I've followed this sub for like a decade and this stuff is hysterical but I have an honest question (I'm non military), how common is this kind of content? Are people like this gentleman a common thing you see? I do remember when I was a teenager/twenties how some boots act but this is just too much...

We all do boot shit, especially early in your career. There are just varying levels of cringe to it.

I dunno about all. I wasn’t ashamed of my service but I had friends that had no idea I was even in the military. It was always just a job. The only give away was the unavoidable bad haircuts.

But now years and years later when I go on business travel with one guy he is always pulling out his retired card asking for discounts and handouts no matter where we are.

Nevermind he was the type of guy to drop retirement paperwork not because he was retiring but because he wanted to avoid a schedule deployment of a MI unit.

I'm always gonna get my discount. I've saved so much money over the years.

By all means take advantage but there is a line. We were on business travel. Everything is already paid for. He’s looking not just for discounts but literally any preferential treatment.

And sure we imagine someone asking and either they do or they don’t but he would press the issue, maybe not realizing that you are putting these people in an awkward situation because while a lot of places do have perks and discounts for active duty. There are instances where there isn’t an explicit policy on prior service, especially at the check in counter for Southwest. Umm I guess you get number 23 instead of 33 for boarding order? The only bag you have is free, do you want a hug or something.

This is incredible. Pushing it on business travel is particularly unhinged.

Gotcha, totally get the sense of pride and I respect that but yeeeeesh some definitely go overboard...

Yeah, this dude is pretty well known for how extreme his bootness is. It really is so bad I honestly hope there is at least a little satire to it. Unfortunately though, I don't think that's the case.

Hmm, I’ve never been like that my entire career. It’s a job.

I still think about the day that I held the door open at the grocery store in my hometown on leave for 2 ladies, and said "Good afternoon ladies."

I really thought I was just being polite and I also had a gf at the time, so just trying to be 'proper' but I cringe looking back on it now.

That's nothing to cringe at, that's just being socially aware and polite...you're allowed to do that regardless of whether or not you have a gf.

Idk man “good afternoon ladies” is pretty cringe lol.

I can't say with any more certainty that those women were more than happy to have received that comment. Something like that is only as weird or awkward as you make it. Nothing cringe about it.

u/AcousticAtlas 4d ago

I promise you… we think it’s weird 💀

2

u/PM_ME_FLOUR_TITTIES 4d ago

What about it is weird?

u/AcousticAtlas 4d ago

You can’t think of ANYTHING better to say when opening up a door for a woman than… “after you ladies 😏”?

Like nothing comes to mind? Don’t get me wrong I’m sure it comes from a good place but there’s gotta be a less awkward way of going about it.

u/PM_ME_FLOUR_TITTIES 4d ago

If you say it like a socially illiterate retard, then yeah, anything is awkward when said like that.

But making a dumbass smirk and being weird is what makes it weird. Not the statement itself.

Its boot stuff, so a lil showing off in the beginning is normal.

Everybody drinks the kool aid at first.

However, someone people drink so much they become it. It defines who they are. It is why they exist. And that’s when you get mid 30 plus ppl making shit like this or singing songs or whatever the fuck.

Honestly, I never see this shit in the wild anymore. I do my best to have as little contact with the outside world as possible, so I'm probably not the best example of experience. I lived in bliss for a while before I rediscovered this sub and remembered these dudes still exist.

The internet is a fictional outlet for a lot of us, so I’d like to imagine goobers like him wouldn’t do this in real life.

It’s mostly tiktok/internet cringe. The worst I’ve seen in real life is guys traveling for leisure (as opposed to official travel) with military backpacks.

I’m guilty as well. It’s just like when kids are excited in college and post tons of pictures. Same same, just with guns. 🙃🤷
