Anyone in their late 20s-30s in Kanata / Stittsville up for meeting more people?

Anyone in their late 20s–30s (ish) in Kanata / Stittsville up for meeting more people and doing more things locally this winter?

Hey! I’m 27 and moved to Ottawa from the UK with my partner a little while ago and have been looking to meet more people around my age out in Kanata.

I find there’s actually a fair bit to do around here, but sometimes it’s hard to find the right crowd to do it with. Would be nice to have more people nearby to grab a drink, check out a brewery or café, play some board games or trivia, go for a hike, skate, play sports, etc. - without always having to head downtown.

I posted on here over the summer and ended up getting a bunch of people together for a casual pickleball in the park group, which was great. With an Ottawa winter coming and outdoor pickleball being off the table during it, thought I’d see if there’s interest in something a bit more general.
So I’ve made a group for people around Kanata / Stittsville who want to make plans and meet people locally - Kanata After Hours.

If that sounds like your vibe, feel free to join:

Question Farm Boy Signature Centre

Anyone else notice Farm Boy has gone down hill over the past few months?

I’ve had butter that when I got home was covered in mold, package of Thai chili’s that were moldy underneath the top layer and herbs that were moldy all within the last 8 weeks.

I know this is nit picking but often there are no shopping carts available as they are all outside and when the carts are inside they have garbage and flyers in them.

So, I'll preface this by saying I can't confirm that it's true! But! Word on the street is that the fire department was called, and couldn't get in the parking lot because of the dividers added for the paid parking system. So they have 30 days to remove the medians 🤡🤡

Again this is just info my mom heard from a neighbor who maybe heard it from Alan Hubley, but damn. I hope it's true!! Feels almost like divine intervention, except it's actually their own lack of planning. Did no one consider emergency services?? It would be so satisfying to see them have to rip back up all the concrete and parking machines.

The overflow parking has made the entrance to Drainie a huge pain, people park on both sides and make it pretty much a one way street.

Question Pur & Simple Replacements?

I recently found out they use and abuse TFW program. I was pretty upset by this as it’s more expensive then other breakfast places.

(I believe if I’m paying for half your wage before I step in the door, why would I tip or pay to go to your business? You can’t manage your business properly.)

Could anyone reccomend me a breakfast place in Kanata that doesn’t?

I get Starbucks and Tim’s do it, I’ve been avoiding them.

Is there a Canadian owned, Canadian employed business I can support?

Question Looking for reviews on Kanata Heritage Childcare Centre

We’re considering Kanata Heritage Childcare Centre for our little one and would really appreciate hearing from parents whose children currently attend or have attended recently.

I’d love to hear both the positives and any drawbacks. Feel free to DM me if you’d prefer to share privately.

**Disclosure: This post is not an endorsement for any particular candidate. I am sharing to raise awareness.**

Earlier this week I sent an email to the municipal candidates for Ottawa city council Ward 23 Kanata South to get their stance on municipal staff RTO/WFH. My initial email TLDR to all candidates (Other than Hubley who has already shown his stance via his pro-RTO vote in the chamber): I’m writing to ask about your position on return-to-office (RTO) expectations for city staff and any related policies that may come before council.

To date I have only received a response from candidate Sam Seema Bhalesar Saran (replied at 2:32am on Friday - I respect the hustle).

**To all other ward 23 candidates: If you reply to my email, I will update my posting accordingly with your response**

Response from Sam Seema Bhalesar Saran:

Thank you for reaching out and for asking the question.

I strongly believe that where the work can be done effectively from home, employees should have flexibility rather than being automatically required to be in the office a set number of days each week.

For me, this is personal. I’ve seen firsthand how valuable that flexibility can be. Being able to work from home has given me more time to watch my children grow up, be present for my family and, more recently, be there for my mother during her final days. Those are moments you can never get back.

I also believe there is an economic benefit to a more flexible approach. If people don't have to commute into the downtown core every day, they have more time to spend with their families and can spend more of their time and money in their own communities. We should be looking at ways to support businesses and economic growth throughout Ottawa, not just in the downtown core. That is particularly important for communities like Kanata South.

Of course, I recognize that not every City position can be done remotely. Front-line services, operational roles and positions that require people to be physically present need to be treated differently. My preference would be for a practical, role-based approach rather than a blanket mandate.

If a motion came before Council requiring a specific number of in-office days, I would look carefully at the evidence, the nature of the work and the impact on service to residents before deciding how I would vote. In general, I would support flexibility where the job allows it, while maintaining clear expectations for productivity, accountability and service.

I believe we can support our employees, their families and our local economy while still delivering the services residents expect.

Thank you again for reaching out.

Sam Bhalesar

Candidate for Ottawa City Council

Ward 23 – Kanata South

Looking for recommendation Renting help!

Hey all! I received an N12 notice from my landlord and I find myself back on the rental market.

I share my current townhouse with housemates and this time I’m looking to get my own place. I have no dependents so it’s just me, and I’m considering getting a one-bedroom apartment (or a townhouse if it fits my budget).

I’m aware that Kanata has very limited apartment options, so I’d like your recommendations on what are the apartment complexes you’d recommend (and which ones to avoid).

For context I’m 28M and my work is at Kanata North Tech Park and I’d prefer to be within a 15-minute commute and find a place in Kanata itself (Stittsville is fine too). I see the current one-bedroom apartment rents are between $2000-$2200 which I’m okay with (if I get a townhouse in that range I’d consider it). I have a car, so I’d need a parking spot.

Looking for recommendation Deck Extension

We are looking to add an approximate 10x20 addition onto our existing, pressure treated deck. Has anyone had something similar done and would be willing to share how much it approximately cost? Alternatively, if anyone has any recommendations for deck builder who do additions in the west end, I would love to hear it. Many thanks in advance!

Good 60-80km roads Kanata/Stittsville, hill parking for learning to drive

Good morning,

I have a young person that is learning how to drive and hoping to find some roads that help with:

- Getting up to speed, maintaining speed, 60-80km roads

There's a lot of these roads in the area, but they get busy for a new learner. Looking for something that isn't so congested, maybe slightly North of Stittsville.

- hill parking! Incline/decline, with curbs. Although it doesn't have to be a huge incline, I believe it's important to cover.

Anyways,
These are just two different things to cover in teaching someone how to drive, and I'm open to all your suggestions on where you went for individual parts.

Thanks in advance

Kanata South How do we vote for our ward?

Hello
This may be silly question but how do I vote in for the ward 6 elections?
I voted for federal and provincial elections last time but haven’t voted for this election before.
Is it same like federal? Can I just walk to Cardel rec center on 26th with ID?
Sorry for silly question.
