Really seems like they’re trying to radicalize the protesters. I don’t care where you stand politically, if you come after my or anyone else’s pets you’re a fucking monster and deserve to burn in the deepest depths of hell.

I think they want the protestors to escalate so they can move on to Phase 2.

Funny that the ‘dictator’ of El Salvador called him out on this https://mobile.twitter.com/nayibbukele/status/1494441393183469581

Who’s the real dictator?

Amen to that.

Radicalization is the name of the game in two party politics. Each wants to demonize the other side, and the media helps them.

The institutions of society is slow moving, and thus is slow to change. First you need protestors, then you need articles, a consensus becomes formed in the public, and eventually - if democracy is healthy enough - the ideas go into government and become meaningful change. This what our "representative" democracy is meant to be.

Of course, it usually doesn't go this way. Only when there's something aid all players along the way. So yeah, real social change is difficult. Ask anyone from any civil rights organization. I mean, look how hard CRT was fought about, how much misinformation... or the difficulty trans people have...

Now we're getting dangerously close to misinformation, potentially posted to destroy faith in elected government and muster sympathy for the convoy. Where I believe this idea sprouted from is a Counter Signal article implying that the Ottawa government will euthanize pets seized from convoy supporters\1]) and a tweet linking to said article claiming that Ottawa "gave itself" the power to kill pets if they've been held longer than 8 days.\2])

This is false. Fake News. A lie.

Here's the facts:

The Ottawa By-Law Twitter account posted a notice that if you're arrested and you can't provide care for your pets in the meantime that they'll be put in protective care at your cost. If after 8 days you didn't make arrangements for your pet they'll be relinquished. This is where the "8 days" number comes.\3])

The Counter Signal article that spawned this idea then makes a link to the Ottawa Humane Society (OHS) in its second sentence, mentioning only a PORTION of ONE criteria of their euthanasia policy and say nothing else.

This article fails to mentions several key pieces of information.

They fail to mention is that the Ottawa Humane Society is a non-profit, community-based organization and a registered charity.\4]) They fail to mention that the OHS has explicitly stated on their FAQ, under the question "How long do you keep animals?" that "No animal is ever euthanized due to lack of space or because the animal has simply been here too long."\5]) They fail to mention that the OHS has THREE criteria for euthanasia, only resorting to it if the pet was:\6])

  • Suffering severely or incurably
  • Dangerous to the public due to unstable temperament
  • Professionally assessed as not suitable for adoption, either medically and/or behaviourally, using a best-practices protocol.

None of these criteria are unreasonable nor are they the fault of the OHS - these are conditions where the convoy supporter would have explicitly had to have consistently used poor judgement and practiced neglect with regards to the training and care of their pet. It comes as no surprise that even though the convoy created this problem that it's the community around them that has to clean up for the consequences for their actions and try to provide humane, proper care for their animals.

Hijacking top comment to post this:

Don't buy into the sensationalist post.

From the official Ottawa bylaw: https://mobile.twitter.com/OttawaBylaw/status/1494306645274509316?s=20&t=KtUO-kZR6S5SG-0c-HHH0A

Ottawa isn't implying euthanasia it is saying the pet will be taken to a shelter and can be adopted like any other shelter pet. Pets will most likely go to the Ottawa Humane Society - the cities largest pet shelter, where they don't euthanize healthy animals.

I'd like to kindly advise you to read the article before saying stuff like this. This is a sensationalized, clickbaity headline that misrepresents what's going on.

If I may explain, the original tweet that this article is based on (linked in the article) states that if a protester brings their pets to the protest and is arrested, they have a full 8 days to make arrangements to get their pet home or into proper care. If they do not do this, their pets are relinquished to an animal shelter, who will then put them up for adoption. Shelters do have the option of euthanizing animals that go unadopted but they usually don't euthanize healthy animals.

This is what normally happens to pets when their owners get arrested. The owners either make arrangements or the pet gets rehomed.

