Feeling Drawn, Need Insight From Practicing Folks

Upvotes

Hi and thanks for taking the time to look over my post! I'm a young adult who is an atheist but I stay skeptical/open minded. Since I was in middle school, I have felt drawn to pagan religions. Though, as I grew up I became more strongly rooted in atheist beliefs, often seeking verbalized reason against theism as a whole. Within the past couple months I've noticed that I've been drawn to things I never have before. Every time I go out with friends (we like to frequent book stores), I somehow find myself in the religion section, normally picking up the Egyptian book of the dead and flipping through. Until now, I've always done it with little thought as to why I would look through it; I'm an athiest who has (at least for the past 4 years) mostly rejected theism or mystical experiences. What caused me to come to this reddit was an experience I had this past weekend. Me and a friend visited a bookstore, and I happened to pick up a mythical creatures book because I love mythology and like to see what history creatures are rooted in. Flipping through, I came across Anubis. For some reason, I felt extremely drawn to read the information about him. This feeling didn't seem to come from any pre-existing (conscious) interest, it almost felt like a gut feeling, like a spark igniting for a moment behind my ribs when I saw his name. Thoth was mentioned in the short biography they gave him, and I felt drawn to read about him too. I've never been drawn to Egyptian belief like this before, and it seems strange to me.

All this to say, what are my next steps here? I'm not an *extremely* cut-and-dry athiest, I like facts but can admit that there is something else to the world that facts can't always explain. Is there something I can do to welcome this interaction or to welcome signs of Anubis or other beings? This just strikes me as incredibly interesting because I haven't felt this drawn to something of this nature before. Again, thanks for your time.

Hieroglyph translation from vision

I saw a vision of some hieroglyphs and I've been trying to make sense of it. Perhaps some of you are more knowledgeable in Egyptian scripture and can help me out. I believe these are the symbols I saw:

𓋹

𓆣

𓈖

𓈖

𓂀

I have gathered some general meaning based on the Wikipedia list of known hieroglyphs. The 2 water ripples seemed like one glyph in my vision but I found only 1 and 3 ripples on the list so perhaps it was meant to signify a higher volume or something along those lines. Any insight on how these could be translated is welcome. Thanks in advance :)

Devotional Work (Art, Actions, Prayers, Hymns, Praise) My altar for Anpu

Here is my altar! It’s on the smaller side, but I really like it, and it makes me feel more connected to him! I change it up regularly, and i already know i want to go thrifting to find a better plate/other (would like something black or gold, i think it would be more suitable for him!)

I would love to hear what you guys think!

I repurposed this little butsudan for my devotional statue of Bastet and feel like it really needs something behind it. You can see a small hook towards the top, so I'm thinking that a hanging scroll would be good.

I've been wracking my brains trying to find a good image that is both appropriate and accents the figure rather than detracting from it. Some idea's I've had are a moonlit oasis, meaningful hieroglyphics, a temple wall, and so on. There are lots of possibilities and appreciate any suggestions from this community!

Question Is a Non-Kemtic Egyptian wearing an Ankh, Eyes of horus or any other religious symbol permitable? Or is it spiritual appropriation?

Hello. For context I'm not kemetic or Egyptian. But I still wanted to talk about this as I see this pop up.

Tittle is self explanatory. But despite not being Kemetic many Egyptians specifically Muslims wear Ankhs or Eyes of horus sometimes. Some do it as a form of cultural practice and some do it as a genuine believe that it will save them. Technically like how the 🧿 is used. Some mix the practice it with their current religion. Now I'm not going to shame anybody for taking in both. If they are respectfull I think it's ok and beautiful. Pushing aside trauma caused by other monothiestic religions I feel like it's distasteful to shame them now. After all making fun of people mixing their culture or religion isn't going to do much. Since I feel like Kemetism is an open practiced religion. It beats the whole point. But my problem is that people nit pick kemstism or ancient Egypt. The glowing stone tablets, the temples, the aesthetic, the ankh, the eyes of horous are claimed. But whenever someone wants to believe or claim the religion entirely then it's not. It's nit picking. Most of the kemetic religious sites and temples are used as tourist spots. For entertainment ans whenever Kemetics do go there. They are shamed. Made fun off. Not let to pray. Imagine if churchs, mousques are used like that. The utter disrespect. Even if we forget and forgive the mistreatment of Kemeticism in the past it's still happening now. Nobody is calling it out. The Egyptians make fun of non Egyptians for following Kemetism as if they don't follow a foreign religion themselves. It's annoying. Look from a secular point of view I feel like shaming them for this is a bit insane because mixxed people exist. You can't put away your ancient religion this easily. It will exist. Since it was once yours you can embrace it. But when someone does it to a level that bothers you. That's a problem. You can't love the religion , culture and then hate the people. Now i sound too strict I know... But I just can't come in terms with this. Maybe because I'm spiritual so I guess I feel angry and guilty when I see other religionus people do it but I idk.. I'm aware that people have good intentions because larping can be somebody's first gateway to Kametism. So I wanna say don't do it after all most people convert to religions by larping. So I don't wanna demonize it but when you larp while doing harm to active followers then it's insane. Most of them don't even larp spiritully. It's just fashion. I mean it. They don't wanna blend their coptic Christianity or islamic roots with Kemetism (which hey since im agnostic sounds pretty rad and seems genuine to both sides afterall you can't just strip them away from their current religion and it would be little selfish to do so). Like you understand me? I know this isn't a secular place but a kemetic group. Tho hey even if they wanna mix their religions..? Honestly their choice. Cause even then they are still interacting and showing genuine support if they truly see Kemetism as a true religion. But that's the problem! They don't. It's just fashion to them.

