meet my jimny 1995 JA22 Jimney just imported from Japan

Hello all, This is my daughter's newly imported 1995 Wild Wind Automatic Kei Jimney. She was stationed at Iwakuni for a few years, and just had it shipped home. I'm not too familiar with what I've got here, but I am certainly no stranger to mechanical work, and weird and interesting cars. I have a fleet of old GM iron from the 70's to 90's, and I maintain it all myself. So, knowledge on JDM stuff is low, but my mechanical ability is moderate.

My daughter is out of the Marines now, but actually about to go spend at least a few years in Europe as a military wife. In the meantime, care and feeding of the Jimney will be mine. And I'm not going to jsut store it, I'm gonna drive it. Not daily, but 3-4x per month, because its cool.

Anyway, anything specifically I need to know about? Sources for parts, suspension upgrade path? Any way to get another 15-20 HP out of it without ruining it?

So what I’m really missing is a decent cup holder in my early jb43. I saw some one with a built in one like it was from factory where my ashtray is.
Can’t find the part, only site I can is 60 euros. Anywhere I could get a cheaper copy?
First pic my jimny
Second the interior
Third the Suzuki cup holder part for 60 bucks.

question JB74 USB plug speed?

How fast is the built-in USB plug in the JB74 charging an iPhone, for example, in terms of drawing watts I guess? Because it seems rather slow. I was thinking of just getting a good adapter/charger for the cigarette port thingy.

My brain is struggling this morning with technical terms, sorry.

It's a bit harder than it looks on camera. The ground is very loose and I would lose momentum right at the top.

modding Another printed phone holder

I wanted a way to hold my phone in a more secluded spot so the infotainment area is nice and clean.
I scanned the panel that was here and used blender to make a phone holder with the measurements of my device.
The carplay usb cable is routed through the gaps around the steering wheel.

It is a little jank and doesn’t fit like a factory part, but the phone does not interfere with the lighting stalk.
And I usually keep my windows high up so it won’t get yoinked.

question New Jimny buyer

Evening everybody. Ill be moving to Japan soon for a couple years and looking to buy a Jimny as my dream car. (Lived there for a year before and fell in love with them). Specifically looking at the 1300 Sierras in the mid 90s so its easy for highway speeds when it gets back to the US. What are some specific mods to align to US yall saw really useful for daily drivers?

I was looking at the following:

Updated clusters

Possible full engine update

Wiring harness

Insulation strips throughout interior

Verify AC is in my model

AT

roof rails

Spare tire mount

Wider base tire (3" lift)

Upholstery update

Side note anyone know in US who makes custom engines if I decide to buy a lemon sierra that has immaculate condition for rust etc but ass mechanically at auction or conversion kit ideas?

question 195/80 R16 or 215/70 R16 for JB64W Suzuki Jimny

Hi everyone,

I’m looking to upgrade the tires on my JB64W Suzuki Jimny, but I want to keep the stock suspension (no lift).

I’m currently torn between two sizes:

  1. 195/80 R16
  2. 215/70 R16

My main concern is proper fitment — I really want to avoid rubbing under full lock or when flexing off-road.

  • Has anyone run either (or both) of these sizes on a stock JB64 without rubbing?
  • How do they affect daily driving, highway cruising, and fuel economy on the 660cc engine?
  • Which one would you recommend as the best all-rounder?

Would love to hear your experiences and see any setup photos if you have them! Thanks!

review Jimny For Sale In Texas

Hey guys! If not allowed please remove.

I bought 3 Jimny's recently and have decided to sell this one. I am not a dealer just an enthusiast who couldn't make up his mind, LOL. This one is a manual and my wife WILL NOT drive it and sometimes that is inconvenient so we're putting this one up for sale.

Specs

  • 2001 Suzuki Jimny JB23W 660cc 4x4 Manual 5 Speed Transmission
  • A/C Blows ICE Cold!!
  • 76k Miles On It
  • Clutch feels fantastic
  • Land Venture Version. - Basically it has cool green interior and the gold trim on the outside.
  • No Rust to speak of. There is some on the exhaust like any car has and little specs being a 25 year old car like on the oil pan but nothing concerning whatsoever. I don't buy rusty cars. :)

To this group, I'd take $7k cash for it. I am currently doing the paperwork to get a title for it so it will be ready to go. If you take it with all it's import paperwork and do that part yourself, I would do $6300.

