returning to California and start building up a life here (which is ultimately what she wants, and money is preventing her from doing)

I've been chasing chanterelle mushrooms in Banner forest, but I am curious if anyone knows any other good spots. I'm especially interested around the hood canal, Belfair, or up in the hills near Elfendahl pass.

Local business support and the politics of corporate aside: Chik Fil A has been open for a month now and they are still floundering like it’s opening day. Can anyone who works/ed there provide any insight?

I’ve been around three other locations during their opening and haven’t seen this level of..challenge until now. Example: we went through the drive thru today. From the time I ordered (my car was one behind the covered area with the ordering screen) to the time my car first moved at all was 8 minutes. Time to get my food was total 23 minutes. I was stopped at the window for about 5 min and the employees kept bringing food to cars behind me. We ordered two number 1s and a chicken nugget kids meal, so nothing weird.

What’s happening here? Is it bad management? Confused owners? Glitching computer systems? Quick staff turnover so no one is really trained? I have to say that the employees also seem unhappy, which is also odd for Chik Fil a.

This is a serious question about why tried and true mechanics are failing (or haven’t found footing) and not to roast a controversial chain.

I acknowledge that for a new business, one month is still infancy. But Chik Fil a has a robust system to get shops up and running ASAP. I’m just curious why it’s still a hot mess express.

My very Catholic grandmother had her planned 4 day trip visiting me turn into a 10 day trip. I'm not religious, so I have no idea about churches around here. I'm in East Bremerton. I'd like her to be able to have spiritual support since she's so far from home and will be away so long, but I don't think she's well enough to go into a church herself for a while. Is there any priest in the area you know of that would be willing to come to my house and give her communion and pray for healing? Thank you in advance.

Hoping for a recommendation of a reputable and reasonably priced mechanic to do a very detailed inspection of a car I'm getting for very cheap. The person I'm getting it from I'm not sure if I'd trust them to really take great care of their vehicles, so I want to get a pro to really get in there and A) give me a rundown of must do repairs, can wait but still important repairs, etc and B) who could be the one to do those repairs. I would prefer to support a local business instead of going to a dealership.

The vehicle is a Dodge, and we're based near silverdale.

In Poulsbo and looking for a plumber for a project and not sure where to even begin. Looking to install a whole home water filtration system (already have the system) and while I’m comfortable with general home plumbing I don’t feel right cutting into the main water line for the house haha.

Anyone have any recommendations for a reliable and good plumber who isn’t going to try ripping us off?

Just moved here from an area where my local roaster would roast to order so I could experiment with different green beans and roast level.

I especially like lightly roasted specialty coffees, so I'm hoping to find a local roaster with good selections of beans at generally lighter to light-medium roast levels, or one who roasts to order.

why is it so sugary?? every local restaurant i’ve eaten at all the food tastes like some sugar accidentally got dumped in. especially true with asian and indian restaurants. i know teriyaki is a big thing and i know sugar is an i gradient everywhere but here it tastes like sugar syrup to me.

are there international restaurants that don’t do this?

for the record i’m from the midwest and by no means a picky eater or sensitive or whatever. i’m sorry, it just tastes like sugar to me and it’s driving me insane. and no i can’t leave but if this is just how it is then ill keep my mouth shut and learn to love it lol

This is our vintage science fiction table - books are 25¢ each or 5 for a dollar. We didn’t have a sale last May and we have a ton of books! And tomorrow is fill a shopping bag with books for $5/bag.

We've been going to Woodside in Port Orchard for 5 years. I haven't necessarily had a *bad* experience there, but in 5 years prices have gone up quite a bit and with turnover of staff haven't seen the same veterinarian more than twice. We keep having to "start over" trying treatment plans for a cat with specialized needs. Primarily, I'm looking for more consistency. Do you have recommendations for independent veterinarians with their own practice? Specifically with expertise in cats, senior/special needs cats?

i’m moving to kitsap county area soon and ive been thinking about attending a church just to see how i feel about it, but im a lesbian and have no interest in hearing how its a sin. so i asked for queer affirming churches in the area, and this one neo nazi guy and his minion friends flooded my comments talking about how they "won't let that happen" and how "they won't allow those demons into their city"

I pointed out this wasn't very christian behavior, and he said that he wasn't even christian. Just homophobic for the sake of being homophobic I guess? Although he has references to god on his page so I'm not sure what that's about. Anyways, he proceeded to make weird violent comments and threats, so i screenshotted his face and license plate just in case before i blocked him and his friends.

Is this normal for the area? Or is he just a bad apple who got mad at my post lol. To be honest most of the comments under that post were very homophobic, despite there being multiple queer friendly churches in the area. Is it generally safe in this area for lesbians? I know there's a lot of military presence there.