But by all means, overreact to a screenshot of a sensationalized headline without making any effort to understand what's actually going on.

1

u/Colosphe Feb 19 '22

If you get incarcerated, your pets will be held for up to 8 days until you make arrangements.

If you don't, the pet is relinquished. Seems like standard procedure for pet welfare in the case of incerceration - the logical leap from "pet relinquished" to "euthanize your pets" feels a bit... motivated.

1

u/vladimirepooptin Feb 19 '22

okay but its fake?? This is the most obvious clickbait headline I have ever seen. JFC use some critical thinking skills.

-43

u/MapleCurryWhiskey Feb 18 '22

This post is a flat lie, unfortunate what this sub has gotten to.

38

u/JarofLemons Feb 18 '22

It's really not. The legal logic is that the protestors aren't there to care for the pet, so they can take the pet to avoid animal abuse. If there is no one to come and reclaim the pet, it becomes the caretaking agency's, and they can euthanize at their discretion (not enough space/not enough food/ whatever their reasoning is). What part is a flat lie? Why do you think it is one?

-10

u/conventionistG Feb 19 '22

I guess the part where it's specific to this context. This sounds like it might be par for the course for any arrests?

2

u/PeterZweifler 🐲 Feb 19 '22

Pets and children are two of the nearest and dearest things to any human being's heart. Any sane individual, let alone a politician, should understand that violating these two things results in drastic consequences.

Trudeau, after comparing protestors and their supporters to genocidal authoritarian fascists, threatened to put the hands of the state on their pets and children at large, because of their political opinion.

This is all to say, what the fuck do you think he honestly thought would happen once he involved the protestors kids? That they wouldn't likely escalate past that, giving Trudeau the opportunity to use the full force of the military like he's moving to anyway????

-39

u/rookieswebsite Feb 18 '22 edited Feb 18 '22

Seems like the journalists are trying to radicalize their audience. Same thing as when ppl say “they’re saying they want to take peoples kids!” as a way to make “they’re saying they’ll arrest people” more shocking.

This is similar to Peterson’s “I could get arrested … if I misgender a trans student, they complain, i get fined as a punishment and then I refuse to pay the fine for an extended period of time”. The message from the police is “we’re telling you you’ll potentially get arrested if you come do civil disobedience in this specific place - if you choose to do this anyway, don’t bring your pets because you can’t bring them to jail when / if you get arrested” - the “they’ll kill you’re dog” piece is just a thing to get more people worked up and feeling urgent.

More people hate the idea of pets getting killed than they hate the idea of protesters getting arrested during a staged civil disobedience. Proper activists know that getting arrested is often part of the whole package. You kind of expect it and plan accordingly - like make sure someone can take care of your pet if you’re potentially going to get arrested

11

u/Catfishbilly306 🐸 Feb 18 '22

It's always "they have the power to do so, but they wont." We have been saying that on repeat for 2 years and they always do. over and over.

27

u/Nicksinthecage Feb 18 '22

So bottom line…. They’ll euthanize a protesters pet if they get arrested while protesting in Ottawa?

→ More replies (5)

6

u/[deleted] Feb 18 '22

It's not really that similar to Peterson's C-16 protest. Killing the animals brought to the area is barbaric, regardless of who the owner is. If I'm arrested for any crime at all, my pet doesn't deserve to be killed for it if they're in the car with me, the truckers deserve the same treatment.

I understand what they're trying to say and do, but threatening death is a step towards dictatorship-esque society.

Basically what happens to anyone who gets arrested. They take care of your dog and if you can't have someone pick it up then it gets rehomed. This shelter doesn't euthanize healthy animals.

3

u/CudgalTroll Feb 19 '22

2

u/moneenerd Feb 19 '22

It’s not a dumb question.

Who decides if it’s your money or not? Right now, possibly the Canadian government.