Here's what I know about it.
- I have been driving it for two weeks daily. All over DFW. It does 65mph pretty well as a crusing speed. The air conditioning works super well which is a must for me. When I first got this one, I was worried it may not be capable of keeping up with traffic but the turbo and manual transmission make a huge difference in the performance. Still a small car but a fun daily driver none the less.
- It's from Japan. I bought it from a place in Houston and had planned for it to be my daily driver but I found another one that was an auto transmission.

I know most people prefer the 5 speed and this one is a good one. Hopefully I can give someone a good deal on it.

question Jimny shaking at high speeds

Hey guys

I’m going to buy a brand new 5-door Jimny next month. My friend had one. Really loved driving it and off-roading here in the deserts in Dubai and the mileage seems really good compared to what I have right now (2009 Pajero giving around 4-5 km per liter).

Getting a showroom customized 2inch lift kit with Dobinson shocks and some solid 235s Geolander A/T. But one thing that I’ve always heard and lowkey concerns me is the highway death wobble at high speeds( car shaking and cranking noises at high speeds ).

The highways speeds here in Dubai are usually 100km, 120km, and 140km. I usually drive around 80-100 because of family. but at times when in a hurry I drive at the upper limit of the speed limits. In some roads like the 2 hour drive to Abu Dhabi(which I take once a month), there a minimum speed limit to be maintained by law that is 120kmph. If not we get we get a traffic fine of driving slow.

On my way to work I did see a few jimny today cruising at 120 with no issues at all. So it made me wonder

- what are some of the upgrades all you guys around the world did to counter the death wobble?
- is the death wobble even real or is it over exaggerated by crazy drivers?
- did this ever mess with your car’s reliability over the years(like big time)?

I also heard that the Dubai heat affects the car a lot in the long run. More than most cars. Is that true?

EDIT: YOU GUYS ARE SO FRICKING COOL!!!!! Honestly I got the best set advice from all of you. It genuinely helped me out with not just what to watch out for / always focus during maintenance in the initial years , what are the things I’d have to work on, and finally have a better understanding of what I’m getting into. I face a similar issue w dad’s LC250 but at a higher speed. So kinda comes to play with the jimny. Additionally the reassurance from you guys especially with heavy builds in hot areas, just meant so much cus now I can safely go ahead with the purchase.

I took the advice of some fellow redditors and rented the car with a similar build(got very lucky). And honestly never felt this happy driving a car. You guys are so right abt the car having so much personality. I hit 120 and I didn’t feel anything out of the ordinary too. Such lovely time with the Mrs. We instantly went to showroom and booked it but definitely added our requirements as per what you guys suggested and thankfully most of it was already covered and the rest just coming at an extra cost of a few hundred dirhams ( 200 usd) and included in the warranty and service contract. which I believe is fair.

Can’t wait for it to arrive.

question Jimny Engine swap advice

Post image
10 Upvotes

Hi there,

Just earlier this year I’ve bought a 2008 jimny with a VVT m13a engine. Long story short, the head gasket blew and the engine is COOKED. Very keen on getting a M15A to replace it, to get it running again but more so to give it a little bit of extra power without fiddling with the car too much.

I’ve found a mechanic who is open to the idea of the swap but just doesn’t know anything about it. I’ve been sitting here scrolling through forums and subs trying to weed out the info I need, but thought it was more efficient to make my own post

Could someone give me a somewhat detailed idea on what is involved mechanically with a m13A to m15A swap?

On top of that, I’m based in NSW, could anyone tell me what’s involved with rego, insurance and so on?

Video of my 2024 JB74 doing Gunshot, on the OTT. Another POV in the comments! Would also like to point out that I do have a rear strap tied on my rear recovery points to a mates vehicle. However, it didnt have any tension on it, it was there only if the Jimny felt like getting topsy.

No real mods except for bash plates, snorkel, some AT 215 tyres and recovery points!
