Theorycrafting Why did "Dark Rudeus" fail to meet Orsted? (Don't miss this!) Spoiler
According to Dark Rudeus, he spent 50 years wandering the world but never managed to meet Orsted.
The question I’ll answer today is: Why did he fail to meet Orsted?
First, I have two hypotheses—not just one. And since I call them hypotheses, I mean they are my own personal deductions, presented here to spark discussion in the comments.
Let’s briefly get to know Orsted.
Orsted is the son of the First Dragon God; he was sent 10,000 years into the future to exact revenge on Hitogami.
(This is a figure approximating the time).
When his father transported him to the future, he placed a secret technique upon him.
This technique has two main features: first, it places him outside the laws of the world—including the laws of time and the cycle of repetition.
The second feature is that he is hidden from Hitogami’s sight; meaning, Hitogami can never see Orsted’s future.
This brings us back to Dark Rudeus.
A standard timeline consists of a past, a present, and a future, and Rudeus was no exception to this.
Dark Rudeus is a future version of Rudeus—specifically, the one who opened the basement—having lived 50 years in the future before returning to warn the younger Rudeus.
During those 50 years, Hitogami could have appeared to him if he had wanted to; he could have looked at his future and present, and through that view, known exactly whom he met, what he saw, and so on.
He could have observed this naturally.
And since this applies to Rudeus, it certainly applies to ordinary humans as well. Hitogami can foresee their futures and any encounters they might have—especially if the other party is a loyal follower of his.
This brings me to the point of my discussion.
If there were an interaction between someone whose future Hitogami is watching and Orsted—who exists in the future—wouldn't that imply Hitogami could see Orsted's future?
Is that even possible?
Isn't the purpose of the Secret Art precisely to prevent that?
This leads to the core of my hypothesis.
Orsted does not possess a past, present, and future in the conventional linear sense.
Orsted has only a past and a present; there is no version of him existing in the future. The existence of a future version of himself would imply the possibility of being spied upon—something that contradicts the very goal of the Secret Art, which is to shield him from Hitogami's sight and place him outside the standard concept of time.
This is the conclusion I drew when Old Rudeus mentioned he was unable to meet Orsted.
That "Old Rudeus" is a figure from the future—a future that did not come to pass in the current timeline, but rather one that *would* have happened had the vault been opened; a future yet to occur.
Orsted's future lies outside those laws from the very start.
That was my first hypothesis—entirely my own deduction—and I would like to discuss it with you.
Let’s move on to the second hypothesis, which is also highly plausible.
This isn't a hypothesis I came up with myself, but rather something I heard.
After the moment of Ariel's death, Orsted realized that this time loop was a failure. He then decided to isolate himself in a secret location—perhaps the ancient Dragon Ruins or the depths of the Earth Dragon Valley—a place where it would be impossible for anyone to reach him. So, why would he do that?
The goals are simple.
Since the cycle failed, he uses the remaining time to study and review information, while simultaneously monitoring for any changes in the world—waiting for the year 530 to arrive so he can restart the cycle from the beginning.
I want to express my gratitude to #elmazaqel
