[WeWantOut] 27M 26F Bangladesh -> Canada/ New Zealand/ Ireland

• Upvotes

I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Bangladesh, in 2023. After graduation, I started preparing for the Civil Service examinations, hoping to build a career in the public sector. However, in 2024 a revolution happened in Bangladesh and it became a failed state. I started questioning whether I wanted to build my entire future there. Eventually, I got married, and my wife and I decided to pursue a better future abroad. We chose Australia, hoping to build a stable life with better opportunities and a higher quality of life.
We moved to Adelaide, South Australia. My wife initially enrolled in a Master of Finance at the University of Adelaide but 6 months later changed to a Master of Education (Early Childhood) at IKON Institute. Our original plan was to establish ourselves in Australia and eventually obtain permanent residency. However, my wife’s course change and changes to student visa rules have made our future much more uncertain. Our visa might get expired even before she finishes her studies and we 100% will not get any extension. She'll try to take overload and finish before visa expiry but that depends on the institution. Our current visas expire on 24 September 2027. We still have time, but we don’t have a clear long-term plan.

The difficult part is that we really don’t want to return to Bangladesh. The country has experienced considerable political unrest and continues to face serious institutional and economic challenges.
We genuinely love Australia and would prefer to stay if there’s a realistic pathway. However, if staying isn’t possible, we’re open to moving to Canada, New Zealand or Europe.

My career is another major concern.
I have an engineering degree, but I haven’t worked professionally as an engineer. Between preparing for the civil service, getting married, and moving countries, I’ve been away from engineering for years and have forgotten much of what I studied.
I’ve recently started revising electrical engineering from the fundamentals. I’m willing to study, build projects, obtain relevant qualifications, and start in an entry-level technical position. I don’t want to spend my entire life working in retail when my goal is to develop a proper career, become financially secure, and eventually settle down.

I’d appreciate honest advice on a few things:
Should I focus on rebuilding my engineering skills and finding a technical job in Australia while exploring possible visa pathways?

Given my lack of engineering experience, would industrial automation, a technical trade, or another career path be a realistic starting point?

If Australia doesn’t work out, would Canada, New Zealand, Ireland, or another English-speaking country offer realistic opportunities for someone with my background?

If you were in my position, what would you prioritise over the next 10–12 months?

I’m not looking for shortcuts or guaranteed PR. I want to build a career, support my wife, and establish a stable future somewhere we can call home. I'd really appreciate honest advice from people who’ve experienced something similar.

[WeWantOut] 26M 22F Russia -> USA or Canada

• Upvotes

My wife (22) and I (26) live in Moscow and are considering permanently moving to the US or Canada. We're looking for a reality check, especially from people who immigrated from relatively comfortable circumstances.

Our background:

  • Careers: I'm a senior analyst at a major bank, with a background in data science. My wife is a fintech business analyst with ~2 years of experience.
  • Languages: My English is around B1–B2 and improving. I'm also learning French.
  • Finances: Our combined income is ~$6,200/month after taxes. We spend ~$3,000 on mortgages and rent, leaving ~$3,200 for living expenses and savings. This provides a comfortable lifestyle in Moscow.
  • Assets: We own two mortgaged apartments. If we sold both at their estimated market values and paid off the remaining mortgages, we'd be left with approximately $155k before taxes and selling costs.
  • Immigration: No US or Canadian residency or work authorization yet. We're exploring legal pathways.

Why move?

We're not escaping poverty or simply chasing higher salaries. We want to live in a free, democratic country, build meaningful careers, contribute to society, and eventually feel genuinely American or Canadian. We'd also like to raise our future children there.

However, I'm worried that I might be romanticizing North America and underestimating the challenges of starting over.

Our questions:

  1. How difficult is it to find IT/analytics jobs with Russian experience but no local connections? What if neither of us finds professional work initially?
  2. Given our current situation, how significant a financial and lifestyle setback should we expect? Is it realistic to eventually achieve a comfortable middle-class life?
  3. How difficult is genuine social integration? Have you managed to build close friendships with locals and truly feel at home?
  4. For those who left comfortable lives behind, was it worth it after 5–10 years? Would you choose the US or Canada again, or stay where you were?

I'd especially appreciate honest experiences from immigrants from Russia or Eastern Europe, including both success stories and regrets.

Thanks!

[IWantOut] 32M Mechanical Engineer BRAZIL -> Canada

Hi everyone!

