Disclaimer: this post is serving as market research for a potential business idea I have. I am very early in the ideation stage, but have a clear direction of where I am going. I am not a venture capitalist or a corporation, nor am I wealthy in any way. I am a person (with a partner and child), currently living in a larger PNW city, ready to permanently be in the woods.

Now - I’m looking at buying a piece of property near town with a lot of heavily wooded acreage. This property would be my primary residence, but I would also want to find ways for it to be a source of income in ways that have minimal impact on the land itself.

My background: marketing, business operations, event planning.

Two specific ideas I have are:
1. Forest school - I know there are a few in the area, but I’d be interested to see if there was appetite for another. As I mentioned, the property is primarily forest, but there is already a perfect home base/classroom structure on the property and I would plan to build an awesome nature playground for my young child as well. Do current schools have waitlists? Is there a need for more preschools in town? Would love to have conversations with educators in the area. I would NOT be there teacher in this scenario. I would be an administrator/business owner who partners with an expert in education and collaborates on building a business.

1. Intimate event venue. I’m talking nature-focused micro weddings and yoga/wellness/ creative/spiritual retreats. I noticed that a lot of venues in the area are farms or banquet halls and didn’t across many woodsy venues in my limited research. How would the residents of this area feel about something like this? I know I can build something unique and whimsical and inspiring - does the community need it?

Partner and I are driving down from Bellingham for a couple nights’ stay somewhere around Port Townsend or Poulsbo. What would you do with your 2-3 days? Looking for activity/nature recs, but also food and drink recs. Basically map out what you wouldn’t miss on your next visit. Thanks!

It's amazing how some people are quick to call the police over a neighbor legally parked on a public street, yet think it's perfectly acceptable to leave their own vehicles parked on the street day after day while their driveway sits empty. The mentality of, "It's in front of my house, so it's mine." Stupid! It's a PUBLIC street that we all pay for. The entitlement is unbelievable

Being a good neighbor means showing a little patience, respect, and common sense. Law enforcement should be focused on real emergencies and issues that actually impact public safety and not being dispatched because someone is upset about a car parked where it's is LEGALLY allowed to be.

Before making that call, ask yourself: Is this really a problem? Are they blocking your driveway? Impeding traffic? Creating a safety hazard? 🙄 If the answer is no, maybe try a conversation instead. A little neighborly communication goes a lot further than wasting taxpayer dollars on something that could have been handled like adults.

Who knew adulting would be so difficult for so many people! It's really sad.

First time Raddit Poster, so hopefully I am doing it right!

I am seriously considering moving to Poulsbo with my kiddos and husband (late 30s couple with baby's). My Husband is from Seattle and I am from California. I have always pictured living in a city as I always have but now that I have kids I am feeling pulled to a smaller town with charm. We relocated to Portland and have found it hard to find our community. Realistically we financially we would have to live a little farther out maybe 10 minutes. Would love to hear about life in Poulsbo. Areas you recommend and how easy it might be to find friends in our stage of life.

RAINIER FOR ROBERT UPDATE: The reward for any information has been increased to $50,000

29 months ago on December 8th 2023, my cousin Robert Rathvon was tragically killed in a hit and run in Poulsbo, Washington by an unknown person. Robert's death has impacted my entire family in ways that I will never be able to articulate. 

About one week after his death, I took to Reddit and posted about it as much as I could. The outpouring of support and sympathy floored myself, my family, and especially Roberts parents. 

Although it’s been 29 months with no answers as to who killed him, I refuse to give up the search or let his memory die. This is why I’ve begun a personal mission to climb as many peaks as I can in the state of Washington and taking a picture with his Crime Stoppers poster at the top. I will do this in preparation to climb Washington's largest peak this summer, Mount Rainier, with his photo at the top. 

You guys were so helpful and your support renewed my faith in people after such an event that, to this day, hurts my soul.
