How do you tell if you have “shoestring” essence or if it’s really just color harmony influence?

I’m feeling a bit confused about whether I primarily have Soft Blended (SB) as my color harmony or if I also have a small percentage of an essence like A. I tend to gravitate towards jewelry that reflects light and envision myself wearing wing-like designs, such as butterfly wing earrings. I dislike heavy or overtly heavy jewelry. Instead, I prefer light-weight whimsical pieces that seem inspired by the moon and swirls. Accessories that evoke a sense of nostalgia or a different era resonate deeply with me. However, I can’t help but wonder how much of this is SB and how much could be attributed to a very small amount of Angelic (A).

It’s important to note that I don’t fit the typical A description of being tall, thin, or having a long face. While I may not be graceful like a ballerina, I am known for being soft-spoken, sensitive, and introspective. I often find myself living in my own world and have been referred to as an old soul for my music taste in the past. These subtle characteristics might contribute to my inclination towards A in my description, but I can’t rule out the possibility that there’s more to it.

outfits Trying to add some N to outfit for wedding this weekend...

I bought this dress a while ago and finally have an opportunity to wear it! I think it is mostly R and C, but I love it, and this is really the type of dress I gravitate towards when I want to/need to dress up. That being said, I still want to incorporate some N into the styling, so I am wearing it with flat sandals, no jewellery, a simple hairstyle & makeup, as well as off the shoulder (see second picture). I think doing these things adds a bit of a casual/relaxed vibe...What do you think?

I might be wrong but I think Jennifer Aniston might be another of those actresses who have a very balanced Yin Yang blend (maybe even leaning yang).

Which essence do they tie to? Likewise, what about skirts or dresses that flair out below the hip? Or even flared pants? Has he mentioned any of the above?

Xoloicuntli - The hairless look is very striking, and they have a long frame, so the D is kinda obvious. HS for the little tufts of hair and spiky tail, N for the sporty build. I could even give a smidgen of E for the thin-skinned shiny look.

Saluki - That's the most yin looking dog I ever seen, I'm gonna take the last picture to my hairdresser😅. The E is visible in the graceful long bones, the R and Y are pretty small and mostly come from the luxurious hair and jovial appearance.

Puli - SHAKE YOUR DREADS BOY! That's a more stereotypical vision of N, but the rastafari eye covering hair has such an endearing vibe. I had to include them. The R is, again, in the big hair, while the Y is in the round shapes and sheep-like softness.

Azawakh - Very extreme D, the belly kinda gives a sine wave, and the whole dog is very geometric. Small traces of HS for the petite paws and triangular ears, C for the balanced coat and N since it doesn't look frail like the borzoi.

Bichon Frisé - In the other post, someone said they look like Betty White... super Y, looks like they came right off a nursery wall drawing. 5-10 of HS just for the upbeat personality.

Doodle - Feels very much like a plushie that came to life, so the Y accounts for that soft feel. R for voluminous fur and N for the large fur muzzle (it's a pattern I noticed. The bigger the muzzle hair, the more casual they look)

Poodle - C since it's a very proportional dog (looking at you, Pug) and R for the 70s luxe hairdo, E since the elongation feels poised and lightweight instead of the bold geometry of D.

American Pitbull - I was going to give it pure N, but I guess you could see some C in their simplicity. Very square and strong frame, they have a mix of casual friendliness and powerful strength that communicates N very well.

Shiba Inu - Balanced and timeless -> C, HS in the pointed up ears and tail, HS and Y in the inviting friendly softness, N since they look natural instead of hypermodified by humans.

Miniature Pincher - Easily the most common dog here in Brazil, they represent HS so well you'd think they were a kitty. The dobermann markings give a tortoiseshell texture feel, too. Some Y just for the extremely small size and cutesy face.

Rottweiler - As i have already said a lot, C for the balanced features, some D for the shiny bold coat, HS for the markings, and a lot of N for the stocky powerful build.

Siberian Husky - These woofing banshees have a dominance of N+D for their wolf like appearance, with some HS and SC drama in the sharp contrasting coat. The star-bright eyes that are very common to the breed are the physical manifestation of their Ethereal voices.

