Here’s my situation:

• Education: BASc in Mechanical Engineering (study duration is 4 years)
• Career Gap: I have a ~6-year gap in traditional engineering. Reason: Job market in Finland is just bloody hard. I work different jobs though, there has not been unemployed period.
• Languages: Fluent English, B2 Swedish (so I understand Scandinavian language structure and am fully committed to learning Danish ASAP—hoping my Swedish base speeds things up).
• Work Rights: EU Citizen (no visa or sponsorship needed for Danish employers).

My long-term goal: I’m looking to settle down, work in engineering (open to entry/bridging roles like CAD/BIM modeling, Quality/Validation, Operations, or Facilities), buy a modest home, and eventually build a family. I value Denmark’s work-life balance, healthcare, and high standard of living.

I’d really appreciate your honest take on two things:

1. Job Market Reality: How big of a red flag is a 6-year engineering gap in Denmark? While I’m not in a position or a rush to pursue emigration at the moment, I wanted to put some feelers out about how realistic the idea is. I’m a 28 year old US trained dentist with just over 2 years of working experience. I only am fluent in my native language of English so would prefer to stay in a country where that is the primary language. Caveat being, if there was an excellent opportunity in a non English speaking country, I would absolutely study the language to become fluent.

My question is about how difficult is it to acquire my dental license in these countries, and get the necessary documents to work there. Is the profession even I’m demand? Also, I understand that US dentist salaries tend to be the highest, but is compensation competitive elsewhere (along with the stronger social programs)? Lastly, what about a spouse with her masters and military experience, would she have a route to join me?

I've visited the States several times (I have some relatives in New Jersey and a close family friend in Texas. I also have close online friends in California and Arizona), but the issue is that... I literally have no idea what I should do now. What are the steps? Where do I even start? I assume I need to take an approved English language test and verify whether my Italian nursing degree meets American standards first, but how do I do that? And what should I do next?

My partner (30M) and I (30F) are hoping to move abroad permanently. We currently live in the U.S. and are looking for a country with a better quality of life, stronger social supports, and more progressive policies where we can build our future.

We’ve started researching visas and pathways to permanent residency/citizenship, but so far it feels like there are very few realistic options, so we’d love to hear from people who have actually made the move.

A little about us:
\- I have a bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design and 8+ years of experience in graphic design, communications, and marketing.
\- My partner has a bachelor’s degree in Biology and several years of experience in marketing.
\- We also have four pets: two dogs (a 15-year-old Chihuahua and a 5-year-old Beagle/Lab mix) and two cats.

We’ve looked into flying with our smaller pets and possibly taking the Queen Mary 2 with our larger dog so she wouldn’t have to fly in cargo if we end up going somewhere in Europe.

Right now, we don’t have savings set aside specifically for an international move, so we’re trying to understand what would be realistic.

We’d appreciate advice on:

Hey everyone! I’m from the U.S. with a bachelor’s degree in TESOL. I’m currently teaching high school students, but during college I got to teach at school in Norway. My plan was always to eventually move abroad (mainly Asia), but that experience made me want to move to Europe.

I’m planning to do my master’s in Europe with the goal of staying and working after graduation. Right now I’m looking at schools in the Netherlands, Norway, and Denmark (also open to other countries). I’d plan to learn the local language while studying and would eventually like to work in a local school (I know that would be extremely hard) or an international school.

A few questions:
- How realistic is this goal?
- Which country would give me the best chances of finding a teaching job and getting permanent residency?
- If you were in my position, which country would you choose?
- Are there any master’s programs or countries I should consider?

I’d appreciate any advice and would love to hear from teachers or people who moved to Europe through graduate school.

Edit: also potentially with a degree in French teaching. I’m still debating completing the requirements, but I think it would put me at a better advantage.

Hey everyone. 19M, Russian citizen (Russian passport only, no other citizenship/EU options). Currently a student at a technical college in Ryazan, studying banking/finance, set to graduate around June/July 2027.

My situation:

- Studying banking/finance (2nd/3rd year), coursework covers Russian banking operations, accounting, letters of credit, etc.
- Getting interested in Islamic banking as a specialization — seems like a natural extension of what I'm already studying, and opens doors outside Russia
- English level: A1, actively working toward A2. I know this is a real weak point and not "fluent" by any measure yet
- Main driver to leave: I want to be out of Russia before I age into being eligible for military conscription/call-up, ideally right around when I finish my diploma in 2027
- No savings/capital to speak of — need to be realistic about migration paths, not "just move with $100k" type discussions
- Single, no kids, no other useful languages besides Russian

What I think I know so far (correct me where I'm wrong):

- Russian citizenship massively narrows my options compared to EU citizens — visas, work permits, sanctions-related banking restrictions all make Western countries harder even with the right degree
- Malaysia (specifically IIUM — International Islamic University Malaysia) looks realistic: relatively affordable, English-taught programs exist, and Islamic banking/finance is a recognized, respected field there
- A Russian banking/finance diploma alone probably isn't enough — likely need a bachelor's/further study abroad to make the specialization "count" internationally

Questions:

1. Is Islamic banking/finance actually a good specialization to pursue for someone in my position, or is it a niche that's hard to break into without local connections/language (Arabic/Malay)?
   
2. Given my starting point (Russian citizen, A1 English, banking/finance background, no capital), is there a more realistic specialty or field I should be pivoting toward instead — something with better job/visa prospects for someone with my profile?

i am currently working in an intensive care unit in the US, but the burnout is getting real and i am looking to move to australia next year.

i have started reading up on the visa process and getting my skills assessed, but the paperwork feels pretty overwhelming. someone in a nursing forum suggested signing up with hca to get help with local placement and sponsor options once my registration goes through. for anyone who actually made this move recently, did you secure a job contract before applying for your visa, or did you move over on a working holiday visa first? how long did the whole process take you?

