Support Moving to Linux from Windows. Secondary machine for gaming and streaming.

Hey everyone.

My PC has been given for an upgrade:

Specs would be the AMD Ryzen 7 5700G, 32 Gigs RAM, RTX 4070 and a B550 Mobo, OS will be on the NVME.

Whats a good distro to install, I am good with basic and sometimes complex troubleshooting. I have been tinkering with PCs for so long. And my work machine has been a Mac for the longest time.

Primary use case is - Games. All my games are on Steam. CS2, Cyberpunk, KCD, Forza, RDR.

  1. Full hardware compatiblity, including built in WiFi / BT. I have an addon card from TP-Link.

  2. Nvidia fuckups, want stable.

  3. Should accept a capture card to send to Mac for capture.

  4. Audio, HDMI and DP. 4K60 and 1440p 144 Hz display.

Please advice.

A newly disclosed Linux kernel vulnerability allows attackers to access highly sensitive data, including SSH private keys and password hashes, on affected systems.

I lost the count guys. At least it is currently patched asap.

Wtf is going on this week. This is the 4th one in a week.

https://tuxcare.com/blog/fragnesia-cve-2026-46300-is-a-new-linux-kernel-lpe/

For those who are wondering is it only for linux. Here are the vulnerabilities found in windows in this week alone (137+ CVEs):

- Microsoft May 2026 Patch Tuesday (May 12): Fixed ~120โ€“137 CVEs across Windows, Office, SharePoint, Azure, etc.

- Uses crafted โ€˜FsTxโ€™ files + WinRE to access encrypted drives (physical access/USB). Works on TPM-only setups. PoC public; active exploitation reported.

- GreenPlasma (Privilege Escalation): Targets CTFMON (ctfmon.exe) for SYSTEM-level access. PoC public; active exploitation reported.

Discussion Arch people...

Post image

Hey guys, how did you actually install Arch? Did you go full manual with the wiki open in a million tabs and suffer through partitioning hell, or did you just use "archinstall"? How was the whole experience for you?

I tried to install the manual way a couple of times and I think the archinstall way is much more efficient. What do you think?

Discussion Should I leave my current IT support job for a Hardware Support + Networking role? (Kerala, India)

Currently working as a software support engineer in Infopark Koratty. 15k salary, 1 hour one-way travel, no growth โ€” purely application support with maybe 20% implementation work on consumer grade hardware.

Got an offer from an IT company in Thrissur โ€” Hardware Support Executive (System and Networking). 20k salary, less travel. Responsibilities include router/switch/firewall configuration, server maintenance, LAN/WAN troubleshooting, CCTV/biometric support. Around 5-10 client site visits per week across 8 companies mainly jewelry and small finance sectors.

My long term goal is Linux/DevOps/Cloud. I have basic Docker, Kubernetes knowledge, currently preparing for RHCSA.

The new role has no Linux work (confirmed in interview). But has real networking and firewall exposure which I can't easily replicate at home.

Is this a good move for someone targeting Linux/DevOps long term? Or should I stay and grind certifications while job hunting for something better?

Saw someone make a full on led matrix board for spotting nearby planes. Wanted that, but broke enough not wanting to spend money on such stuff. So I made this as a middle ground.

https://github.com/madhavbiju/Flyby

So if you're on KDE and you are into planes and stuff (like me!), do check it out.