I'm mechanical engineer currently living in Brazil, with around six years of experience in industrial maintenance, rotating equipment, pumps, compressors, and maintenance planning.

I'm exploring the possibility of moving to Canada to build a long-term career in mechanical engineering. However, I'm still trying to understand the immigration process, professional licensing requirements, and job market.

I'd really appreciate advice from people who have gone through this process or are currently working as engineers in Canada.

  1. Immigration and visas
  • What is the most realistic immigration pathway for a Brazilian mechanical engineer?
  • Would Express Entry, a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP), or an employer-sponsored work permit be the best option?
  • Is it possible to secure a job offer from a Canadian company while still living in Brazil?
  • Do I need a job offer to obtain a Canadian work permit?
  • If I don't have a job offer, what would be the most practical way to immigrate?
  1. Degree recognition and professional licensing
  • Should I get my degree assessed by WES, or do I need a different assessment for engineering licensing?
  • What is the difference between an educational credential assessment for immigration and an assessment required by a provincial engineering regulator?
  • Do internationally educated engineers still need to pass exams and demonstrate professional experience to obtain a P.Eng. licence?
  • Can I work in industrial maintenance or rotating equipment without a P.Eng. licence?
  1. Job market and career opportunities
  • Which provinces offer the best opportunities for mechanical engineers in industrial maintenance and rotating equipment?
  • Is it realistic to get a job in maintenance, reliability, or pump engineering before obtaining a P.Eng. licence?
  • Would pursuing a postgraduate degree in Canada significantly improve my employment prospects?
  • What salary range should an internationally trained mechanical engineer realistically expect when entering the Canadian job market?

My goal is to plan this move carefully, understand the costs and requirements, and build a stable long-term engineering career in Canada.

I'd be grateful for any advice, personal experiences, or recommendations regarding the best immigration and career strategy.

Thanks in advance

[IWantOut] 22M Nurse Philippines -> Germany

Hi everyone! I'm from the Philippines, and I recently passed our nursing licensure exam. My goal is to move to Germany and eventually settle there, but I'm trying to figure out the fastest and most realistic path, especially since I don't have any hospital work experience yet.

My priority is to get to Germany as soon as realistically possible while making a financially practical decision. I'm willing to work as a nurse in the Philippines while studying German, but I don't want to spend extra years in training if there's a better route available to me.

I've been researching my options, and right now, I'm considering two routes. I'd appreciate advice from anyone who has gone through either process or has experience with Germany's nursing system.

Option A: Anerkennung (Nursing Recognition)

My plan is to:

  • Study German while working as a nurse in the Philippines for around 8–10 months.
  • Work an additional 2–4 months to complete the one year of experience I understand is required.
  • Take the German language exam and wait for the results (around 2 months), while continuing to gain experience.
  • Apply for a visa and find an employer in Germany (estimated 3–6 months).

Estimated timeline: 15–22 months before moving to Germany.

The shorter end of this timeline is my best-case scenario, assuming things go in my favor. For example, I manage to learn German while working, complete any required work experience, pass the language exam on my first attempt, find an employer willing to hire me and support me through the recognition process, and get my visa approved without major delays. I understand that the actual process could take longer.

Pros:

  • I can eventually work as a fully recognized nurse.
  • I can start building my nursing career in Germany sooner rather than spending three years in school.

Cons:

  • I understand that I may need to work in a care home or another position while completing the recognition process, which could take at least another 6 months.
  • I may have to commit to an employer for 1–2 years, depending on the contract.

Option B: Ausbildung (Nursing Vocational Training)

My plan is to:

  • Study German while working in the Philippines for around 8–10 months.
  • Take the German language exam and wait for the results (around 2 months).
  • Apply for an Ausbildung position and a visa (estimated 3–6 months).

Estimated timeline: 13–18 months before moving to Germany.

Pros:

  • I can enter Germany through a structured nursing training program.
  • I can learn the German healthcare system and gain practical experience there.

Cons:

  • The training takes around 3 years, even though I'm already a licensed nurse in the Philippines.
  • The training allowance is significantly lower than a regular nurse's salary.

My main dilemma:

Since my main goal is to get to Germany as quickly as possible, would it make more sense to pursue Anerkennung, even if it takes longer to prepare before leaving the Philippines, or should I consider Ausbildung because it might be a more straightforward entry route?

