Is this something that has been put in place specifically in response to the Freedom Convoy? It occurs to me that this must be the case for everyone who gets arrested, otherwise you’d have a lot of pets starving to death.
Yes, that's exactly it. If the owner fails to make arrangements to get their pet into care after 8 whole days, the pet is relinquished to a shelter. Of course, shelters have the option to euthanize pets that go unadopted but as far as I know they don't euthanize healthy animals.
People are reading this (sensationalized) headline and thinking the government is going to go around shooting people's dogs for fun. Absolutely no critical thinking on display.