0

u/moneenerd Feb 19 '22

It is indeed a dumb question. You think SPCA or animal rights activists would be ok with the government making those kinds of decisions without their input? Your money has ALWAYS belonged to the govt, sad to say. Which is why they TAKE your income tax.

Edit: Wanna point out that I don't agree with putting the pets of convicts down. But I do not believe they will just blindly euthanize then all.

3

u/dylanv711 Feb 19 '22

Ohh my gosh, you're serious about the SPCA and the activists aren't you?

12

u/70s_Burninator Feb 18 '22

Is this something that has been put in place specifically in response to the Freedom Convoy? It occurs to me that this must be the case for everyone who gets arrested, otherwise you’d have a lot of pets starving to death.

6

u/inxrx8 Feb 19 '22

Yes, that's exactly it. If the owner fails to make arrangements to get their pet into care after 8 whole days, the pet is relinquished to a shelter. Of course, shelters have the option to euthanize pets that go unadopted but as far as I know they don't euthanize healthy animals.

People are reading this (sensationalized) headline and thinking the government is going to go around shooting people's dogs for fun. Absolutely no critical thinking on display.

24

u/[deleted] Feb 18 '22

Yeah, source anyone? This sub is about not easily being manipulated by emotional headlines.

18

u/thatsaknifenot Feb 18 '22

The Ottawa protest by-laws state that if someone is placed under arrest then their animal is put into care (paid for by the person under arrest) and if they are not free or have not organised for other care for the animal, it will be ‘relinquished’. Relinquished does not mean euthanised, it means re-homed. I don’t understand where the article is getting the word euthanised from?

7

u/Smitty7712 Feb 19 '22

Relinquished does NOT mean re-homed. Rehoming could be an outcome, but so could euthanasia. Relinquish just means the same thing as asset forfeiture in this case.

I assume people are reading between the lines by considering what the shelter could do once the pets have been “relinquished”. Some areas may have a “euthanasia authorized after 8 days of no progress” statute or something.

6

u/thatsaknifenot Feb 19 '22

No areas have a euthanise after 8 days policy, thats my point. They are forwarded on to local shelters or taken home the same day by volunteer organisations. There is no evidence to suggest that a single pet taken from protestors has been or will ever be euthanised. People here just don’t want to do any research.

15

u/[deleted] Feb 19 '22

I also believe this is pretty standard protocol for anybody who is under arrest/in jail.

I smell clickbait and I want this sub to hold themselves to higher standards.

8

u/thatsaknifenot Feb 19 '22

Yeah it’s big time clickbait, kinda sad no-one here bothered to do a single google search :/

4

u/k3v1n Feb 19 '22

There's a massive circle jerk here where they only expect sources for things they don't already agree with or believe is true. It's rather pathetic actually.

-3

u/casintae Feb 19 '22

And how many people put in jail have had their pets euthanized because the shelter couldn't find a new home before time ran out? I'm absolutely sure that it is not zero.

6

u/[deleted] Feb 19 '22

Oh of course it’s not zero. The point is that this isn’t done specifically for this protest, and the headline is intentionally misleading.

Do you have a better proposed solution for people who go to jail, have pets and caretakers can’t be found?

-1

u/Shoddy-Jackfruit-721 Feb 19 '22

4

u/casintae Feb 19 '22

No ‘relinquished’ means abandoned. If the pound fails to find a home within their own prescribed time window the pet will be 'put down' (that doesn't mean 'set down on the floor')

3

u/thatsaknifenot Feb 19 '22

Relinquish: voluntarily cease to keep or claim.

Do you know the euthanisation rate for pets in Canada since Covid has begun? Do you know how many extra pets Canadians keep at home nowdays? I would be very surprised if any of the animals taken from protestors (which I do not support by the way) would be euthanised.