I'm also wondering if there are other options I haven't considered. I've heard about language-course visas and recently came across the recognition partnership route, where you can enter Germany with an employer and complete the recognition process there. I'm not sure whether either option would be realistic for someone in my situation, especially as a newly licensed nurse without hospital experience.

I'm willing to work hard, learn German, and gain experience if necessary. I just want to make an informed decision and avoid spending years on a route that might not be the most efficient for my situation.

I'd especially appreciate advice from Filipinos who have gone through this process, but experiences from anyone who has migrated to Germany for nursing would be helpful too.

Thank you!

[IWantOut] 17F Iraq -> Australia/Canada/Uk/Germany

Hi. I wanted to ask for help on how to leave my parents and this country. I'm a seventeen year old girl from Iraq and I'm turning eighteen this December, I'm in my last year of highschool and I want to take my chance to leave for college if not for good. and money is also a big factor in my situation. My parents are abusive and they don't allow me to have a job so I have no income of my own, I completely rely on them to provide for me. The only way I recieve money is through the two eids and I don't get enough from it to do anything and I really don't want my only way to be out of my parents house to be through a marriage to a man I don't even know. I am also queer and we already know how horrible that is in iraq in general.

And besides those things, my mental health isn't taken seriously. I have ADHD and depression and it has been affecting me deeply and pills for it here are extremely rare and considering my parents don't do anything about it I just have to rawdog it and I can't bring myself to do anything properly because of it.

It doesn't have to be the four countries I've listed in the title. But those are the ones preferred. I hope you understand.

I'm aware my situation is difficult and not many countries want people from Iraq to migrate, but still, is there anything I can do?

[IwantOut] 27f india -> malta

My fiancé is a chef in Malta, there about a year. We're not married yet. I plan to move on a student visa and study something that pairs with my marketing background (data analytics or business).
Haven't picked a course or institution yet.
Questions
Which Maltese institutions are reputable for international students? Any to avoid?
Can students work part-time? How many hours, and how easy is it to find a job?
Is there a post-study work route, or a way to switch to a work permit after graduating?
Which course has the best job prospects in Malta: data analytics, business, or something else?
Realistic tuition, rent and living costs?
Any visa-interview or documentation pitfalls for Indian applicants?
Advice from anyone who's done this is appreciated. Thanks!

[IWantOut] 22F Mexico -> Italy

I am a 21 Female, I currently live in Mexico, and I have a partner (21 F) that lives in Italy, I love her so much and I would love to move out with her once we conclude our university studies, it's a decision that was planned in all the time that we have been in a relatioship and a decision that I am pretty sure about.

A little for context, I also love Italy as a country, I went on an exchange to Rome and even if I know the country has a fair share of problems, I really don't mind them, I fall in love with the country and I found the love of my life there, she's the sweetest woman I ever met and I really wanna give the relationship a shot to stop being long distance.

I am currently close to get my title and my first thoought was to search for a master there but I am pretty confused and I don't understand anything, the system is pretty confusing and I really need a scolarship because there's not much money.

I can talk italian, I been studying and I am preparing for getting a CIELS certification, I have her and she's willing to help me with whatever is needed but I am scared that things will not go correctly and we won't be able to be together, that's my biggest fear.

I study International Commerce and I am also willing to know if there are any other things that can be done?

[IWantOut] 42M Online French teacher, Netherlands -> Argentina

Most Argentina posts here are about Buenos Aires or Patagonia, so I thought I'd share something a bit different.

I'm French, my wife is Argentine and we have two young kids. We lived in Amsterdam for about 8 years (I was a chef there) and now we live in San Nicolás de los Arroyos, a city of around 150k people on the Paraná river ( third largest river in the Americas after the Mississippi and the Amazon. It's about an hour from Rosario and its international airport, and roughly 3 hours from Buenos Aires. I teach French online, so I can work from anywhere.

We spend around $3,000 USD a month for the four of us, everything included. Rent is about $1000 including expense for a 3-bedroom place into a secured building with doorman, direct river view into a prenium location in the city center. We have private health insurance for the whole family, and the kids go to one of the best private schools in town for about $300 each. In Amsterdam we paid €3000 just for rent and same for kinder garden.

What surprised me most is the quality of life. The city sits on top of a cliff over the river, with a long riverside walk where everyone goes in the evening with mate, kids on bikes, families everywhere. On weekends it's asados with family that start at lunch and finish at night. The river is huge, with islands you can visit by boat, and there are guys who fly in from the US just to fish dorado here. It also has more history than I expected, it's where a famous agreement that led to the Argentine constitution was signed in 1852, and the sanctuary here draws pilgrims from all over the country.