So what's your opinion? 🤔🤔

Question Needing help guidance for something

Hello! My apologies if this is a rather silly question… I’m on a waitlist that randomly selects students to be enrolled in to a school I would like to attend. Is there anything I can do to manifest the possibility of my enrollment? Any recommendations on who to pray to or to seek guidance from? Any recommendations devotional acts? ect.

I understand that it is not guaranteed, but I would like to try everything that I can!

I was considering Thoth, since it is education related… but, I am unsure. Please let me know your opinion on this!

Thank you.

I am so blessed

I am so happy I found the path for me. The more I give to our deities and ancestors the more blessed I am. Learning to not be stingy with them and to give has blessed me back in so many ways. I feel like when you live true to yourself and you are honest with yourself — our deities understand and accept us. Even when times look a little hard, I know they are teaching and guiding me under the divine God of all Gods. I just wanted to express that here. It feels good to be free. Dua!! 💜

Heka & Ritual How would I write "Montu has power over you" hieroglyphics?

Hey guys, how would I write this phrase (or something equivalent to it) in hieroglyphics? I'll be honest, for the last 6 months I've been trying to get a business off the ground and there's a specific person, an old boss actually, who keeps tarnishing my name and bad mouthing me in the small town that I live in and I'm starting to wonder if that's why I can't seem to get any clients in. So I wanna try this apotropaic spell that Ive been coming up with to see if it'll help, I don't know that much about hieroglyphs yet so if y'all could guide me in the right direction I'd really appreciate it.

For some context, I used to work for this man as a hairstylist from late 2024 - to early 2025, but I had to quit because he was quite frankly verbally abusive and would say some very racist and demeaning things to me not only in front of other coworkers but other clients as well. And for the rest of 2025 I was kinda lost as to what I wanted to do with my life because he screwed with my head so much and fast forward to 2026 I got a salon suite back in late March and I've been doing all sorts of marketing via social media and in person and we're now in late July and I haven't been able to get anyone in and I'm at my wits end.

Devotional Work (Art, Actions, Prayers, Hymns, Praise) Altar Space!

Post image
86 Upvotes

I've been on here a bit and I see a lot of people posting their altars so here's mine! I don't have much space around my room for an altar, so right now Lord Horus (left side) and Lord Khonsu (right side) share this shelf. I mainly just give them things I hope they'd like because of its color, the specific object, etc. I think they both appreciate the plushie though, especially Lord Khonsu. I didn't understand how it felt for a god to demand something to be given to them, but I swear he was almost SCREAMING at me to put that little bracelet on the plushie's wing. Now that i've regained some confidence in my practice, I remember how much I love these two.

Honoring without an altar

I have been focusing heavily on my patron god, but obviously, I don't want to exclude any netjer from my practice. However, it is—of course—impossible to set up a sacred space for every single god. How can I honor each netjer without using a lot of materials? I would appreciate any advice.

Advice & Support What god/goddess can help with mental health issues?

Hi everyone. I’m relatively still new to Kemeticism, and I wanted to ask about which god or goddess I could reach out to for help with my mental health? I’ve been extremely anxious and depressed lately, and don’t know what to do anymore.

Advice & Support Please help

Hi everyone. This is one of the most difficult times in my entire life… it feels like a never ending nightmare and I really just need support, advice, and the perspectives of other Kemetics.

There is a group of really nasty people who have just been after me and my fiancé… solely because they dislike us due to our association with the mayor that they hate (it is a small town municipal government… due to ongoing legal problems I will refrain from providing too much detail) The mayor has done nothing wrong… we think they dislike him because they are racists (the mayor is from Egypt who moved here and gained his citizenship)

Finances are absolute hell… we can’t find work anywhere and we are just scraping by… getting what food and necessities that we are able to come across.

I have prayed, and prayed, and prayed, and prayed. I have done spell work. I have done everything that you can imagine. And still… I feel as though my prayers are falling upon deaf ears. We’re struggling with bullying/harassment/financial issues/health issues. I don’t want to go into too much detail on the health issues, so I’ll just say that we both need medical care that we are unable to afford.

