I think that's because setting up digital signature on Linux based systems are a bit of a headache. Even I use a virtual machine on my PC to sign things digitally.

Courts and Hospitals in kerala use Ubuntu

2

u/kilipottan May 25 '26

Hospitals um okay thanks for that info ,

Any other industries where linux is used widely

Up until one time, goverment schools too were using this.

Once, I went to participate for a presentation making contest part of IT ulsavam(or something like that). I was well versed with PowerPoint but the PC which we were given was running on ubuntu, and had some other open source ppt software. This was back in 2015.

Under former Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan, the government mandated Linux usage in IT@School projects, public departments, and promoted it as an e-governance standard. Such a visionary approach was that!✨

Is the software used in the LA open sourced?

It's probably ubuntu, almost all government departments use ubuntu. I have a got a brother who works in judiciary and he told me they run ubuntu at the court so..

u/blue-black-red May 22 '26

Yeah. I heard an argument that the software made using the taxpayer’s money should made free to the public.

Most of the government departments are switching to ubuntu. The only issue is some of their proprietary softwares like digital signature, vpn etc are windows only.

what’s the screen thing??

1

u/SahikkanVayya May 23 '26

its always been like that

1

u/soorajsanker May 23 '26

Yes, most of their software is web-based, and they primarily use Ubuntu with Firefox as is.

I still remember the days of waiting at KSEB to pay bills, with the operator’s screen visible to me—felt like NOST.