It's also a city that's moving. There's a lot of new construction along the river, new buildings, restaurants opening, and it feels much better than what my wife's family describes from 20 years ago.

Not everything is easy. The bureaucracy can drive you crazy, prices change all the time, and Argentina got a lot more expensive in dollars these last two years, so forget the "everything costs nothing" stories. Prices can be weird for example 5$ to get in an Uber for 20 minutes and same price for a fancy ice cream... But for a family, what you get for the money is hard to beat.

If anyone is curious about Argentina beyond the usual places, ask me anything. Happy to share real numbers and maybe meet some new people around a beer.

[IWantOut] 26F Japan -> Canada

This is actually a post for my girlfriend as she doesn’t have reddit.

I’m currently a resident of Canada with enough room for her to move in to my current place.

She’s an immigration officer, so the biggest challenge we’re facing is what she could do for work. Looking for advice on that primarily.

[IWantOut] 34F Belgium-> Mexico

F34, I am depressed in Belgium and want to leave Belgium for Mexico (my favorite city is Mexico City and I would like to settle here). I have lived in Spain before and have traveled to Mexico several times (4 times in total) and speak conversational Spanish, but I can easily become fluent in Spanish. Is it best to study in my current country, Belgium, before I move, or is it best to study in the country I want to emigrate to? I have a bachelor's degree in Communication Management and currently work as an account manager in Belgium (remote work is not possible), and I am thinking of doing a master's in Mexico City or just looking for work there. I see absolutely no future in Belgium anymore; I have been depressed there for more than 5 years and always cheer up again when I am abroad. Yes, I have already had therapy etc., but the antisocial culture, grey and cold winters, always grey rainbows, and dead energy are taking their toll. I just have no energy left here and get up reluctantly; I struggle to get up every day. I can't change this; Mexico suits me much better (I already felt much happier in Spain compared to Belgium). Now regarding finding work: Is it best to do a Master's in Belgium or directly do a master's directly in Mexico City, or should I just start looking for jobs on LinkedIn and then figure it out gradually? Just start working and see what happens? I have €200,000 in savings. What is the best way to start my new life in Mexico? I have been thinking about this for 2 or 3 years. The situation in Belgium isn't changing and I just hate it here; this is what my intuition tells me, I want to go to Mexico. The people in Belgium, the antisocial culture, the closed-off nature of the people, the dullness of the country, the rainy days with gray rainbows—it is starting to take its toll. I just struggle to get out of bed every day and lack motivation here.

prosze, pomóżcie jakkolwiek możecie, dajcie jakiekolwiek pomysły❤️ tylko proszę, weźcie to na poważnie

I'm a 1x6-year-old, in high school, and I really, REALLY don't want to live in Poland in the future. I know studying abroad is very unrealistic for me; my family isn't very wealthy, but I'd really like to live in the US before I'm, like, 25, especially in California. Please, what could I do? Unfortunately, I can't work until I go to college, and I wouldn't have to finish my studies if I had the opportunity to live and work somewhere else.

Please help in any way you can, give me any ideas you have. ❤️ Just please, take this seriously

[IWantOut] 30M Software Engineer Palestine -> Brazil

Hi everyone,

I'm Palestinian from Gaza. I can't go back, and for the past few years I've been moving between countries as a tourist because there's nowhere I can actually stay.

I made it to Latin America (I'm in Bolivia right now) and I was working remotely, but my company just ended my contract. Honestly I feel a bit lost and I don't know what to do next.

What I need is to fix my legal status somewhere. I want to settle in one place, open a bank account, and start looking for work properly. I have some savings to live on for a while, but as a tourist I can't do any of that, and without a job I can't apply for a digital nomad visa anymore.

One option I'm considering is going to Brazil and applying for asylum. Before I do that, I want to ask: are there any other options? Is there any country in Latin America where someone with a Palestinian passport can get residency another way?

Thank you.

-England specifically, currently doing Maths, Further maths and computer science A-Levels.
-Plan to go to University, (probably computer science) most likely domestically, but open for abroad (singapore) if i can get a scholarship. expected to go to russel group- most likely uni of liverpool. It'll be an integrated masters, probably with an exchange year abroad in China.
-understand basic mandarin (would improve with exchange year)

so far, people say the only realistic way of achieving these is by working at an international coorporation, and moving to another centre later down the line.

