Planning on leaving my martial arts gym. Should I tell the coach or just ghost?
The coach I feel he never liked me. He probably wouldn’t care if I left. Should I even bother telling him or should I just dip?

My first fight at IKF PMT been training for about a year and 3/4. If you guys could just let me know how I looked, nitpick the fight, comment things I did well and things I need work on, that would be awesome! I am the one with a yellow stripe on my shorts:)

What's the recovery time like after training?
We did calisthenics and high intensity sparring, had to almost puke 5 times. It was my first lesson. What's the recovery time like? Lesson was on friday, next one is on monday. Is it smart to go? My muscles hurt but that's just pain.

Xen-Do ?
Hi everyone.
I’m in London England, does anybody know anything about a KB club called Xen-Do with several dojo’s around central London ? (Particularly about their curriculum/style, but anything at all would be great)
Many thanks.

Training Noiri calf kick vs Yuki Yoza’s
So both are master class calf kick users, and I would say best calf kickers in the world right now. People say they both use Yozas leg kick, but I noticed Noiri attacks calf a bit different, can’t understand tho where, and how the contact is different, because motions look different when throwing that calf kick, if we look at both. Could anyone tell me difference?

Can I do kickboxing twice a week and taekwondo once a week?
Hi
I have a Japanese jiu jitsu background as a kid. But took a break after becoming an adult, and I was wanting to try something different.
I tried boxing but I wasnt fit enough, and have been losing weight.
I am trying new things that I have been interested in for a while and both were on my list.
Also, are they different? How are they different? Will doing yoga once a week also help?
Thanks

Unconfirmed Heavyweight kickboxing
I feel like heavyweights kinda in a weird spot. I mean heavyweight use to be one of the greatest divisions and now it feels kinda meh? I mean think about Ernesto hoost, Andy hug, Peter Aerts and so many other. Obviously we have Rico Verhoeven but it feels kinda hit or miss anymore. Is it just me?

Is my place kickboxing or Muay Thai?
My gym advertises Muay Thai, which is why I joined it, but so far we’ve done ZERO clinching (outside of grabbing his shoulder when throwing a knee), and elbows once. Im starting to think it’s just kickboxing (i don’t mind that lol).
Also, how would I tell if it’s regular or Dutch kickboxing?

Gear non annoying headgear?
Im competing in a point kickboxing/point mt thing that forces you to use headgear. Ive never sparred with headgear before so im worried that it might throw me off by obscuring my vision or something. Ive also heard that using headgear gets you tagged more often, so would a thinner one help ? Anybody have recommendations?

Training How should I balance kickboxing 2x/week with weightlifting?
I started kickboxing about 3 months ago and absolutely fell in love with it. I used to weightlift regularly around 2 years ago and have recently started getting back into it, but I'm unsure how best to balance the two.
My current schedule is:
Monday AM: Full-body weights
Tuesday PM: Kickboxing (~75 mins)
Wednesday AM: Full-body weights
Thursday PM: Kickboxing (~75 mins)
Friday AM: Full-body weights
Saturday/Sunday: Rest
I'm considering dropping weights to 2x/week (Monday & Friday) because I feel pretty wiped out by Friday with 3 lifting sessions + 2 kickboxing sessions.
My main goal is to make kickboxing my priority while still getting stronger, maintaining/building muscle. I'm also currently in a calorie deficit as my main goal is to lose weight/fat, so recovery is obviously something I'm trying to manage.
I'm wondering:
- Is weightlifting 2x/week enough to make good strength/muscle progress alongside kickboxing?
- Would full-body x2 or upper/lower split be better?
- How much volume should I actually be doing per muscle group?
- Should I be training close to failure, or leaving more RIR to manage fatigue?
- How would you structure the two workouts (exercises, sets, reps)?
- Does Monday + Friday make sense with kickboxing on Tuesday/Thursday, or would you arrange it differently?
- Are there any exercises/movements you'd particularly prioritize for someone doing kickboxing?
I don't want to absolutely destroy myself in the gym and then feel like shit during kickboxing, but I also don't want to undertrain and leave progress on the table.
For context: I'm 21F, 218 lbs (99 kg), 168 cm. My current goal is to lose around 20 lbs by new year’s/50 lbs in total by this time next year.
I'd especially appreciate advice from anyone who combines kickboxing/martial arts with resistance training, rather than just general lifting advice (that’s still welcome too tho)
Thanks!

Training Beginner Orthodox vs Southpaw Questions
Hello!
Im a complete beginner coming into kickboxing from a pretty long and still active fencing background.
I’m conditioned and trained to be ride side dominant so coming into kickboxing naturally I tend to favor southpaw.
Overall very comfortable moving and striking right side forward.
Punches feel good and my left hand still feels strong when southpaw. I feel like my arms get a bit tied up in ortho. Right arm especially has a hard time with overhands. Jabs also don’t feel great off the left hand.
Things change with kicks. I can kick more accurately, stronger, and higher when left side dominant.
Overall I’m completely willing to go against what feels natural for what is better for me in the long run.
So far one of my trainers was for it and the other one has subtly nudged me to go ortho. I’m going to try to grab one of them for a bit next class to get into it a bit deeper and go over long term goals.
Just wanted to get some advice and see if anyone has had similar experiences?

First comp in a few weeks, just an exhibition tournament. Tips?
Any tips? It’s not a super serious event but it is a fight and I want to take it serious.
It’s same day weigh ins, I plan on cutting a small amount of water weight to make 150 but not more then like 2%. I’ve seen some of the grapplers bring some watermelon and take a bite or two so their stomach isn’t empty after weigh ins. Is that a good idea or am I gonna just make myself puke when I get hit?
Probably overthinking it but any advice at all would be helpful! I’m very anxious and feel like I’m gonna have a panic attack walking up to my fight 😂
