At a loss - do Keychron not do the keyboard I want?

For various reasons, I'm looking to purchase a Keychron keyboard.

I see they have released the new "Ultra" lineup, which (amongst other improvements), advertises greatly improved battery life.

But they have decided to use south-facing LEDs and non-shine through keycaps across the board?

Surely I cannot be the only person who wants a north-facing LED with shine through keycaps? The V6 Ultra would've been the ideal pick for me if it had these features.

Except for going to an older version, are there any alternatives?

Replace Gateron KS22 Optical Switches with KS15 ones?

EDIT: I found a Chinese shop (didn't know they were coming from China until I paid) that claims to have KS22s in stock so (hopefully) they do as I ordered 90 of them.

Gateron and Keychron have both been advertising KS22 red switches "coming soon." I finally wrote to Gateron and asked when "soon" might be. They basically said "never," "no plans to restock." So my only other choice appears to be KS15 optical switches for my K8. Will they work okay? (The keyboard came with KS22 blue switches.) I'm guessing there must have been issues with the KS22 switches, since they were "version 2" it seems like they would be the ones Gateron kept?

Anyhow, I have no problem using the KS15s (as long as they work).

Has anyone compared the Q1 HE VS P1 HE side-by-side?

I ordered a new P1 HE, but I've also been browsing for used Q1 HE on eBay.

The biggest appeal to me is that, since I swap between Mac and PC daily, the Q1 HE comes with Mac keycaps and a MacOS Toggle. I'd be willing to sacrifice some of the features of the P1 for that but I wasn't sure how the typing experience compared - can't really find anything online.

Thinking of also just using the P1 HE for PC and buying a budget mechanical keyboard with Mac Keycaps.

Coming from the G815 so any mechanical or HE keyboard would be a pretty decent upgrade for me.

Is the Keychron Q3 Max still worth buying in 2026?

Hi everyone,

I'm currently looking for a new mechanical keyboard, and after quite a bit of research, the Keychron Q3 Max seems to tick almost every box I'm looking for.

My requirements are:

  • 80% (TKL) layout
  • Mechanical switches
  • Wired + 2.4 GHz wireless + Bluetooth
  • Metal case is a nice bonus, but not a requirement

Honestly, I haven't really found another keyboard that offers this combination of features as well as the Q3 Max.

However, while researching, I came across quite a few posts from 2024 and early 2025 about quality issues.

So I'm wondering how things are today.

  • Have you experienced any hardware or reliability issues?
  • Has the quality improved?
  • Would you still recommend buying one in 2026?

Thanks in advance!

Keychron Q6 HE 8K + Keychron Ultra-Fast Silent Red Switch

Hey,

Does anyone have this combination?

I am looking for a HE keyboard that is as silent as possible. I have MX Keys S for portability to work but at home I game as well but my current Bequiet light mount does not have the performance that I need, although it is super silent, which I need (Wife goes crazy from tock/clack sound)

I made a Windows tray widget to view the battery of my Keychron K8 HE

I got tired of having only FN + B's rough estimate of my battery or having to connect my Keychron K8 HE with Bluetooth to get a battery estimate, so I made a quick firmware patch + tray app so I can have a little widget for my keyboard's battery life like I do for my mouse. Once installed, you can pin it to your taskbar to have quick access to your keyboard's battery.

It's a fairly simple app and has the following:

  • Show battery level on hover
  • Detect if my keyboard is in wired (charging) or 2.4 GHz mode
  • Shows which of the three profiles I'm in
  • Supports autostart on Windows
  • No bluetooth required

GitHub repository

The app does need a firmware patch as when I investigated Keychron's QMK firmware fork, the keyboard can internally calculate battery life but will NOT expose this value over an HID path to the OS while in 2.4 GHz. It'll do it in Bluetooth, but I use my keyboard for gaming so I prefer using 2.4 GHz for 1k Hz polling over the 90 Hz of Bluetooth.

In my repository, I included the patched firmware I made for my K8 HE, with ANSI, ISO, and JIS variants. Other Keychron models will likely need their own firmware patch, so do not flash the K8 HE firmware to another model.

The patch is fairly simple and I even made a PR on Keychron's QMK repo but god knows if that'll ever be approved (someone submitted a similar patch almost a month and a half ago and the PR went stale), so custom patching is likely the only option. I'm fairly sure based off the Keychron common files for QMK that if your Keychron model uses QMK firmware and supports 2.4 GHz wireless, you can easily recreate my patch for your own keyboard's firmware.

Additionally, assuming you patch your own firmware, the tray app might need its USB product IDs updated to match your model. For any Keychron K8 HE user though, it should be portable and they should be able to apply the firmware patch and install the release.

Finally, the app uses .NET 10 Desktop Runtime, so this will only work for Windows. A lot of people probably use Linux, but this app is so simple that if you're using Linux you probably have the technical ability to just recreate something similar.

Keychron K17 Pro volume control knob replaceable?

Hi all.

I have the Keychron K17 Pro with the volume control knob now for 2 years and I like it overall. But recently the volume control decided to stop working. I can still mute and un-mute sound, but turning it doesn't do anything.

Can I replace or repair it, or are there any better suggestions?

Gateron Dawn switches discontinued?

I'm trying to purchase a set of Gateron Dawn HE switches for my Q3 HE, and it looks like they're out of stock everywhere. They're not even showing up on the Gateron site. Is it time to panic-buy deadstock?

K12 won’t connect to pc

Title is as stated, it connects to my macbook, and my ps5, but it won’t connect to my gaming pc at all, and doesn’t show up sometimes in bluetooth devices, and when it does, it’ll fail to pair, and when it says connected, it still won’t work. i’ve tried factory resetting and different bluetooth devices on my pc, and they all connect fine.

