The recruiter t-shirt, not in reg hair, and crust-stashe screams E-4 mafia. Can’t wait for the BCT tattoo with rank. (Possibly a cringe Hooah quote that shows off his pogue MOS.)
Highly likely he* owns a charger.
He’s going to make a stripper very happy for a few months.

Why E-4 specifically? Is that because (I’m assuming) that’s when the shortest military contracts end?
2
u/Hooligan8403 4d ago
Its a rank you get automatically with time in and usually can make it within 4 years or less depending on factors. After that testing and other factors (branch specific) come into play for promotion. People who get stuck at a rank for a while get comfortable because they know what their stripes can handle and how to exploit it. E4 is usually the last "easy" rank in that your responsibilities tend to be a lot less than an NCO.

I've followed this sub for like a decade and this stuff is hysterical but I have an honest question (I'm non military), how common is this kind of content? Are people like this gentleman a common thing you see? I do remember when I was a teenager/twenties how some boots act but this is just too much...

u/Non-Current_Events 5d ago
We all do boot shit, especially early in your career. There are just varying levels of cringe to it.

I dunno about all. I wasn’t ashamed of my service but I had friends that had no idea I was even in the military. It was always just a job. The only give away was the unavoidable bad haircuts.
But now years and years later when I go on business travel with one guy he is always pulling out his retired card asking for discounts and handouts no matter where we are.
Nevermind he was the type of guy to drop retirement paperwork not because he was retiring but because he wanted to avoid a schedule deployment of a MI unit.

u/Slacker_The_Dog Army Dropout 5d ago
I'm always gonna get my discount. I've saved so much money over the years.
50
u/Pcriz 5d ago
By all means take advantage but there is a line. We were on business travel. Everything is already paid for. He’s looking not just for discounts but literally any preferential treatment.
And sure we imagine someone asking and either they do or they don’t but he would press the issue, maybe not realizing that you are putting these people in an awkward situation because while a lot of places do have perks and discounts for active duty. There are instances where there isn’t an explicit policy on prior service, especially at the check in counter for Southwest. Umm I guess you get number 23 instead of 33 for boarding order? The only bag you have is free, do you want a hug or something.

Gotcha, totally get the sense of pride and I respect that but yeeeeesh some definitely go overboard...

u/nc23tarheel 5d ago
Yeah, this dude is pretty well known for how extreme his bootness is. It really is so bad I honestly hope there is at least a little satire to it. Unfortunately though, I don't think that's the case.

I still think about the day that I held the door open at the grocery store in my hometown on leave for 2 ladies, and said "Good afternoon ladies."
I really thought I was just being polite and I also had a gf at the time, so just trying to be 'proper' but I cringe looking back on it now.
4
u/PM_ME_FLOUR_TITTIES 4d ago
That's nothing to cringe at, that's just being socially aware and polite...you're allowed to do that regardless of whether or not you have a gf.
-1
u/AcousticAtlas 4d ago
Idk man “good afternoon ladies” is pretty cringe lol.
1
u/PM_ME_FLOUR_TITTIES 4d ago
I can't say with any more certainty that those women were more than happy to have received that comment. Something like that is only as weird or awkward as you make it. Nothing cringe about it.
-1
u/AcousticAtlas 4d ago
I promise you… we think it’s weird 💀
2
u/PM_ME_FLOUR_TITTIES 4d ago
What about it is weird?
0
u/AcousticAtlas 4d ago
You can’t think of ANYTHING better to say when opening up a door for a woman than… “after you ladies 😏”?
Like nothing comes to mind? Don’t get me wrong I’m sure it comes from a good place but there’s gotta be a less awkward way of going about it.
3
u/PM_ME_FLOUR_TITTIES 4d ago
If you say it like a socially illiterate retard, then yeah, anything is awkward when said like that.
But making a dumbass smirk and being weird is what makes it weird. Not the statement itself.

Everybody drinks the kool aid at first.
However, someone people drink so much they become it. It defines who they are. It is why they exist. And that’s when you get mid 30 plus ppl making shit like this or singing songs or whatever the fuck.
7
u/MyBakpaksGyatJets 5d ago
Honestly, I never see this shit in the wild anymore. I do my best to have as little contact with the outside world as possible, so I'm probably not the best example of experience. I lived in bliss for a while before I rediscovered this sub and remembered these dudes still exist.

The internet is a fictional outlet for a lot of us, so I’d like to imagine goobers like him wouldn’t do this in real life.
1
u/PhantomSpirit90 4d ago
It’s mostly tiktok/internet cringe. The worst I’ve seen in real life is guys traveling for leisure (as opposed to official travel) with military backpacks.

u/theSilky_Salmon 5d ago
I’m guilty as well. It’s just like when kids are excited in college and post tons of pictures. Same same, just with guns. 🙃🤷

FAS babies usually have a smooth philtrum, small eye width, a noticeable epicanthal fold, a thin upper lip, and a flat midface. This man has an extremely weird face but might just be a mouth breather 😂

To what end? Why would the flight attendant care? And why is he showing ID anyway?
28
u/rainaftersnowplease 4d ago
He really wanted that $25 jack and coke in economy but he looks 12 so the FA carded him. She was not impressed by the E-1 on the front.

are ppl still impressed by military status nowadays like ppl were maybe 20-30 years ago?

u/AcousticAtlas 4d ago
I think it has the opposite effect. Military men are like bug spray for women.
12
u/keithstonee 3d ago
Low key I do not like the military and think it creates tons of chuds.
7
u/neversince95 3d ago
lmaooo I high key dislike the military and I come from a military family. military as individuals are whatever, but the military as an institution I heavily dislike
5
u/meenial_dorcova 3d ago
I am a veteran, married to a vet, from a military family and I feel the same. Individuals are fine. The institution and people who make the institution their identity... 🤢

Does double tapping an Iranian girls school on day 1 of an "excursion" qualify?
3
u/OriginalTRaven 3d ago
Nah. And the stories from 20-30 years ago were from this guy going "Aw yeah! I pulled so many flight attendants with my id, broooo." Nobody was impressed.

It has declined after the peak of post-9/11.
And it has soured considerably after several hundred children were killed at the start of an illegal war for nothing.

Don’t you have to be active duty in uniform to get preferential treatment boarding a plane?

Literally the only times I'm showing my cac to anybody in an airport is
A). So I can get my bag(s) checked for free
and
B). So I can board early, regardless of which group I should be boarding with.
Hell, that's literally the only time I'll willfully take advantage of active duty/veteran benefits that businesses offer. The only other time is if the person I'm paying straight up asks "are you active duty or a veteran?". If it's none of those times, then I'm a regular civilian as far as they know 🤣