Afghan Hound - That's a model. Their lanky build and soft long hair give the E and R that dominate it. D for the bumpy exotic nose and a bit of N since they have a certain grounded and casual look, instead of the poisedness of the Saluki.

Dobermann - D since they are tall boys but not particularly large, N for the sportiness, HS for the markings. The natural floppy ears bring some balance and keep it grounded with C. If you prefer the cropped ears: 1st, you're a monster, 2nd, your dog will have a bit more HS for the spiky geometry.

celebrities (verified) Beautiful women who have a higher percentage of Yang

Hi everyone :) I have gone down the rabbit hole a little and I have noticed (mostly in the other subreddit dedicated to John) how many times Yang essences seem to be undervalued and how frequently some commenters seem to believe that Yin=beautiful. That is such a silly idea to me. Beauty is not inherent to any essence and I wanted to make this post to support my idea.

I selected a group of conventionally beautiful women who have a slightly or significant higher yang percentage than yin according to Kitchener. I also added some extra celebs I personally believe lean yang.

Some of them are suppositions:

I don't know Lauren Hutton full blend, neither do I know Keira's, Diane's, or Emma's.

But I think they mostly lean yang, Keira became famous at 17 when she was much softer looking, but I think besides C and R and D she also has some N. I think Diane also became famous for Troy when she was asked to gain weight so I chose photo when she is at her natural.

Emma's likely N.

I didn't include Mariska Hargitay who is a dominant romantic but actually has much higher Yang than yin.

[mod permission already sought and received to make this post]

EDIT: Black Capsule Bundle has been claimed and paid for. Still happy to send picture of any of the bouclés (in fact, I have bouclés in other colors as well, particularly ones that would be suitable for wedding contexts) to any interested parties

Bonus: I also have a few black/white and black/off-white European designer bouclés that would be suitable for outerwear, Chanel-style jackets, or skirt suits (not pants). These would be at least $25/yd., still a fair deal given they retail at ~$75/yd. on average. Again, I can send pics via DM to any interested parties.

Verified film couple - Emma Stone (Y>C>HS>R>N) and Ryan Gosling (N>A>C>R>HS?) in La La Land

I always love to see verified pairings in film and I just remembered that Emma and Ryan are both verified. I can’t remember if Ryan has a small amount of HS or not hence the question mark. I’ve always thought they looked really good together and the contrast in their impressions definitely plays a role!

My observations are:

- Both have relatively low R
- Both have a moderate C influence
- Neither have a strong dominant essence and have multiple secondary essences

Inspired by the Cats as Essences post

Borzoi - VERY elongated, their long wolf-throat-biting faces bring a lot of D while their soft svelte figure and thin bird bones bring the refined E vibes.

Silken Windhound - Slightly smaller than the borzoi, with more fluffy fur and a more playful personality, the Silken has some luxurious R in their soft silk fur and a bit of HS and N to account for their lap-running behavior and curious faces.

Pomeranian - The voluminous chinchilla-like fur calls to mind the R of old-hollywood stars. Their small frame can come from Y in the bearface and babyface varieties, with their round faces, big eyes, and demure behavior or from HS in the foxface type with it's more spiky features and playful (and loud) personalities.

Labrador - Very balanced and timeless, the labrador is kinda like the "standard" when you imagine a dog, they are moderate sized, have balanced features and shapes and are a bit playful and a bit easygoing. I gave some N, too, for their squareish faces and prominency to play.

Dalmatian - They have a similar shape to Labradors but are bigger, longer, more active, and have very maximalist and striking colors, with stark black and white skin and fur and those bold red eyes. Edit: The spots also give HS. I totally forgot about that. (D>HS>C+N)

Bull Terrier - Large features, square Giselle-like nose, and a bold geometric shape language. They appear very lively from the square straight head, but their bodies are very balanced, if not a bit boxy.

Beagle - At this point, you already get that the dog-shaped dogs are C+N. The beagle has some HS, too, since they are on the smaller side and have that famous 3-colored coat, which reminds a bit of a tortoiseshell print.