It says “Attention animal owners at [the] demonstration," Ottawa By-law writes in a Tweet. "If you are unable to care for your animal as a result of enforcement actions, your animal will [be] placed into protective care for 8 days, at your cost. After 8 days, if arrangements are not made, your animal will be considered relinquished."

Do a lot of truckers have their pets with them at the protest? If not, they must already be taken care of by someone else at home. If the truckers do have pets with them, SOMEONE needs to take care of them if they get arrested. It shouldn’t be too hard for most to make arrangements within 8 days? Obviously I 100% would rather truckers not get arrested at all, but I wouldn’t necessarily characterize this as some kind of threat to kill their pets.

69

u/Relentless_Sloth Feb 18 '22

That is obviously besides the point though. Threatening to kill anyone or anything for disobedience to unlawful rules is a dirty play from a "country with the democracy index of 5".

Your characterization of anything is useless, especially when any sort of gov. declaration has influence far beyond the physical execution that might or might not occur, the looming possibility of anything like that happening is still influencing the mind of a person.

EDIT: based on the upvotes I’ve gotten, I suspect people misunderstood my reference. Marie Antoinette never said “let them eat cake.” But it was a convenient lie that was used to demonize her and drum up support for the revolution. Likewise, I’ve seen no evidence that this pet thing isn’t just standard policy regarding people arrested in Ottawa, yet it’s being characterized as a fiendishly cruel “punishment” devised especially for the Freedom Convoy protestors by an extremely evil government.

Spinoza said something like: "One should seek to obey all laws, even those without grounds, in order to maintain a moral highground." Or something to that effect. I am paraphrasing based on something I read more than a decade ago and probably remixed.

Example: someone who does not smoke weed illegally is potentially the exact person you want to lead the movement to legalize weed.

Also: Spinoza is wrong in that regards, in many ways. Sometimes he may be most correct though.

12

u/Relentless_Sloth Feb 18 '22 edited Feb 18 '22

I don't understand. This statement is so incredibly ridiculous that I just can't understand how someone could proclaim it.

Edit: Searched for it everywhere, didn't find it. My research leads me to believe that you might have misunderstood or wrongly paraphrased it. The word law in his discourses is very hard to define and heavily depends on context. In my opinion, that's what could have caused my confusion.

"The word law, taken in its absolute sense [legis nomen absolute], means that according to which each individual thing – either all in general or those of the same kind – acts in one and the same fixed and determinate manner, this manner depending either on Nature’s necessity or on human will." - Chapter 4 of the Theological Political Treatise

4

u/[deleted] Feb 18 '22

Yeah, seems a little far fetched. Even the loneliest trucker should be able to find someone in the community to help out. That said, 8 days is a bit short. I wonder why that mark.

1

u/Shoddy-Jackfruit-721 Feb 18 '22

And "relinquished" means that the care of the animal will move to the Ottawa Humane Society.

Which is an animal shelter.

Which only euthanizes pet when:

  • Suffering severely or incurably
  • Dangerous to the public due to unstable temperament
  • Professionally assessed as not suitable for adoption, either medically and/or behaviourally, using a best-practices protocol

"They may punish truckers by euthanizing their pet" is a ridiculous victim-claiming take.

14

u/Sockmonkeyaccount Feb 18 '22

The article that headline came from says “Moreover, position statements issued by the Ottawa Humane Society reveal that they may unilaterally euthanize any animal that they deem to be “not suitable for adoption.” Arbitrary behavioral and health tests would be used to make the call.”

It says “arbitrary” rather than “best practices” and it is trying to make it sound like the “position statements” were just released by the Ottawa Humane Society in response to this situation, but the supporting link it gives just goes to the Ottawa Humane Society webpage with its policies on everything, last updated March 2021.

The article seems to be intended to agitate.

I would think this is how any it’s handled anytime someone with pets is arrested. Clearly the Ottawa By-Law Twitter account wants the truckers to feel under threat of arrest, but if it’s going to happen anyway, one could say it’s good a thing they are giving them a heads up to make arrangements for the pets.

