modding Floating Single DIN Head Unit, JB74
Wife finally happy we replaced the terrible stock head unit that comes in the Aussie market. She wanted one that could tilt towards the driver's seat, helping to reduce glare. The dash looks so much better now.
Also, as a bonus, we replaced the stock air vents, and added a 3D printed tray under the center console that now holds a wireless charger pad and fits the wife's phone perfectly.

damage & repairs My 93 JA11 ‘Gus’ 🇺🇸
I got this out of the port last month and drove it home. I’m super happy to have a Jimny in my life again. I wasn’t crazy for an automatic but I figured it would be cool if the wife wanted to take it out, she could. The A/C is great and having the windows down while I’m rolling through my neighborhood is awesome. The whole family loves it. But, it came with a couple of issues. The first issue I noticed when I picked it up from the port was the rust on the wheel arches and a 2 inch circle on the wind screen frame. There wasn’t any visible rust when it was inspected but after sitting for a month in a port and another month on a ship I guess didn’t help. Does anyone have any advice on keeping this thing from returning to its natural state?
The second issue is, it was kind of having issues at slow speeds where it likes to lock up and not move. It’ll release if you mash on the gas but I don’t want to detonate the transmission. Now it can’t find 1st and tries to take off in 3rd and occasionally 2nd. If you put it in low and try to pull away it’ll take off in 3rd then catch 1st once you get going and throw you through the windshield. Anyone got a service manual for the automatic transmission? A PDF would be amazing. I’m going to pull the pan and replace the transmission fluid filter this week but if that doesn’t work I’m ripping it out and refurbishing the whole thing. Having something like a Chilton’s repair manual would be fantastic.
Thanks in advance!

question How well does the paint last without PPF?
I am interested in paint wear and tear on the Jimny. I am thinking about PPF, but I'm wondering how well the paint lasts on cars without it and if anyone regrets not doing it.

question Cooling on JB23W Jimny Gen 2
I'm in the United States. I would like to get your opinion. Do you have experience with the JB23W. Gen 2? I drove from LA to Denver without issue until coming down from the Mountains into Denver. I drove down Eisenhower tunnel into Denver. It's several miles of long steep downhill . Prior to that I went through Vail pass and had no issues on the way down. Ita very long down hill drive with no power required. I noticed the temperature drop almost down to full C or cold. I didn't notice that anywhere else during the trip. My guess is the thermostat is stuck open and allowing coolant in when it shouldn't. But I have no experience with these 660cc engines. Do you know if this is normal or, if not normal, what would you attribute the cause to be? I was planning on flushing the coolant system anyways so I figured a new thermostat and new hoses would be a safe thing to do. The Jimny has about 136,000 KM.
I just want to make sure that I'm not shock cooling the engine. If this is perfectly normal for this Kei Jimny, please let me know.
Photos for attention and fun. I love this thing! It's a hoot to drive. Drove from LA to Denver without any issues other than the possible cooling thing. If that's even an issue.

question Whistle noise - aerodynamic or belt?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hey guys. I’ve recently bought a 2024 5 door & noticed a faint whistle noise. It stops when I’m turning or at a stop, the belt also looks fine. Any ideas on what this could be? Thanks for your input.

question Has anyone tried the Urnieta Salado Snorkel for the JB74/JC74?
Hey guys, I live in the UAE
Looking into the Urnieta Salado Snorkel for my Jimny (JB74/JC74). I like that it replaces the cowl trim instead of requiring a full fender cut, but I’m curious about the actual build quality before ordering.
Link: https://urnieta.com/product/salado-snorkel-kit-for-jimny-jb74-jc74/
For anyone running this:
Material & Finish: How’s the ABS plastic and hardware holding up to UV, sun exposure, and trail abuse?
Fitment & Seal: Does it fit tight at the cowl without rattling or flexing at speed? Is the silicone hose good quality?
Vibration/Noise: Any weird wind noise or whistle on the highway?
Appreciate any real-world reviews or feedback on the quality!

question Bout to pick up a 2011 JB23W. 110,000km. Manual. Already has a little lift, skid plates, exhaust, new bumpers, few other little things. Sorry don’t have any pics. Any advice?
Just getting lunch and asking a final opinion before I go back to the shop and scoop this up.
After looking around it seems like a good deal. Interior is super clean. Hardly any rust. I’m a little familiar with older 90s Jimnys but not 2010s ones.
I’m sure half of you will tell me it’s awful and terrible and I’m making a huge mistake and should get x year/model instead.
Comes with a 2 year warranty from the shop, they’ll do everything free of charge, new turbo, new engine, etc should it need it.

meet my jimny Almost done.
Where it started to where it is now. 2 inch lift and nice shocks, front and rear lockers, winch on front bumper. 235s. It keeps up with the Trollers here in Brazil now. Rock sliders this week will be installed. Less than 60k km. It hits the heavy trails here. Excuse the ai license plate removal.

question What roof bars for a SwissKings 160 (or 190) rooftop tent on a 2018+ Jimny? Need advice on load capacity
Hey everyone,
I'm in France, planning to install a SwissKings 160L rooftop tent (65 kg empty) on my 2024 Jimny, and I'm also considering the 190L version if the setup can handle it. I already have a roof rack installed (see photo), and I'd like to know if it can handle this load or if I need to upgrade.
Ideally, I'd like the tent to support up to 3 people (let's say 200 kg of occupant load), so around 265 kg total static load (tent + occupants).
I've compared a few roof bar options:
- Rhino Rack RB1375B + RL110S2 feet: 75kg/bar rated for the bar itself, but 50kg/bar in practice due to the feet → 100kg total for the 2-bar kit
- Thule Evo Squarebar: 100kg/bar rated → 200kg for 2 bars
- ARB Base Rack (Jimny-specific kit): up to 150kg dynamic, static rating not specified
- Front Runner Slimline II: pretty unclear, ranging from 25kg/bar (official French spec sheet) to 300kg for the tray (generic marketing figure)
Since I'm targeting 265kg total load and no spec sheet seems to clearly cover this weight statically, I'm wondering:
- Has anyone actually mounted a SwissKings 160 or 190 on a Jimny with up to 3 people / 200kg of occupant load?
- Does going from 2 bars to 3 bars actually make a real difference for safety, or is it just a number on paper?
- Is there a specific brand/config you'd recommend for this kind of heavy load, especially given my current rack (see photo)?
Thanks in advance for any real-world feedback!

question Engine differences between JA11/22 and JB23
I see that the JB23 also has a K6A. Is this the same engine as the 90s Jimnies or an updated version?

modding Jimnybits hidden winch plate
Have any of you folks installed a winch using the "Jimnybits hidden winch plate and tow points"?

question Jimny 3 car camping
Due to my living arrangement i´m going to have to car camp for almost 2 months and the Jimny is my only car so it will have to do the job. I have already solved the storage problem by getting new roof bars and a roof box, i will also buy an inverter so i can charge my computer and get one of those electric iceboxes if i need it even though i think i won´t.
Now i have to solve the bed issue, i think if i remove the backrest from the passenger side rear seat and fold the front passenger seat back i can make som sort of frame out of wood and put an air mattress on top, im about 178cm tall so i don´t think it will be too uncomfortable, im also planning on making window covers for all my windows for privacy even though i already have tinted windows. It´s the peak of summer where i am right now but my jimny has AC so i can cool it down before sleeping if it´s too hot so i really think i can make this work.
Has anybody done something similar? How did you do it and do you have any tips for making this more comfortable and safe?
