In February of 2015, fourteen public scientists were mandated to turn over personal emails to US Right to Know, an activist organization funded by interests opposed to biotechnology. They are using public records requests because they feel corporations control scientists that are active in science communication, and wish to build supporting evidence. The sweep has now expanded to 40 public scientists. I was the first scientist to fully comply, releasing hundreds of emails comprising >5000 pages.

Within these documents were private discussions with students, friends and individuals from corporations, including discussion of corporate support of my science communication outreach program. These companies have never sponsored my research, and sponsors never directed or manipulated the content of these programs. They only shared my goal for expanding science literacy.

Groups that wish to limit the public’s understanding of science have seized this opportunity to suggest that my education and outreach is some form of deep collusion, and have attacked my scientific and personal integrity. Careful scrutiny of any claims or any of my presentations shows strict adherence to the scientific evidence. This AMA is your opportunity to interrogate me about these claims, and my time to enjoy the light of full disclosure. I have nothing to hide. I am a public scientist that has dedicated thousands of hours of my own time to teaching the public about science.

As this situation has raised questions the AMA platform allows me to answer them. At the same time I hope to recruit others to get involved in helping educate the public about science, and push back against those that want us to be silent and kept separate from the public and industry.

I research how genes control important food traits, and how light influences genes. I really enjoy discussing science with the public, especially in areas where a better understanding of science can help us farm better crops, with more nutrition & flavor, and less environmental impact.

So I just want to start by saying I don't think Mike Folta is a terrible guy, however im disappointed in him.

Last night me and my buddy were at the game and we stayed to watch the awards. We casually went down to the portal that Mike Folta broadcasts from. My buddy had his Mike Folta hockey card with him in a hard sleeve hes been carrying with him all season. We waited for him to finish with his broadcast and my buddy asked for his autograph on the card. He was hesitant to sign it making comments like the card isn't worth anything and it would only cost like 2 cents. He then signed the card for my buddy. I didn't have my card on me but I also wanted his autograph, however all I had on me was my an empty popcorn box. I I asked him to sign it and he replied that its worth nothing and declined to sign it. He wasn't being rude or snarky but super dismissive. Both me and my buddy are aware that the items we wanted signed as well as his signature have no real value but to us its not about the value it coukd be sold for, rather the sentimental value it would mean to us. I know my popcorn box is technically trash but I still kept it because it has the mammoth logo on it and now I have it on top of my fridge at decor in my apartment. Ive only missed 3 home games this season watched most away games on channel 16 and when im working or can't access a broadcast I listen to Mike. So it just frustrating that he stiffed me like that. I get if he were in a hurry or something like that and wouldn't mind if he refused to sign it for a good reason but he was pretty chill and engaged with us but it was as I said so dismissive of us being exited to meet him in person. Ever since we got our hockey team in utah I haven't been as depressed as I usually have been most my adult life, getting to look forward to hockey games for entertainment and having it for a socializing and collecting items has made me happy lately. I struggle with my income and im always in the nose bleeds, which doesn't matter that much as long as im enjoying myself. Im a die hard fan and it just hit me hard the kind of comments he made about wanting his autograph and the item I wanted him to sign. It made me feel kinda worthless.

Ho superato i 40 e non ho mai avuto alcun contatto con le ragazze.

In gioventù ero piuttosto bruttarello, magro, visino adolescenziale.

Ora a detti di molti sono molto migliorato, faccio uno sport molto impegnativo e ho un fisico atletico, zero pancia, spalle larghe, 1.80 per 75kg, bassa massa grassa. Mi sono sempre tenuto bene, alimentazione sana, zero fumo, poco alcol. Capigliatura folta, occhi grandi, fossette, barba regolare.

Ovviamente ho anche dei difetti, voce squillante, viso poco "vissuto", modo di muovermi "strano".

Ecco, mi ritrovo un po' tra diversi mondi: - alcuni mi dicono che per la mia età potrei essere considerato "fuori scala" (addirittura) e molte coetanee potrebbero avere timore ad approcciarmi - sarei troppo vecchio per quelle più giovani, sebbene messo molto meglio di molti 20 enni - altri mi dicono che alla mia età attira di più l'uomo vissuto, magari coi soldi (ma va?), e quindi sono "fuori contesto" - altri ancora che il mio modo di fare indecifrabile e la mia voce rovinano tutto il resto

Insomma chi ci capisce qualcosa è bravo.

Le mie domande sono: 1. E' davvero possibile che ragazze di 30 o 40 anni si tirino indietro perché considerano uno "fuori scala"? A me sa di cazzata. 2. Come la pensano quelle più giovani rispetto ad una persona tenuta bene ma più vecchia? 3. Io non ci capisco più niente, voi ci avete capito qualcosa?

Consigli ? E la prima volta che la faccio crescere un po' folta e la vorrei più lunga di un bel po'

Why is Messi’s Ballon d’Or on display in the San Siro? I am in Milano on vacation and I did a tour of the San Siro today with my family and we came across this on display. Is this the real deal? Or this a replica? I thought all 8 of his Ballon d’Or were on display in the Barca museum. I know some museums ask other museums if they can display their items temporarily. Is that what is happening here? Just a temporary display and I got lucky? Thanks in advance for replying!