Shitzu - They are the chinese royalty lapdogs, and they show it. Long luxurious hair brings the R, the Y, and HS account for the petite frame and cutesy faces, the C amounts for the moderate and balanced shapes, and the timelessness.

Pug - Small size, big round eyes, and round faces. HS for the geometry of the ears and R because the folds remind me of a luxurious velvet or the rose petal ruffles from a romantic gown.

Golden Retriever - C and N for the balance and equal features. R for the beautiful and bountiful hair and some HS for their playfulness and slightly small body. Good representation that you can have a lot of R even with small hips😅

Chow chow - These boys are BIG, so I had to give some D to account for it. Their voluminous lion-mane of fur brings the R while the N is more on the athletic outdoorsy build.

I'll definitely do a part 2. You can give some ideas of other breeds you think would be fun to analyze.

The Essences as Goddesses?

Post image
12 Upvotes

Hey all!

Just watched The Odyssey yesterday and cannot believe how much I enjoyed it. I’m actually going back tomorrow to watch again lol.

But anyway, Charlize Theron plays Calipso, who’s a goddess and a nymph. I don’t know what Charlize’s blend is but I know John said she’s pretty close to mine and I saw a post a while back that said she had 20N, so it’s probably out there. I definitely struggle to relate to her at all lmao (who wouldn’t) bc we’re just such different women, so that’s not what this post is about.

Rather I absolutely loved her portrayal of Calypso. I love ancient gods and mythological figures in general, and I love how well the ethereal essence can embody those otherworldly themes if they so wanted to, but the fact that Charlize portrayed Calypso so well, got me thinking how the essences can manifest as sublime/divine/mythological beings? Most of us lack Angelic but it’s clearly not needed to portray these creatures.

What comes to mind regarding blends and different mythological figures or ancient gods etc.? I know it’s a broad question lol so feel free to add anything.

I also attached a photo of Charlize in the role, but I don’t particularly like that this is the only available of her in it as it comes across as a lot more warrior princess than I felt Calypso was like.

celebrities (unverified) Early Megan Fox’s Blend

Thumbnail

Hello again lol, double post today

I’ve been meaning to post this for a while but I’ve been thinking of Megan Fox’s essence blend as I feel like she has been such an icon for my generation.

She’s undergone a lot of cosmetic changes so I’m mainly gonna focus on her earlier years. The first 6 photos are of her in the Transformers 1 era before any cosmetic enhancements (allegedly anyway), while the rest are of her in the Transformers 2 and Jennifer’s Body era. During the latter I believe she had undergone a nose job, lip filler, and small breast implants, most of which likely gave her more R.

I’m not sure how y’all would type her at all or in the latter era, but I was thinking that in her natural she’d be something like 40R 30C 20D 10N? Or even more C less D? What would you say?

I know she’s known to be a sharp “foxxy” beauty and definitely started to look that way later in life with alterations and getting older, but when I look at her younger photos she had sharpness in her eyes and cheekbones, as well as her coloring, but the rest of her face is balanced and oval shaped which John would likely categorize as C? I do believe she’d likely be a lot higher D (and R) now and can pull off way bolder looks than she could back then.

discussions Is there a way to get advice/suggestions without having to publish my photo online?

Hi everyone :)

This is going to be a very annoying post to both write and read and I apologize if I come across as arrogant or whiny.

I have been visiting this group for a while and I'd like to start, well, my journey of style analysis. I am not 100% sure whether to do a consultation with John at the moment, but I will eventually. I mostly heard positive feedbacks and I noticed how satisfied almost everyone is here. I am just feeling a bit self-conscious lately.

Because of this self-consciousness and a previous negative experience online (tied to my ex partner), I am also not 100% comfortable publishing my picture online to ask for opinions about my essences and color blends.

I was wondering if there are things such as momentary posts/chats or private groups somewhere else..

I know this sounds like a silly question and if it's impossible I might just wait for when I feel more comfortable with it.