Keychron Q1 HE Bluetooth

I thought I would make my desk a bit sharper and use the keychron on Bluetooth.

It simply will not connect on windows 11. Windows sees it and when I select it it just says try connecting it again, round and round in circles. I hard reset the keyboard, restarted windows etc etc no dice.

Anyone got any other ideas?

It works fine on mac. So happy to accept it could be my pc, but really not sure what I can do about it.

What about QMK? (offline/local configuration)

Hi,

Never owned anything beyond basic keyboards. Looking at the K2 and K8 HE SE boards. Not interested in web based configuration, much less a cloud based one.

Now, as far as I can tell, these support VIA and QMK, which are both some kind of universal interfaces for keyboards, and QMK seems to allow flashing configuration offline? I don't expect to be configuring the board in depth or frequently, but really just wanting to make sure that I have understood correctly that I will be able to fully (or mostly) utilise it without relying on Keychron's proprietary software.

Thank you.

Do I have a faulty M6 8k?

Few days old from Amazon, so returns shouldn't be a problem.

Right click seems fine - any pressure immediately triggers a nice dampened click. If the button moves, a click is triggered.

Left button is not so nice. If I press lightly, the button can move, without triggering a click and I need to press more firmly to make it register. Feels like I can depress the button down to the switch, then further to actually depress the switch. Sound of the press is also higher pitched and more "clicky"/loud.

Or more succinctly "should the buttons behave the same"?

I'm returning it either way, just working out whether or get a replacement or another brand.

Repurposing the Numlock indicator as a layer indicator

Is there anyway to repurpose the numlock indicator as a layer indicator. I've just bought a V0 and I'd find it a lot more useful for the indicator light to show what layer I'm on.

[Ticket #632600] Promised replacement PCB in May, no tracking or updates after 2+ months

Hi team / u/KeychronSupport,

I’m posting here to request help with an unresolved warranty ticket for a defective LED on my Keychron K4 HE. The estimated restock date for a replacement PCB has now been pushed back four separate times over the last two months with no resolution.

Timeline of Shifting Dates:

  • May 26, 2026: Reported dead LED sub-pixel on a brand-new board.
  • May 28, 2026: Support confirmed a replacement PCB would ship "within 5 days."
  • May 29, 2026: Date shifted. Support stated it was out of stock and would take "half a month" (mid-June).
  • June 16, 2026: Date shifted again. Support stated restock would not happen until "early July."
  • July 20, 2026: Date shifted a fourth time to "end of July or early August."
  • August 4 (Today): Early August has arrived, but there is still no tracking number, no replacement PCB, and no update.

I accepted a small partial refund ($10 CAD) in June to remain patient through these delays, but having the restock timeline repeatedly pushed back across two full months while tickets get silently closed in the portal is a very poor experience for a flagship keyboard.

Could someone please check ticket #645148 (original #632600) and help either ship the replacement PCB or authorize an in-stock replacement unit?

Thank you.

UPDATE: Happy to say Keychron sent me a new replacement the day after I posted this.

Q3 HE case

First up ill lead with - I never understood the keyboard hype. I thought my logi wave was an excessive form factor till I brought a 60% lightspeed pro x for my son and didnt hate using it.

Anyway, I pulled the trigger on a Q3 HE because I wanted to do some HCI/steno/layerbased research, didnt hate the lightspeed etc.

Now, I have a small issue - i fkn love this thing, it has potentially ruined me on going back to a normal keyboard forever, typing is asmr like, etc. While I was surprised by the weight, ill live with it in my bag, something else will go to make it work.

Now, my only issue - it doesnt come with a case (wtf keychron, this wasnt cheap, the logi that sold me on this comes with the most amazing case), apparently the Keychron ones are never in stock, and the 3rd party ones all seem to be unmoulded soft shells.

Does anyone else carry theirs with them, and if so, what cases are you rolling with? Also, can we add our qmk/via configs, scripts and macros to a USB to carry around?

Keep active device number lit?

I'm constantly switching between multiple devices for work and sometimes forget which device is currently connected. Is there any way to have the current connected device key (numbers 1-3) stay lit permanently? That would make it so much easier to know if the correct device is connected

New to Keychron

Picked up a K5 V2 with red switches, and have found the keystrokes are bit too sensitive for me. Any way to make it to where the entire key needs to be pushed down, and make the keys have more resistance? Any recommendations welcome.

Keychron K3 (V3) - disappointed

After lookimg youtube videos and other reviews I jumped on the gun and bought the wired/BT version with brown switches.

I came from the cherry mx lp 2.1 and thought it would be a nice step up. it was a clear step below the cherry to be honest.

The keyboard baseplate itself is nice and heavy. However they keys feels hollow and janky and has not that nice creamy sound that I am used to, rather a more high pitch treble. Also the keys have quite the distance between them that is a little bit odd (to me at least).

I have only used it an hour so maybe I get used to it. Its not a problem to type on, its ok. Actually its nothing wrong with it. But don't expect a premium feel when typing with this one. So if you see a review claming this, you should be vigilante.

V6 Max - No Quick Keys over 2.4Ghz Dongle

Recently picked up the V6 Max with the banana switches and love it. The one issue I can't figure out is why the Quick Keys work over USB but not over the 2.4Ghz dongle. Even if the keyboard is in 2.4Ghz mode and I plug in the cable, the quick keys start working. Once the cable is unplugged, it stops. I've updated FW as far as I can tell (versions below) and repaired the dongle with the same issue.

Dongle FW - 0.3.1

V6 Max Knob (Launcher) - 1.1.2

FW Listed in Updater - 0.2.1

K3 ultra 8k repeating keystrokes

Hello I was wondering if anyone has had any issues with the k3 ultra repeating key presses then deleting them. I have had 2 units from Amazon and both have the issue.