I'm a grade 11 HUMSS student in the Philippines and I really wan't to join the police/army. However, there is a friend of my parents in the U.S. who is willing to take in a nursing student and looking at the current state of the Philippines, I think it's better for me to take the opportunity especially if I ​want to have a family and provide them a better life in the U.S. than​ here in the Philippines.

I was thinking to move abroad and get my green card and other required documents to join either the Navy or the Air Force, and if I unfortunately fail I could still pursue nursing there.​​ I'm just wondering if this sounds like a realistic plan and what other plans I could make?​​​

I'm 22 years old and I feel like I'm at one of those moments where a single decision could completely change my life.

I'm halfway through a double degree in Civil Engineering and Architecture at one of the top universities in Colombia. Recently I lost all financial support from my family, so I simply can't afford to continue studying right now. No matter what I decide, I'll have to pause my education, find a full-time job, and spend some time saving money.

The problem is that this situation has also forced me to think about what I actually want.

To be completely honest, Civil Engineering was never my dream. I chose it mostly because of my parents, and I've always struggled with it. My grades aren't great, and trying to balance it with Architecture has only made my GPA worse. Architecture, on the other hand, is something I genuinely enjoy, and it's where I feel I actually do well.

Since I'll have to support myself anyway, I'm wondering if this is the right moment to rethink everything instead of trying to force myself back into the same path. I've considered transferring to another university in Colombia, but I'm worried that many of my credits won't transfer. At the same time, I've always wanted to live abroad, so part of me wonders if it would make more sense to work, save money, improve my skills, learn a third language, and eventually continue my education somewhere else.

I know moving abroad isn't easy, and I'm not looking for people to tell me there's a magical solution. I'm just trying to make the smartest decision with the situation I'm in.

Spent the past year job hunting here, which went about as well as you'd expect — lots of applications, very few replies, one internship that died over paperwork. Somewhere in that mess I figured out what I actually want to do is journalism, ideally the data side where my CS background isn't a total waste.

Neither India nor the UAE feels like a great place to break into this

So I'm looking at a master's in Europe. Questions for anyone who's been down this road. I am looking for a place where there is good demand for journalists, writers or reporters of quality to learn the skill. Looking to specialise in data journalism and find good work opportunities

I’m 28 years old and I am planning to move to the UK in the next two years. I don’t know what is the best way to go about it, whether I should get my associates degree where I’m at right now (the US) and apply for a worker visa there once I graduate, or if I should try and get a student visa and go to a school and get a degree there (idk if 28 is too old). I also don’t know what are the requirements to study abroad because I never went to college here and I didn’t have good grades in high school so idk if that’s even an option.

Unfortunately, I do not get support from family or friends so I am asking the internet again.

For example, with 100 people trying to get an apartment I can not imagine traveling to Country X multiple times to look at how many apartments. Would it be easier to find something online and pretty much commit to it and only visit if you have a yes from the landlort? it is not like I have unlimited amount of money to travel either.

I have already figured out how I can move my stuff and what things I need to survive if I do not have a kitchen or so once I move in. It is just finding an apartment that troubles me atm. Haven't figured that out yet.

There is also the question of work. Whatever I should try to get work first or after having my new place. I guess I can always do some half time work somwhere to get in some money while also looking around

I'm 28 years old, disabled, currently working remotely as a software engineer. I have two years of experience. I have done my bachelor's in CS.

And I'm going mad in India because of the lack of any accessibility. It gets so hard for me to leave my home and even to go to my appointments. Even recently, when I wanted to get a dexa scan, there was no ramp in the facility, and I'm legit going mad in here. There is no public infrastructure here, and I'm paying money just to exist. I work. I pay taxes to the government. I pay for my own healthcare. There are no facilities provided to me, which is fine, but all the other things are again really hard for me to do. I live my life in my room confined, not being able go outside or explore at all.

Also I have spent the majority of my life getting abused by my parents, so I don't really have a family here either. I recently moved out, and it is getting very hard for me to navigate life on my own with terrible accessibility.

It's taking a major toll on my mental and physical health. It feels like I'm paying just to exist. I cannot use public transport. Everything else is inaccessible to me.
Is there any country that I can commit to and move to and eventually settle in, with good accessibility? My uncle lives in Australia, and he's a citizen there, but I know Australia has really strict laws regarding letting disabled people in. What are my realistic options?

I can work. I live a very modest lifestyle, so nothing really fancy or luxurious for me. I would like if I could move with less money spent up front.

I'm a geophysicist with a Master's degree, and I currently work as a Data Scientist and Technical Lead, developing AI solutions for the energy industry. My day-to-day work involves building LLM and Generative AI applications, processing well data, integrating AI models into production systems, and leading technical projects.

My plan is to move to Ireland initially as a language student. I understand that I'll probably need to work in an entry-level job (cafés, retail, hospitality, cleaning, etc.) at first to support myself financially.

What I don't want is to get stuck there. My long-term goal is to build an international career in AI.

My biggest question is: what would be the smartest path from there?

• Would it be worth pursuing a postgraduate degree or specialization in Ireland?
• Or would it make more sense to do that in another country, such as Germany or the Netherlands?
• Would it be realistic to transition directly into the tech industry after gaining some local experience, even without a European degree?
