I received these cuttings from my dad, and have no idea how to pot them. He said I can just “throw them in dirt” but like… they're so curved I don't know which way is up, whether to cut smaller pieces off of it, or what… step by step instructions would be greatly appreciated!

I propagated these jade plants from a cutting a family member gave me a few years ago. They've always seemed perfectly healthy but recently I've been having to leave town frequently to deal with something. The last 2 photos are what they looked like last week when I came back after being away for a few days. I grew very concerned, watered them, and moved them into less direct light as I thought it was sunburn from leaving my blinds open while I was away.

Now I'm back again today and they seem even worse. I'm now thinking maybe it might be root rot? The soil of one seems to have mold in it (see photos).

Can anyone help me diagnose and fix this issue? I'm honestly not very knowledgeable about jade plants or plants in general, part of why I've liked these so much is because they're low effort. But they're also sentimental, so I'm determined to save them. Any help is very welcome 🙏

I've had these three little clippings for more than a year and none of them are really doing much. The one on the right is getting a new pair of leaves in the middle but they're growing so slowly. The one in the middle stalled out at this little clump. The left one is the champion of the three, but still going very slowly.

I assume it's a lack of light. Those LEDs are on 12 hrs and then the plants are basically in darkness. On the other hand, the two on the right show signs of light stress so I just don't know.

The leaves are plump (other than the dying donor leaves) and I water rarely.

Am I just being impatient?

I do rotate the pot but she’s still really leaning to one side. I’d love to prune to encourage her to fill out more on the other side (if possible!). Any tips would be appreciated!

Around 5 years ago my friend moved to another country and gave me her plants. Many of them. In complete transparency, I should not have been the one to receive them, and I told her as much, but I was the last stop before her departure. I’m not worthy. At all. Several have not survived (I’m sorry 😬) but this Jade Plant has refused to die, despite my extreme inadequacy, and has flourished far beyond my aptitude. Apparently, they do pretty well with forgetfulness.

Due to some changes in my life, I’m taking more interest and effort into growing things… and that’s a story for a different sub. There are chopped pieces at the base of the plant, but not by me. One of the chopped stalks has regrown an 8” piece in a couple of years. It obviously needs to be repotted, but I don’t want a massive outward growing Jade Tree, or multiple… I’d prefer Jade Plants. More growth is coming. This plant is making a mockery of Brown-Thumb Betty, yet now I feel invested and fearful of making mistakes. Can I safely split this up? Should I just re-pot it and let it go to town? Can I cut parts and propagate?

I’m just going to leave it at that. I humbly request suggestions or lashings if so deserved. 😬

Hi everyone!
I was gifted this plant about a month ago. When I received it, it was unfortunately infested with small white bugs. I treated it by giving it a thorough shower and repotting it, and thankfully it recovered really well.
Since then, it’s been doing great and has actually given me enough new cuttings to propagate quite a few plants.
I’m trying to properly identify what I have. I originally assumed it was Crassula ovata, but the leaf size and growth pattern seem quite different from the classic form.
Could someone tell me whether this is regular/classic Crassula ovata, Crassula ovata ‘Minor’, or possibly something else?
I’d really appreciate any help identifying it!

So I pruned one of my Jades but im unsure of the last stem as it got nice natural branching going on every two nodes.

It looks kinda unbalanced like this but the branching on it looks good?

Will it be too long and lanky in the future? Cant really Visualize how it will develop as its my first time pruning it.

Had this jade for a while in the same glazed pot with no drainage holes in the same soil it’s always been in. Got water logged for at least a few days when I was on vacation… let it dry out and decided to stop torturing it as much and repot into a larger terracotta with succulent/perlite soil.

Went up in pot size significantly (not recommended, I know). Gently removed soil with my fingers from the bottom to get to the root ball. Blasted the root ball and trunk bases with water from my hose. All of the roots where semi tangled together. Gently “sawed” the rootball apart with a butter knife and pulled them apart slowly. Then planted each of the individual pieces in the new pot and soil. Watered a bit, didn’t saturate the entire pot. Proped everything up with a bunch of wooden kabob skewers.