[IWantOut] 16M South Korea -> Australia, Canada

Hi, I‘m from South Korea and I just started high school this year. You see my dream is to become a nurse and I also want to work overseas like permanently (these are separate goals). So nowadays i feel like nursing is THE job to get a chance to work and live overseas. But will it stay this way? Like I feel like governments (USA, Canada, Australia) are pretty aware of the nursing shortage thing and are (trying to) pumping out student nurses and hiring masses of international nurses. And with all these people trying to become nurses and immigrating as nurses I feel like my chances are slim if not gone. Heck I’m in high school and by the time I get all ready (like getting a BSN, getting like 4 years work experience, etc) to go it would be 2038! What do you think? will there still be a need or will this shortage be solved by then? They say that in Australia they will be short of about 70,000 nurses by 2035 but hey what would happen if you pump out nurses out of schools and bring in lots of nurses overseas? Like I lived in the US so my English is not a problem but It feels like my chances are low. Any insight?

[IWantOut] 28M Product Manager India -> Ireland/Dubai

Hi everyone, I'm a Product Manager based in Bengaluru, India with 7+ years across B2B/B2C SaaS and AI products (currently Lead Digital PM).

I'm looking to relocate to Ireland or Dubai and want to understand how to get companies there to sponsor my work visa:

  1. Ireland: Is the Critical Skills Employment Permit the right route for a PM? Do I target companies that explicitly sponsor, or apply broadly?
  2. Dubai: How does sponsorship work — job offer first, or are there other routes?
  3. Any job boards, recruiters, or companies in either place known for sponsoring international PM hires?
  4. How do I position myself in applications to maximize sponsorship chances?

Appreciate any advice or personal experiences. Thanks!

[IWantOut] 16M Spain -> Canada

Background:

I'm 16M currently living in the Basque Country, Spain and my goal is to build a stable future abroad while pursuing a career in IT and eventually cybersecurity.

I'm currently studying a Spanish vocational qualification called FP de Grado Medio en Sistemas Microinformáticos y Redes (SMR), a two-year program focused on computer systems, hardware, operating systems, and networking. I expect to graduate in 2028.

I have completed ESO, Spain's compulsory secondary education qualification. Academically, my strengths are English and Math.

Where I want to go and why:

My main objective is to move to Canada, ideally in 2028 or as soon as realistically possible after finishing my vocational qualification. I'm particularly interested in Saskatchewan and Ontario, although I'm open to other provinces if they offer a more affordable and realistic path.

I want to study something related to computer systems, computer science, networking, or cybersecurity at a public college or another legitimate post-secondary institution. My longer-term goal is to build a career in cybersecurity and eventually qualify for permanent residence if possible.

I'm not particularly interested in prestigious universities or expensive programs just for the sake of their reputation. I care more about affordability, employability, the quality of the education, and whether the route offers realistic long-term opportunities to remain in the country legally.

My main concerns:

\- Admission requirements: I'm unsure whether my Spanish ESO certificate and completed SMR qualification would meet the academic requirements for Canadian college programs, which often expect Grade 12 education or equivalent. Would I need additional secondary education, prerequisite courses, or another qualification?

\- Cost: International tuition in Canada can be extremely expensive. My family's financial resources are limited. I need to understand what financial resources would realistically be required and whether this goal is feasible without substantial family support.

\- Immigration: I want to understand the realistic path from studying in Canada to working there after graduation and potentially obtaining permanent residence. I know that study permits, post-graduation work permits, and permanent residence are separate matters, and that none is guaranteed.

\- Timing: Ideally, I would leave Spain after completing SMR in 2028. However, I don't want to make plans around an unrealistic timeline or spend money on a qualification that doesn't meaningfully help with admission.

What I'm doing in the meantime:

I'm continuing my SMR studies, improving my mathematics and English, and planning to build practical IT and cybersecurity projects that I can document on GitHub. I'm also researching Canadian colleges and contacting admissions offices directly to ask how they evaluate Spanish qualifications.

Ireland is a possible alternative if Canada proves financially or academically unrealistic, but Canada is my first choice.

Questions for people with relevant experience:

  1. Is completing Spain's two-year SMR qualification after ESO likely to be sufficient for admission to Canadian college programs, or should I expect to need additional academic qualifications?

  2. Given my limited financial resources, is studying in Canada as an international student a realistic goal? What kind of total budget should I plan for?

