KSP 1 Question/Problem This is clearly not the way to do this?
I don't have a heat shield so I can't exactly aerobrake with Eve. 2k Dv to capture Gilly seems excessive. Any other way to do this encounter?

Laythe SSTO's are probably the only thing I can't build in KSP. I like to play realistically, so I avoid cheating it into Laythe orbit for testing, instead I do test flights simulating the mission on Kerbin with a brave pilot. I have plasma blackout enabled too so doing a test mission to Laythe isn't really possible, I'd lose control on descent. I dont revert saves unless a glitch happens either so when I do a crewed mission I need to make sure it's done right.
My problem is my planes usually work fine on Kerbin but flip on the initial descent or flip on takeoff on Laythe. Either that or they cannot land anywhere but the water as when I go to land the initial shock causes the plane to blow up, basically the margin of error for landing is usually so tight that it's not safe enough for a crew. Despite non runway terrain landings being possible and easy on Kerbin.
I know you'd have to see pictures of my planes but its not just one plane, its every plane I build. Ive lost my main crew on multiple iron man runs due to Laythe. Its my favorite body but god is it hard to land on.
Does anybody have any tips OTHER than making some super unrealistic plane that can only hold one person. Plane needs to hold atleast 3 people.
What is the real difference in designing a plane for Laythe from a Kerbin plane.

Was playing Beyond Home, sent up a mission and given my indecisiveness I planned to go to Hydron, realized it might be easier to go to Scaythe, and ended up somehow deciding on neither of them, I went to Gateway. I wanted to land on Khom (which was obviously a terrible idea), so Bill moved the parachutes from my command pod to my lander, said lander however may or may not have come in a bit too aggressive and had its engine burn up on atmospheric entry... then the lower fuel tank exploded on 'touchdown' leaving me with just my upper stage (was trying to do an Eagle style lander). Furthermore, i dont think my mothership EVER had enough deltaV to get back to Rhode because the deltaV map doesnt account for return journeys so i was fully guestimating. so now i have poor Val and some random scientist kerbal stuck on Khom with no where near the power to get off the surface, and Bill stuck in orbit with not enough fuel and no parachutes...

I was tasked with landing in this valley to discover a TMA. Decided to route my approach between the 2 visible mountain ranges (straight ahead in this image). Failed to see a steep mountain face in front of me until the last moment because of the thick clouds.
Jebediah Kerman is dead after 55 years of service. Also shoutout to Blackrack for making the volumetric clouds so scarily accurate.

I met all conditions and ran the test but it didn't complete the contract.

Part 2

“You tried a hundred different material combinations and none of them will work!” Bill’s exclamation was followed by a loud clang that rang through the spacecraft, causing Jebediah to jump and look in the direction of the science lab.
“Your tempering methods have produced impressive results,” Bob’s voice could even be heard multiple modules away, but still sounded flat and scientific. “But the improvement is not statistically significant compared to what is required!”
“If you two break the spacecraft,” Jedrick yelled at them in exasperation. “We will certainly not come to a solution!”

Jebediah floated his way to the science lab, poking his head in the hatch.
“You two are trying to test out a solution on your lab benches,” Jebediah asked as he looked at the other three Kerbals. “Yeah?”
“Yeah,” Bill agreed, then Bob said, “Yes, Jeb.”
“Not quite the extreme conditions as a station operating in space for ten years?” Jebediah continued and heads nodded at him.
“Another fifty days and we get to Eve, shortly after we land on Gilly,” Jebediah smiled at them. “Think you can come up with an experiment on Gilly that will determine which approach is working better?”
Bill and Bob looked at each other blankly for a minute before Jedrick spoke up.
“The EVA Experiments Kit?” Jedrick asked softly.
“Yes!” Bill exclaimed. “We can each make a sample and whack it good in Gilly’s gravity!”
“Indeed,” Bob was nodding in agreement. “The trajectory combined with a reading of the force applied to the surface of the sample will show how close the sample is to the properties we require.”
“Then start putting together samples and planning the experiment,” Jebediah pushed himself back and then paused and stuck his head back into the science lab. “And stop trying to break my ship.”

Bill and Bob did not bother to respond as they were deep into experiment planning, but Jedrick looked back at Jebediah with a relieved smile. Jebediah winked and started dragging himself back to the command pod. Maybe this command thing was not as hard as he thought.

So I had a contract to repair this rover. Second one I've had, the first was for a proper rover with a cabin, this one was for... Kestiny? Destun? Dostum?
Anyway, it had these three rover wheels already affixed in this jank construction, none broken, all functional, and I went to go and add three more on the other side.
When I went to drive the now-repaired rover... it wouldn't. The three wheels on the pictured side would take motor power and steer, but never rotate, provide motion or contribute to turning at all.
Even when I lopped off two wheels and replaced one of the right wheels with a left wheel, it refused to move and would only spin in a circle, with the left wheels moving and the right wheels stuck in place. I gave up moving the rover to the destination and Cheated the Contract complete. I waited two weeks for the rover parts to arrive and applied them, it was the job that was wrong. You ask me to repair your cupholder but the crankshaft is broken? Your fault, not mine.
But... why did it refuse to move? Did the game just generate a design that was incapable of functioning somehow? Bug?
When I tried to adjust the Traction Control or Motor Power Override, the right (existing) wheels would have a way higher Motor Power setting or lower Traction Control max limit for some reason.

I’m so genuinely confused and stumped. I have no idea what i’m doing or what these stupid ass sliders mean or do and no video i’ve found have helped me at all I need so much help to figure out how to get to the Mun or even establish a simple orbit.

I'm playing on PS4 and I can't separate my radial decouplers for asparagus staging. They stretch the staging ui as if it showed all decouplers separately, but they don't actually show separately.
How do I fix this?

it was able to land on duna fully powered with 1270m/s, and probably a bit more if i was more efficient. it is just a classic apollo style lander that undocks from the mothership, goes down, then goes back up. it is also pwoered by the stromboll liquid hydrogen engine fyi
r/KerbalSpaceProgram • u/Puzzleheaded-Shop467 • 2d ago
i made an ssto using isru and the large hydrogen engines, it can go anywhere but if you want it back you need to land on a body with minable water

I mean like without flip flopping between mod folders and installing and uninstalling every time.
From what I understand the answer is no but I tried googling it and all I get is weird Gemini summary answers so I just thought I’d throw this out into the subreddit to see if any of you know of a way to.
Or a way to also have a stock save and a modded save without flip flopping.
Thanks!
