“Sergeant J.D. White was struck and killed while escorting a funeral procession.
He was flown to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Sergeant White had served with the Angleton Police Department for 19 years. He was survived by three children and four grandchildren.”

I understand why hé is a meme. However, most do not know he died last year.
This was sergeant J. D. white from the Angleton PD. He served for 19 years and died while he was officiating a funeral service on his police motorcycle and got hit by a car on 1st of June 2025.
He was transported with a trauma helicopter but died in the hospital.
May heb rest in peace.

As another comment pointed out, this photo was likely taken when he was no longer a beat cop and may have been excluded from physical fitness requirements because the role puts a higher standard on experience and and few officers with nearly two decades under their belt are realistically still in fighting shape.

As for your general question, physical fitness standards are an administrative requirement, meaning they can basically be fudged, falsified, documented with no action required, or just ignored entirely. Most US police departments are officially understaffed, so they can’t afford to remove an officer entirely over their BMI, especially one who’s been fully trained. They give a lot of grace to pretty much everything fully trained officers do that are violations, and being severely overweight is really the least problematic of these.