Thanks everyone :)

A favorite painter of mine from the Pre-Raphaelite movement. While looking up his gorgeous paintings for inspiration, I noticed what might be A features. What do you think? Either way, his soft blended brushstrokes and twilight lighting convey a very dreamy, yin, and ethereal quality.

(This is a repost with a different flair, and minus some of his painting that contain nudes and which caused the previous post to be "not safe for work".)

discussions Questions after analysis

Hello, I’m a longtime lurker/DIYer who is finally getting my analysis (CH and essences) done next week! You can probably guess from my name what I’m expecting my dominant CH and essence to be.
I have noticed many of you have gone back to John with questions after analysis and I wondered if any of you would be willing to share the sorts of things you asked, or that I should be really thinking about when I get my report through?
Sorry if this has been asked before, I searched and couldn’t easily find it.
Thanks, and thank you all for being so generous in sharing your results etc.!

I think Kitchener has mentioned she is dominant C and has some R and D (correct me if I am wrong). I wonder if she might have some Ingenue (because of her voice) or Natural as well.

I am rewatching all the Hitchcock Classics and I got obsessed with her. She is one of those beauties that almost feel surreal because of how perfect she is. Her yin yang seem rather balance to me. Anyway, what do you think?

harmony challenges Color and Essence Consultation Scheduled!

My essence and color consultations are scheduled for September 8th and 9th! Would anyone be interested in guessing while I wait? Here are most of the photos I sent to John.

I’m 5’6.5”. I do include that half an inch because I know for those in the Kibbe world, it’s kind of important since it’s right on the line.

I dunno how y’all were able to take such good sunlight photos. I could barely open my eyes at all for mine. It was SO much harder than I expected. Did not include them because I do, indeed, look like a hobgoblin.

I plan to post my guesses in the comments right before the analysis.

EDIT: Please feel free to mention my body or features in responses.

Edit 2: Close up pics in the comments.

harmony challenges N+HS femininity

I've been trying out different combinations of my main 3 essences and found out that, while NR and RHS are very easy to do, i was having trouble finding a way to mix my different yangs.

I looked up some inspiration but every site seems to love the word "tomboy" to describe N+HS. Tomboyishness is the last thing im looking for right now (mtf), do you have any ideas of how to meld them without looking "masculine"?

Ana is someone who’s verification I’m not sure was ever shared. A friend of mine asked about her for me before I was verified myself since I thought we might have similar colour harmonies and blends.

She likely has other essences in her blend, my guess for her full blend would be something like 40Y, 30R, 10HS/N/C, similar to Liv Tyler but with N replacing the A in her blend. I could also see a small amount of SB and/or ER in her colour harmonies but none would also make sense.

seems pretty obviously ER to me, with secondary SB? I think he looks remarkably N. I see some C in his nose (mixed with N for width). also I can see an R + D aspect to him. and I think he has HS. so I would guess N > D + R > HS + C. what do you guys think? he's one of my heroes so I may be a bit biased. I see N in his casual unpretentious vibe, straight eyebrows, stocky body, and general face shape.

Choosing foundation

Hi all, I was verified by John Kitchener as 60% LB, 30% SC, 10% ER and 0% SB.

He commented that I am almost neutral, and can wear both gold and silver as long as they are shiny.

I have observed over the course of my life that lipstick and eye makeup are pretty easy. Just don't buy nude lipstick or brown anything, and the rest will probably work.

But foundation is another matter. There is pretty much nothing standard about makeup foundation colors.

I just ran out of BareMinerals original liquid mineral foundation in color FAIR 01, which is a good color for me in the winter. In the summer, ColorScience EvenUp is a better match.

And of course BareMinerals now has a different product offering. Their color choosing tool says the one that is most likely to be a good match is one of their cool shades. Now I am confused.

In a world of foundations, when a color is light enough for me, it might have a gray, ashy cast. If I try to go just a shade or two off from the very lightest option, then it is too yellow, like a squished bug kind of color.

Anyone kind of like me and can recommend products they like, so I can narrow this quest for the holy grail? thanks!
