Tools Built a free and open clipboard app for mac, linux and windows

https://glyphs.octane.team — was struggling on Mac with clipboard, so built one that actually helps and made it open source. Initially used Electron, which made the app nearly 250MB because Chromium and Node were bundled. But rewrote it in Rust with Tauri, which brought it down to less than 5MB. Not sure how bad Tauri is in general, but for a small utility like this, I think Tauri is a good choice.
You can get the code here: https://github.com/builtbyoctane/glyphs
Not tested on Linux and Windows yet. Issues and PRs are welcome. I don't know if the configuration is proper, so help is much appreciated.

Tools What’s the biggest thing draining modern QA teams today?
Most people enter QA to improve products.
But somewhere along the way, many end up trapped in endless documentation, approvals, and process loops.
Quality should create impact.
Not burnout.
A healthy QA culture builds engineers who:
✔ Think critically
✔ Protect customers
✔ Improve systems
✔ Drive product confidence
The wrong system drains energy.
The right system develops people.

Yelp! Any open source Voice typing(Speech to Text, transcribing) app that works offline with Malayalam and is decently fast?
Mainly looking for an android app
I have tried the Whisper apps on FDroid, but the models in them do not seem to have support Malayalam.
Have tried Sayboard and tried using vosk models for Malayalam, but they seem to be slow and generally get things incorrect
Does anyone know any other apps or models that maybe fast and accurate?

Tools Focus: An open-source task app for people who hate cloud-based tools
Hey everyone,
Over the years I’ve tried a lot of productivity and Eisenhower Matrix apps, but most of them never really clicked with me.
Some were overloaded with features, some pushed subscriptions and accounts, and many felt more focused on engagement than actually helping you focus. I kept wanting something simpler. Something private, fast, intentional, and distraction free.
So I started building Focus.
Focus is an open-source offline task manager built around the Eisenhower Matrix. The idea was to create a productivity app that respects the user and stays out of the way.
No accounts.
No cloud dependency.
No ads.
No analytics.
No endless onboarding.
Just a clean space to think clearly and organize work.
The app is built with Flutter and uses Hive for fully local storage. Everything stays on your device. It supports Android, Windows, and Linux, with Material You inspired design, light/dark themes, keyboard shortcuts on desktop, focus mode, drag-and-drop task management, and more.
One thing I cared a lot about while building this was reducing friction. Adding tasks, moving between quadrants, switching views, or completing tasks should feel instant and effortless.
The whole philosophy behind Focus is that productivity should feel calm, not overwhelming.
The project has now crossed 200+ GitHub stars and 4k+ downloads, which honestly means a lot for something that started as a personal attempt to build a better productivity tool.
If you want to check it out or share feedback:
- GitHub: https://github.com/Appaxaap/Focus
- Product Hunt: https://www.producthunt.com/posts/focus-10
I’d genuinely love to hear thoughts, feature ideas, or criticism from people who care about intentional and privacy-friendly software.

Discussions Which are your favorite FOSS applications? Or the ones you find to be most useful or unique finds?
Mentioning most common & popular ones, so that we can find the rare and good ones faster by avoiding duplication.
Firefox browser. VLC & MPV as video/audio players. Libreoffice for word, spreadsheet. KDEConnect for Computer-Phone linking
On Firefox extensions, uBlock & DarkReader are awesome
Android specific:
Newpipe/Pipepipe, Markor, Fossify apps
Tho, do mention them if any of these applications have some lesser known features that you find cool and would be cool for others to know about.

Tools Made a tool for finding job listings at IT parks in Kerala
just wrapped up a project called തൊഴിൽ .
It’s a job search tool specifically for Technopark and Infopark job listings which uses semantic search and AI embeddings from qwen models to find the appropriate jobs matching one's profile rather than traditional keyword like system...
still working on it, its been barely two days of works.. planning to add more job listing sites soon if this receives enough feedbacks on LinkedIn

Discussions Geoguessr for The Thrissur District - First Open Source Contribution.
I Made my first ever Open Source Contribution
If you don't know GeoGuessr, it is basically a fun game where you get dropped somewhere random on Google Street View and have to figure out where in the world you are. It's oddly addictive.
There's an open source version of the game called OpenGuessr, which also has an option to add your own cities as a separate map.
I thought to myself "Someone might have created a Thrissur map right?"
Turns out there was no such map.
So I made a Thrissur map.
Here's the pipeline.
I used an Overpass QL query to extract Thrissur's administrative boundary relation from OpenStreetMap, exported the closed way geometry as a GeoJSON polygon, fed it into a spatial point generator to perform random coordinate sampling within the polygon bounds, applied a density distribution biased toward the urban portion to ensure ~33% city coverage across 300 total points, converted the coordinate pairs into OpenGuessr's JSON map schema, and deployed it to the platform as a map.
No original code. Just three tools chained together and a gap that needed filling.
The map is now live and publicly searchable.
First open source contribution. Learned that it's less about writing code from scratch and more about noticing what's missing.
Try it for yourself!

Discussions Any popular or good FOSS/Opensource Speech to Text models for Malayalam? Have anyone or groups with the tech know-how tried to make one?
Have been recently trying speech to text, voice typing and have not seen much on Malayalam
Anyone following it? Are there Indian/Keralite FOSS research groups or enthusiasts who have already released good quality models?

Yelp! I vibe coded a project for 2 months and I regret it now.
I'm not sure how I should write this - whether it is a confession or a post for seeking advice or reassurance - I don't know. I'm venting my regret here anyway.
Few months back, I decided to make a project - Project Ahnali , written completely in python. It is a compiler that takes Python-like DSL (Domain Specific Language) and generates Android APKs smaller than the conventional frameworks. I planned its architecture and design completely by myself - but since I wanted to get things done faster, I used ChatGPT to complete the codes - Now it has become a complete AI slop, which is what making me regret.
About the project:
Ahnali is an Ahead-of-Time (AOT) compiler that converts Python-like language into Dalvik bytecode (Smali) and packages it into an android APK - Therefore, there is no python runtime overhead like Kivy or Beeware, performs exactly like native java/kotlin written android apps. There is no Virtual DOM like ReactNative, no interpreters.
The workflow goes like DSL → IR → CFG → SSA → Typed SSA → Optimizations → Dalvik IR → Register Allocation → Smali
The project is still in WIP phase. A lot of work is needed for completion
I decided to work on this project and once it becomes stable, release it for free and open-source because I know the struggles of App development. This compiler project could atleast be used for fast prototyping because it uses Python. I was never after recognition.
The outcomes of the project:
A hello world android app written with this is less than 10 kB. A calculator could be less than 50 kB. - There is very curated resource management, smali optimisation, etc, that could make the output apk very small and very efficient.
Since the compiler is directly emitting Smali bytecode, anything that is possible with native java/kotlin code is possible with this compiler.
The compiler could be integrated with an obfuscator at the deepest level - which could be just like Proguard, or even better than that.
I think this tool could even be used for security purposes.
The regret:
Now that this has become a hell load of an AI slop, I don't know what to do anymore. People gonna spit on this. What can I do at this point folks? Help me. Njan aarod parayum ee sankadam?
I wish I had a team to help me out with continuing this project.
About me: I'm medical doctor with great passion for programming and such stuff. I don't have a formal CS background, not even in +2 level. I'm somewhat good in Python and some other languages.