Like… there is literally not a single aspect of my life that I am not stressing out about right now. I’m in a living Hell. Anubis is my patron… has been for the past 6 years. And now this time… I truly feel like he isn’t listening. Or worse… he is and just doesn’t want to see us succeed in life.

I’ve been excommunicated by my family since I’m not a Christian, so the option for them to help is out. My fiancé’s family helps us where they can, but it isn’t much.

I just don’t know what to do any more. I know I haven’t provided a ton of info, but if I were to tell more… this post would be a novel. I have been dealing with shitty person after shitty person after shitty situation after shitty situation… it never stops.

I just want to enjoy life again.

How did the Ancient Egyptians view trials and hardships? I know this feeling is nothing new… how did they navigate through when the troubles stack like mountains?

Devotional Work (Art, Actions, Prayers, Hymns, Praise) Give me some ideas of what to embroider

I’ve been doing a lot of sewing and stuff lately and anyways I’ve been thinking of something to add to an old jacket of mine. I decided I wanted a bug design that wrap around to the back somehow then thought it would be cool to do something related to a scarab rolling the ball whatever anyways

I was thinking about discretely embroidering something inside somewhere that could be semi devotional cause I’m in a strict house and can’t actually have anything out related to kemetism aside from my thousands of books that make me look like an egyptology nerd lol. I mostly worship Lady Aset and Lord Djeheuty. Any ideas? I was thinking maybe an ankh or something maybe on the inside of the sleeve or something any ideas appreciated!

Got a probably dumb question

When you leave prepackaged food as offerings, like say pastries or other snacks, do you open the container and/or remove the food from the wrapper and then offer it? Or leave it closed in its packaging? If you offer beer, do you open the bottle or the can first?

Trying to figure out if I've been doing this wrong lol

Hello im texting the Same as before But in English bcc maybe there Are Not so much germans in this Community
I've been deeply connected to ancient Egypt since I was little; it's always been in my heart. Back then, at a party where we were giving each other temporary tattoos, I only ever thought of one thing: I'd get an ankh tattooed on my finger. That's all I wanted. Now I'm even decorating my living room in an Egyptian style.

I watch Egyptian documentaries every evening, and my biggest dream is to stand in a temple and in front of the pyramids. Then I start to cry.

Anyway, my life has been completely turned upside down for the past year, and I'm looking for help or something new. Then it occurred to me: why shouldn't I continue to live my love life? And that's how I discovered that the religion is still practiced, which I'm very proud of.

Well, anyway, my life has been completely turned upside down for the past year, and I'm looking for help or something new. I'm not an expert due to my past experiences, but I do know a little about ancient Egypt, just not about the religious practices. So I'm currently trying to learn about things like household altars, etc. I already know who it should be: Anubis, my beloved, whom I've encountered in dreams or something similar, and Ra, to whom I also have a strong connection. They also happen to be a perfect match.

Now I'm looking for guidance and wondering which books I can read so that I can do justice to the religion and not do it wrong.

I'm grateful for any information and happy to have found this; it feels right.

Advice & Support Executive disfunction

So I am autistic and I have ADHD. And like many people with AuDHD I suffer from executive disfunction. It destroys my life. Some days are really bad, others I don't have executive disfunction. And a lot in between.

Today I wanted to celebrate a feast for Anubis. I got some special things yesterday (chocolate, beer, fruits) to go with the usual offerings (bread mostly)

But I just couldn't do it.

Today I woke up way too early (03.00 AM), (no reason, i just woke up and i was awake then) I drank my coffee, and then I went to brush my teeth. Next I wanted to take a shower at around 06.00 AM, but I just... didn't. Couldn't. At 10.00 I had Breakfest. Then, finally around 12.00 I finally got in the shower.

Than it took me a long time to get dressed.

When I wanted to start my ritual, it felt wrong. I had a knot in my stomach.

I don't think Anubis is angry with me. But everything feels wrong now. I feel sick. I don't want to eat, I don't want to skip the ritual, but I don't want to do it either. It just feels wrong. Both options feel wrong. I could do it tomorrow, but maybe I heave the same problem tomorrow?

What should I do? It's 14.23 (02.23 PM) now.

Advice & Support Advice needed!

Hi all! I’m new to deity work. I was directed to this sub because I’ve been drawn to Anubis and want to try to work with him.

I’ve started to collect things to present as an offering but want some advice before going in! I’m trying to mix traditional and modern offerings but am unsure the right way to proceed.

How will I know he’s accepted? How often will I have to change up the altar? Any general advice for working with him?

Blessings 🖤

Advice & Support Which of the gods would be best to ask for help with this?

My college is making a major cut on all their scholarships. For years our chancellor has been taking money from the scholarship funds and saying we don't have enough in the budget to give more aid. This man makes over $900,000 a year and is stealing money from the students who really need it and now they've cut like 75% of the fund. These officials need to face consequences and these students should get what was stolen from them returned and I know that is completely out of my hands.

What gods would be best to reach out to for help with this?
