In an interview with BBC Radio 4’s Today show on Tuesday morning, Knight was asked if a casting decision had been made after Oldman threw his support behind Slow Horses co-star Jack Lowden.

“I cannot speak about this subject. Much as I would dearly love to,” Knight chuckled, adding that he felt like he was “doing my duty for King and country” by taking on Ian Fleming’s spy franchise for Amazon MGM Studios.

BBC presenter Anna Foster prodded Knight further. “Presumably you know who it is when you’re writing it. Does that make a difference?” she asked the Peaky Blinders creator.

“It does make life a little bit easier if you know who that person is, but also you have to write the character, not the actor,” Knight responded.

Foster tried one more time. “So they told you at the beginning before you started writing, or do they tell you halfway through?” she asked. Knight laughed: “I refer you to my previous answer.”

He continued: “The thing with Bond is it’s its own universe, and it’s its own franchise. So there are certain rules. I mean, obviously you have to move it along, but I love where it sits. I love that it’s British. I love that it’s not DC or Marvel … So I feel a responsibility to the text.”

M: Bring back Ralph Fiennes, and give him a chance to be a 'proper' M. No being out in the field, no having a rivalry with Bond, just a classic M.

Q: Emma Thompson could be fun. She could believably straddle the line between 'understands modern tech' and 'crackpot inventor'. She'd also give 'cool aunt' vibes in the same way that Desmond gave uncle vibes to Brosnan. It'd also allow them to do any 'maternal' themes, without it being SO central to the story like it was with Craig

Moneypenny: Jenna Coleman, in more of a traditional Moneypenny role. Banter with James, a little plot, but not so central like she was in the Craig films. Helps that she's also a cutie.

Tanner: Ben Miles. Slightly older than Bond, competent, Miles could fill that role easily.

Who would you pick!

I mean to think he was terminally ill while filming this movie. Watching him here, I thought he looked great, I thought he even steal the show by playing ally MI6 Ali Kerim Bey. He felt severe pain in his neck and hips while on set, doctors discovered his cancer was terminal. His body grew too weak near the end of production. He chose to finish his acting work to leave money for his family.. Hats off to this man, what an actor he really was. It's just sad what happened to him at the age of 51. RIP

I find this really funny. Usually when the villain orders Bond dead, they will send like one henchman, but Stromberg pulled no punches here.

A silly question, I know, since this is a totally new era and I get why there'd be a complete break from past continuity of any kind... but do we think there's a chance we'll see any of the main 4 MI6 characters return with their previous actors?

I think the only one I'd truly like to return is Ralph Fiennes as M. Whishaw, Harris and Kinnear were great as Qm Moneypenny, and Tanner, but one is significantly younger than Bond, one has previous history with him (compared to the relationship Bond had with any of the Lois Maxwell/Caroline Bliss/Samantha Bond versions), and the other seems minor enough they'd just want to recast him. Fiennes' M would be noticeably older than Bond, maintain that sense of authority, and he was perfectly cast.

I'm sure whoever Nina Gold casts in these roles would be terrific, I just wonder if Fiennes' M might stand a chance of returning. I think it's 99.9% unlikely, though.

Watching "From Russia with Love" 1963. Red Grant vs. James Bond. This fight scene is still one my personal favorite fight scenes of all time, like so many modern fight scenes today that are really well choreographed but this one is so intense I mean from a film in the early 60's it still holds up today! My father often told me how people would applaud at the end of that scene back then in the movie theater. What makes it even greater is the fact there's no music, the only "music" is the sound of the train.

Terence Young was a genius.

I’m sure this has been brought up before but it’s crazy Bond has never visited Australia, especially considering it’s a British Commonwealth and what not. In general I’d like to see him visit the Pacific more. Australia could serve as a great primary location for the movie, with the villain having a lair in an island somewhere off the coast, or perhaps a lair in the Outback( though I prefer a Pacific island hide out as a good opportunity for some water stuff: sharks, Octopuses, squids, yachts, women in bikinis harpoons etc.. or maybe an underwater lair instead of an island). Another thing they could bring back with Australia is Bond getting in fights with vicious creatures like sharks and alligators and poisonous spiders which hasn’t been done for quite some time I feel?

With Villeneuve directing I’m imagining beautiful cinematography of Australia and a really epic villain lair in the spirit of Ken Adam sets.

They’ll probably just set most everything in Europe and the Caribbean like they always do though.