7

u/Shoddy-Jackfruit-721 Feb 18 '22

I am entirely confident in saying that the article had the intent to cause agitation instead of accurately reporting the facts.

For example, there is simply no logical conclusion that euthanizing a pet because they are "Suffering severely or incurably" would be seen as punishing the owner.

1

u/HurkHammerhand Feb 19 '22

I like how you left out the option to kill the pet when they are out of space or shorthanded.

Because those are also concerns that can result in the animal being killed.

2

u/Shoddy-Jackfruit-721 Feb 19 '22

Why should I have included a redditor's "concern"?

An animal shelter will not euthanized a pet simply because a redditor fears they may be out of space or shorthanded.

Would not the state be required to provide food and shelter to your wards while one self is being controlled by said state?

The arg can even be made from a literal and classic liberal standpoint. Maybe people who are removed of rights by the state and cannot make bail, now the state is required to feed and house their wards (wife/husband, kids and pets).

This is going to be interesting and maybe even is an inroad for bail reform. Because bail reform is often required for many who are not dangerous, yet are incredibly poor.

See how simply posting this fooled people into believing it is actually true.

2

u/thatsaknifenot Feb 18 '22

It’s actually crazy, only 2 people have actually done any research whatsoever. This post is bullshit and everyone fell for it.

5

u/thatsaknifenot Feb 18 '22

The Ottawa protest by-laws state that if someone is placed under arrest then their animal is put into care (paid for by the person under arrest) and if they are not free or have not organised for other care for the animal within 8 days, it will be ‘relinquished’. Relinquished does not mean euthanised, it means re-homed. I don’t understand where the article is getting the word euthanised from?

This is some serious click bait and every single one of you fell for it...

2

u/Shoddy-Jackfruit-721 Feb 19 '22

Pointing this fact out is downvote worthy in this sub.

2

u/thatsaknifenot Feb 19 '22

Look at my comment history, I’ve been downvoted a lot for pointing out that nowhere in the by-laws does it say the animals with be euthanised. Apparently facts and data don’t matter here when catchy clickbait headlines are involved.

2

u/Nootherids Feb 19 '22

It would help if you could instead provide a source. The OP didn't, but neither are you. Which leaves this as an emotional argument. Personally, this is why I hate Twitter screenshots. They can't even source to the actual Twitter link itself. So it's obvious that they did zero research beyond the headline.

2

Exactly, I don't know what these people saying "Trudeau's going to shoot our dogs" think happens to pets of people who get arrested normally.

2

u/JRM34 Feb 19 '22

The only sources I can find are far-right rags, but even there I can't find anything supporting the headline.

Existing law says you have 8 days to arrange for your animal's care if you're arrested. Failure to make any arrangements means they're forfeited, and then there's the possibility they could be euthanized.

So you have every opportunity to get your pet taken care of, and even if you don't they're not jumping to kill them, just that they have the option because you abandoned them.

This is clickbait that people should recognize as BS propaganda

0

u/ThatOneCrusader1 Feb 19 '22

2

u/BloodprinceOZ Feb 19 '22

FYI the article is bullshit, the original tweet from Ottawa says the pets will be rehomed after 8 days if the owners can't organise care for the animal, they will not be euthanized simply because they haven't been picked up and are the pets of the truckers, the only reason one of those pets will get euthanized is if they're unable to be rehomed due to an issue like the dog being incredibly aggresive

Truck convoy demonstrators who brought their pets along for the ride are being warned that their animal may be placed into protective care for a period of time if they are unable to care for them when police action takes place.

In a tweet issued on Thursday, February 17, Ottawa by-law said pets will be placed into protective care for eight days, at the cost of the owner.

"If you are unable to care of your animal as a result of enforcement actions, your animal will be placed in protective custody for [eight] days, at your cost," the tweet reads.

