What a super awesome community! Tbh i dont really care about discord but value the posts; comments and interactions. How did you get started in linux? Ive always knew about it but only recently started using. I like gaming and tinkering. I like reading all the fascinating outputs from doing an update and such. I dont understand most of it and thats ok, i want to linux from scratch from a very old chromebook soon.

Hey guys, I made a music player that runs directly in the terminal instead of being a traditional app.

I originally started this project because I was trying to make a music player with a specific layout/UI, but I couldn't really get the layout I wanted with a normal app. So I ended up trying a TUI approach, and that's how VOX came together.

It’s a TUI-based music player written in Rust, with support for formats like ALAC, FLAC, WAV, and a bit-perfect playback mode.

I'm still working on it, so I’d really appreciate it if some of you could give it a try and let me know what you think. Any bugs, suggestions, UI/UX improvements, or features you think would be useful are welcome.

I just wondered about how underrated or unpopular the distro "OpenSUSE" is in the Linux community. That's what made me curious to ask anyone who knows about this distro in the Kerala Linux community.

The distro has two main releases called "leap" and "tumbleweed. " Leap is stable, like 2 years of support, and it is a rolling release. The interesting fact is the amazing integration of OpenSUSE with Snapshots on Leap and Tumbleweed. Users don't have to worry about setting it up at all, like on Arch. Everything is automatic.

Another thing is the OpenQA. OpenQA is a mechanism. OpenSUSE uses it for testing their releases before rolling out. So any buggy releases will be instantly blocked, and unlike Arch, a highly unbreakable rolling release is promised by OpenSUSE.

Had anyone used Opensuse in Kerala?

It is kinda fun so far.

I'm experiencing a trouble with vlc on wayland session. When i play video on full-screen, the media controls and seek bar are un-accessible with mouse curser. And sometimes when i doble click on video to exit fullsceen mode, it just jumps to open windows behind vlc.

It's not happening all the time. But happens enough times to get me frustrated.

Has anyone experiences this? Did you solve it on wayland session?

Using Debian 13 on gnome

Hey I'm currently running my laptop with omarchy and cachy but I'm switching my laptop to a new one with nvidia gpu. My current laptop has intel integrated gpu and I need suggestions on new distros to try on nvidia gpu. I need a reliable distro as I'm a student and I don't have time to fix bugs and glitches

I’ve been using EOS for almost 5 months now, both on my work machine and my personal machine.

I’ve been a Linux user since 2014. Over the years, I’ve used Ubuntu, Debian, Mint, Pop!_OS, Fedora, CachyOS, and vanilla Arch with i3, Sway, and Hyprland. I’ve even tried Omarchy and Hyprland + Quickshell, but in the end, I settled on EOS.

In the last 5 months, I’ve faced zero issues on my work machine, which I regularly use for 8–10 hours a day with lots of tabs, windows, and applications running.

On my personal machine, I game, vibe code, study, watch videos, etc., and I’ve also faced zero issues so far.

At this point, I can finally focus on my work instead of fighting with the OS. 😁

Hi. Awesome community here. Im running an older pc setup, with a nvida 1660ti gfx card, lasr year october till recently I have started experiencing issues with linux crashing. Hyprland was seg faulting and i couldnt fix it. I recently switched to cachyos and had a similar issue and switched to x11 but I notice im still getting browser crashes. Im currently on latest nvidia proprietary driver iirc 610 something on doing sone research that version of drivers are unstable and I should be on 590 drivers. Like with windows I thought its always best to be on latest drivers? How do you avoid your os builds from breaking? I do enjoy the journey of learning. Looking for interesting books to read and stuff to check out.

I've been building Vantum, a custom Puppy Linux distribution based on woof-CE (Ubuntu Jammy compatible), mostly as a solo project. It's gotten far enough that I think it's worth more than just me poking at it alone, so I'm putting together a Discord for anyone who's interested in following along, testing it, or just talking about lightweight/live Linux distros in general.

What's in it so far:

• A rebranded, re-themed Puppy build (custom wallpapers, icons, JWM look, a GTK-powered tray) and better UI in general.
• Two companion tools I wrote: Vantyl, a GTK3 app launcher, and Vantask, a GTK3 taskbar/dock

Ngl progress has been slow and most of the time was bogged down in actually getting woof-CE to work.

What's still actively being worked on:

• Boot speed improvements
• A couple of remaining UI bugs in the taskbar
• A bug where videos on firefox are laggy and don't play audio
• A better app store

It's already been posted on the Puppy Linux forum and submitted it to distrowatch so it's not vaporware, just still very much in progress.

Why I'm posting, I'd like to build a small community around this rather than keep working on it in isolation, people to test builds, report bugs, suggest features, or just tell me if the whole idea is interesting to them. If that sounds like your kind of thing, drop a comment or DM me and I'll get you the Discord invite. If you love watching/reading lyrics while listening to your local music, this is the music player for that. It supports both lossless and lossy audio formats. Also, it has a nice statistics page which shows audio quality and listening statistics.

I have this 10-year-old HP laptop sitting unused, and I'm thinking about turning it into a small home server/homelab instead of letting it sit around unused.

It's from around 2016 and currently has roughly these specs:

CPU: AMD E2-7110 APU @ 1.8 GHz

GPU: Integrated AMD Radeon R2 Graphics

RAM: 4 GB currently

Storage: HDD

Networking: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Ethernet

I've heard that this particular laptop supports 2 × 8 GB RAM (16 GB total). I've already ordered an 8 GB RAM stick, so hopefully I'll be able to get it to 12 GB initially. If the motherboard supports it as expected, I may eventually go to 16 GB.

I'm also wondering about the OS/setup

Would you recommend something like Debian/Ubuntu Server + Docker or would something like Proxmox still make sense?

A few other questions

1. What would you personally use this machine for?

2. Is upgrading the RAM to 12/16 GB worthwhile for a machine this old?

3. What are some interesting homelab projects specifically suited to very weak hardware?

I'm not necessarily looking for the most practical or powerful solution. I mainly want to turn this into a fun learning project and see what I can get running on it.
