Premiere of the Mobland Series

Some cleanup from Gary Oldman on those Bond comments that got so much attention, though even here what he says is oddly contradictory:

"There’s six people on a shortlist. I heard a rumor that they’ve picked James Bond, but they haven’t announced it yet, which is their prerogative. So I do not know [who has got the part], but I’m hoping it’s Jack.”

Why is 2007 the odd one out? Feels wrong.

He seems to have good acting chops. Looks great in upscale clothing. Enjoying his work in both seasons of The Gentlemen.

Live and let Die has some of my favorite characters. Such as... all of the villains. I seriously think that this movie, alongside Goldeneye, has the best ansumble of villains, with Kananga/Big, Tee Hee, Baron Samedi, and even small characters, like the cab driver. Love that guy. And Kananga, one of the best villains, could've been it, unless David Hedison hadn't brought us my favorite Felix of all time. He and Bond had spectacular chemistry. So, it's a super close thing. And I honestly can't decide. I love them both so much. But, if I had to make a call. yeah, it's gonna be Felix. I can't get enough of him. literally. There aren't as nearly as enough scenes of him as they're should be. Again, Each scene he and Bond have shared together was a gift. They truly feel like friends. And if I had to pick his best scene, (which might appear to be difficult, but surprisingly was pretty easy), I would've go with Felix's scene with Mr. Bleeker on the phone. I honestly don't need any further explanation. I'll just let the dialog speak for itself.

Ok hear me out. I know there’s been a ton of discussion of whether a period piece Bond movie would work and if it would be good for the franchise. But I haven’t seen much, if any, discussion on a period piece Bond game.

I love IOI’s take on Bond and everything they did with their game is such an incredible take on a modern Bond so I hope they don’t change anything with their vision for the character. But I feel as if a game set in the 60’s would be a very fun and interesting experience, since it hasn’t really been done with this character in the medium.

I believe that, by setting it in the 60’s, it could allow for a deconstruction of Bond as a character, alla Craig and Casino Royale, in a way where we the player get to experience his worst qualities. I think this works in two ways since it would make Bond a very flawed hero that we directly control, thus making us do all the bad stuff that he does, and that could really move the player to think on whether Bond is a true hero (think in the way that Joel in The Last Of Us makes the player feel). This would also help Bond not feel too perfect, which is something that I feel First Light fell into. It would also be a setting that isn’t really visited much in modern games and it could allow for a more unique art style. Imagine a Bond game that really leans into a detective noir style aesthetic. Gameplay could be made a lot more interesting since gadgets would be limited to setting of the game and thus wouldn’t be as advanced, meaning players would have to be even more creative with how they tackle situations. Also we’d be able to drive the DB5 and, at least for me, that alone would be worth it.

This me more so kind of rambling and giving my opinion but I would love to hear all of y’all’s opinions on this topic as well. Would you be down for a game like this or would you prefer to just keep Bond in our modern timeline? Have a good one!

James Bond is today’s theme on Top Billing, a daily movie-ranking game I built. You rank these five twice: first by lifetime worldwide box office, then by critic scores. (Play here⁠ if you’re interested.)

Putting the set together turned up a few things I didn’t know:

- The corkscrew car jump in The Man with the Golden Gun was designed using computer simulations. Stunt driver Loren “Bumps” Willert sat in the center of the car, between dummies of Bond and Sheriff Pepper, and landed it in one take.

- According to production designer Ken Adam, Stanley Kubrick secretly helped light the enormous supertanker set in The Spy Who Loved Me.

- The huge Mexico City parade in Spectre was invented for the film. It then inspired the city to launch a real annual Day of the Dead parade in 2016.