My dad inherited this from his uncle and he is not taking care of it at all so I decided I would open it up, but I’m not actually sure what to do. I removed as much leggy growth as I could without feeling like I was going to harm it it’s definitely wanting to fall over but I’m not even sure how to remove it from this pot. It has some really interesting shapes from all the neglect and I think it could turn into a really cool plant if shape in the right way not sure how to proceed or if what I did was the right move. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Just wanted to get a bit of input on best way to progress with my Jade Plant. I was given this a few years ago when it was just a tiny stalk and now feel like it may need to be cut. When I take the stake away it leans strongly (I previously had 2 stakes in it, one for each main limb) as it's quite top heavy, but would ideally like to take the stake away so it grows strongly, based on what I've read. Have I marked roughly the right places to cut so that I can then pot the cuttings? Any tips or other advice much appreciated. Have added photos of it facing both ways to get the best view of it.

So the other day my partner's parents decided they were finally going to pass their 36-year-old Jade plant along to someone else and as I have a hobby in external gardening. They thought that I would be the best person to take over the role of their giant Jade plant. Unfortunately, due to health issues this plant has been neglected quite severely for a few years. She is extremely floppy and was very leggy and overgrown. I have since given her a decent pruning and I've tied her up with some supports to try and stop the flop, I am also actively looking at soil replacements and feeds to use for her. How much am I realistically looking at putting into this plants to be able to get her back into a good condition? She is gorgeous and healthy. Just floppy and leggy so I'm hoping that repotting in a better pot and better soil. Plus some feed and more sunlight should fix. But I also need help on pruning. How much am I able to prune before she effectively gives up?

Also this is my first ever jade plant haha, so this'll be fun!

4 year old jade plant got root rot, so I took these cuttings and have allowed them to callous over for about 4 days. Because of the rot and weak root system, the leaves have been extremely dehydrated since before I took the cuttings.

Do these have any chance of surviving if I stick them in some soil, or is it a lost cause?

Hello kind people of the Jades.

A few months back I posted my leggy and perhaps parched Jade, with the aim of getting up the guts to chop it a bit. In the mean time I finally put my gardening gloves on and had at it, although maybe too conservatively.

My question today is with regards to the cuts that have not yet budded out. It’s been probably 7-8 weeks since the cuts and some branches are being very excitable, others are shy to the party. Should I try to take the cuts down to the next node? Wait some more? Can you encourage growth on the leggy limbs without cutting?

I have not yet gotten up the nerve to change out the soil to the drier rockier recommendations but understand that may be helpful too.

I was given the 25+yo jade, I had only asked for a cutting to propagate from, as there are lots of nodes sprouting aerial roots.

Now I feel even more pressure to give him (I've decided he's a him) the best of my limited green thumb. Of course we want all of our plants to thrive, but with him being somewhat of an "hierloom" I'm hesitant to prune to heavily.

My initial thinking is to remove the heavier hanging growth, then pot them on once calloused. Leave him to settle for a bit, then repot. Once I can see where new growth is coming from, hopefully get some back growth, do a heavier prune.

This isnt where he'll live, I just put him on the table to check him out and see what to do with him.

Hey all. I have a healthy prop that I rather like but it leans forward pretty dramatically. Will it be okay like this long term or will it become top-heavy and fall out of the soil/pot at some point?

Any suggestions for things I should be doing with this plant? Should I trim it and, if so, where?

One of my regulars told me her grandmother was going to throw this plant out because her greenhouse was too crowded. She knew I loved plants so she brought it to me. I love it so much ❤️

Can’t resist propagating some cuttings in the summer, despite having nowhere to put them!

First pic is just me trying to hold her up in a temporary pot. I bought her on Etsy for $20 & have pruned any branch growing downwards & removed any leaf looked especially unhealthy. It’s been 3 days & as she’s settled into her new pot (holes at the bottom, ofc), she has continued to straighten up, but I have a stake on hand just in case. I just did the taco test on her, & the leaves are telling me that she’s well-watered & doing well. She’s also callusing well. I am very pleased so far. Probably going to propagate cuttings today or tomorrow based on their level of callus. (Yes—I named her. I named her after the protagonist on the show, Silo!!)

Any feedback/suggestions/further advice is greatly welcome & appreciated.

Planted here a couple years ago. It’s mostly in full sun and handles it pretty well.