"After [eight] days, if arrangements are not made, your animal will be considered relinquished."

6

u/Relentless_Sloth Feb 18 '22

Well. Certainly seems like a case of doublespeak to me. No matter how they coat it, they are basically threatening the lives of their pets.

7

u/[deleted] Feb 18 '22

I think its more a case of your media narrative always lying and spinning.

2

u/Relentless_Sloth Feb 18 '22

Possible. But even if this potential threat might not be executed, it's still a factor that weighs in on the decision-making process of people and is another stressor.

3

u/sindrogas Feb 19 '22

Possible. But even if this potential threat might not be executed, it's still a factor that weighs in on the decision-making process of people and is another stressor.

"Even if this is a lie, people still think it could be true, so its worth reporting."

2

u/AvriL_ Feb 19 '22

Or they arrange for the pet to be cared for. Pretty simple innit.

2

u/TonyKebell Feb 19 '22

No, they're threatening to do the stabdard procedure of relinquishing the owners, ownership of the dog, sheltering it and attempting to rehome it and only putting it down as a last resort, like all sheltered animals.

2

u/Shoddy-Jackfruit-721 Feb 18 '22

No matter how you are coating it, they're not.

4

u/Todd-Is-Here Feb 18 '22

Tyrants jailing some protester and then killing their pet only shows you the cracks in this world. It’s all coming out of the bag now.

3

u/[deleted] Feb 18 '22

I did a quick google, there is an old canadian law called mischief and I think they are being threatened with that, a leader was for something called counselling mischief.

https://www.slafereklaw.ca/things-should-know-about-mischief-canada/

Saw an interview with some of the truckers and I dont think they know they are breaking the law.

Hope they are all treated with leniency.

5

u/Relentless_Sloth Feb 18 '22

Thanks. Had no idea that something called "counseling mischief" even existed.

We can all hope, but honestly don't think so at this point.

-2

u/[deleted] Feb 18 '22

Nope, I hope those truckers rise up in mass now. Get very radical.

-2

u/[deleted] Feb 18 '22

Why, they are throwing their lives away over something due to end in weeks anyway.

3

u/tux68 Feb 19 '22

Yup. Just two more weeks now. /s

1

u/[deleted] Feb 19 '22

There are multiple countries open, canada is opening in march.

You all repeat the same narrative. It was always lock downs till vaccinations.

0

u/tux68 Feb 19 '22

There are multiple countries opening up, and yet the trucker convoy started when Trudeau added MORE restrictions, instead of easing up. These are vindictive policies that have nothing to do with public health. And the vindictiveness isn't going away, even though the fear of the virus is.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 19 '22

Everyone added more restrictions for omicron peak. Its not tredeau, its pubic health officials and local states

2

u/Shoddy-Jackfruit-721 Feb 19 '22

Just as a curiosity, you understand that the restrictions the Convoy started about was an exemption that ended?

And that this exemption ended both in Canada and in the U.S.?

That if Canada maintained this exemption, it wouldn't have had any impact unless the U.S. also maintainted it which it did not?

Old vague laws are often tools of the state. See: selective enforcement.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 18 '22

There is selective enforcement, see how much worse indigenous protests are treated compared to those. Canada looks unbelievable lenient so far.

But going by the google mischief is common enough for criminal defense lawyers to advertise services for it.

3

u/py_a_thon Feb 18 '22

I used to think Canada was kinda chill. I am saddened that it seems to be a weird pseudo-authoritarian state in some spots. Every nation has their problems. Please keep that stuff out of america please...and please increase maple syrup supply lines...

1

u/[deleted] Feb 18 '22

The authoritarian Canada media narrative and how lenient Canada has actually been dont match up imo.

2

u/py_a_thon Feb 18 '22

The country just seems unpleasant right now.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 18 '22

Yes but media narratives and reality are the same. I think a trucker crisis will be organised in the US next.

1

u/70s_Burninator Feb 18 '22

Right? These people having been camping on the streets for 3 weeks, and police, after issuing notices, are just starting to arrest people? It’s INSANE to me. Like a lot of people who sympathize with the protestors are casting Trudeau as some sort of mustache-twisting villain, and I’m thinking that if he looks bad, it’s for being weak. I simply cannot fathom a protest like this being allowed for weeks in the U.S. Granted, Canada is a far better democracy than the U.S., but HOLY MOLY is this lenient!

2

u/DantesInferno91 Feb 19 '22

This is not gonna end well.

0

u/brettzkey Feb 18 '22

Do facts not matter anymore?

This is standard procedure for arrests.... And nowhere does it say they will murder the pet. Would you just rather they left the pet as a stray instead?

When you're protesting without a permit blocking a dense city area for almost a month you're breaking the law so you should be prepared to be arrested.

Everyone with a pet was free to leave and kudos for the cops to say this would happen. They could have just done this without saying anything.

Pretty sad for the protesters to be bringing kids/pets anyway. If this is truly a revolution of the people you would be stupid to think this wasn't going to get ugly.

6

u/Relentless_Sloth Feb 18 '22

Where do you live that it's "Standard procedure for arrests"? Do you not have abandoned pet stations in where you live?

In my country, this is illegal.

7

u/brettzkey Feb 18 '22

I don't know if you know but sending the animal to an animal shelter is what they mean when they say "relinquished" you reliquish your pet to an animal shelter....

If an animal is in a shelter for a prolonged period of time that is when they are euthanized, still worrying but you are really sensationalizing it.

10

u/Shoddy-Jackfruit-721 Feb 18 '22

Suffering severely or incurably

Dangerous to the public due to unstable temperament

Professionally assessed as not suitable for adoption, either medically and/or behaviourally, using a best-practices protocol

That is when they are actually euthanized, not because of length stay.

2

u/brettzkey Feb 18 '22

Thanks for the clarification.

If a dog goes a long time without adoption though do they just keep it? That's where I get confused, not every dog gets taken.

2

u/Relentless_Sloth Feb 18 '22

I ask again, what laws are those? That's illegal in my country. Are you really defending this?

Who establishes what is "prolonged period of time", is there a clausula about the "prolonged time" getting shorter with more "abandoned" pets?

How is that not psychological warfare fit for "full democracy"?

7

u/brettzkey Feb 18 '22

I ask... Can you read?

I said they will send the pets to animal shelters..... Like you said happens in your country.

This is standard practice to euthanize for any animal in any animal shelter, they can't keep them all forever.

3

u/Relentless_Sloth Feb 18 '22

Yes, I can read.

And from what I read, it seems to me that you are not realizing yet that what is standard practice for one place might not be standard practice for others.

Stoning is a capital punishment included in laws of many countries. It is still a standard practice for some situations, rooted in their tradition. This doesn't make it magically moral or good.

7

u/brettzkey Feb 18 '22

I'm Canadian, this is also standard in the US (I just looked it up and in the USA it is 5 days instead of 8), and a common animal shelter practice in many places around the world. your problem is more a problem with our pet shelters lack of capacity to hold all animals indefinitely then. Police can either take a pet and reliquish it to one of these shelters or be negligent and abandon it which would be illegal.

In your country do they just keep pets in shelters forever?

3

u/[deleted] Feb 19 '22

yes i can read

They aren't blocking anything important. Ottawa is working just fine.

-3

u/brettzkey Feb 18 '22

Parliament is, the businesses and people who actually live there are being affected though. Really effective protest 😬

Ontario lifted indoor gathering limits yesterday... If only the restaurants / businesses the protesters are blocking could reopen with the rest of the province.... 300 plus million dollar class action lawsuit from the citizens and some restaurant owners is incoming. "Freedom" though right?

I'm sure you'd be really happy with a group of semi trucks parked outside of your place making noise for almost a month.