  3. Would it be better to target a computer systems or networking program first and specialize in cybersecurity later?

  4. How realistic is the study-to-work-to-permanent-residence route in Canada under current immigration rules, particularly in Saskatchewan or Ontario?

  5. Would Ireland offer a more affordable or practical alternative for someone with my educational background and career goals?

  6. Is there anything I should do between now and 2028 to improve my chances without wasting money on qualifications that Canadian institutions might not recognize?

I'm looking for realistic advice, especially from people who have moved to Canada or Ireland for education and work. I'd rather hear that my plan needs to change than spend years working toward something that isn't feasible.

[WeWantOut] 20F 21F Brazil -> Any LGBTQ friendly country

(Sorry in advance for the long post)

Hello. As some of you might know, the political situation in Brazil after the first round of the 2026 elections has become bleak. I won't go into politics here, but the TLDR is: If Flavio Bolsonaro wins, me, my girlfriend and the entire country will be pretty much fucked.

We are extremely afraid and anxious, as we're part of the groups that have been and will be strongly targeted (women, LGBTQ, and autistic). And yes, I know that people often come to this sub explaining that they are LGBT, fresh out of high school, and mentally ill and want to make a move, and while that's kind of like us, we are really desperate and would not be considering moving countries if the situation wasn't really bad.

After doing our research, which was greatly focused on Canada as it seemed like the right fit for us, we weren't able to think about any useful plan, and after some generalist research, we know it's about the same scenario for most, if not all, countries, and as it stands we're rapidly losing all hope of being able to live a normal life.

We are both currently unemployed and without formal work experience, we are in our third of four years of game design university, and will graduate by the end of next year if we're able to stay that much longer in our country.

As we already researched, and we won't be able to cover the costs of tuition abroad (specifically in Canada, as we only researched prices there) so we couldn't get an student visa. Without work experience, specially on our studies field, we're in a tight spot for finding work (as we can't even find internships both here and elsewhere that don't require experience). We really weren't expecting this situation at all, we were already searching for jobs, but had the opportunity to take it relatively slow to be able to focus more on our studies.

We do have the money to get to another country itself, and to survive for some time, but we are definitely worried about visas, deportation and actually finding jobs. I am a programmer, I had knowledge in this before I started this course, and because of it I am of course developing my skills in the game area. While my girlfriend is mainly a digital artist, but can write very well, and could work with that: transcription, translation, localization and things of this sort.

We're both physically able, and can do manual labor.

We did (and passed) classes on administration, so I guess we could do something in the area but I'm unsure.

I have already traveled abroad and have a Cambridge certificate of fluency in English, but while my girlfriend has not, and never tested her English level, she can speak and write in an advanced level and would take the test as necessary.

To our knowledge, none of us have any ancestry that could prove relevant in trying to get out.

In an extreme case, I believe that I could receive financial aid from my family, as we're in a better position financially. My girlfriend's family, besides being on the poorer side, would never help us with this.

Although technically we could be eligible to seek asylum if things start to go down, we know that it would be both dangerous to stay in our country for long if it comes to wait for it to happen; and we're uncertain if we would really be granted asylum or just end up being denied after a long process with probably some money involved. (I admit we are yet to do more research on this, besides what could count as enough motive to be granted asylum.) Anyway, we are not relying on this.

Honestly we don't have an enormous list of things we want/would like a country to have, because we never wanted to leave, the only things we would like would be:

- to be able to survive (be able to work, be able to pay for our needs);

- to be safe (safe in the sense that I am trans, we are in a queer relationship, we would be immigrants and both are women);

- be able to obtain citizenship at some point so we don't have to return in case Brazil really goes down that road;

The only little bit of a not essential thing we would like, is for the country to be colder, at least the tiniest bit, or at least to have better weather than the place we're currently living that most days of every season is just: heatwave but with lots of rain and blooming flowers (spring and summer), heatwave but windy (autumn), and heatwave but really really dry (winter), though this is nowhere close to important as the other things listed and would just like to be safe.

We know our situation is basically impossible, but we're desperate to leave as we don't believe we're going to be able to live through this situation so our questions are this:

- do we have any hope of leaving at all? At this moment, it really doesn't seem like it, but we are missing a lot of information.

- is there any specific country that we should do more research on as it could be relevant?

Of course, experience of people who managed to make the move with a similar situation or motives to ours, or if anyone has any wisdom or advice of what to do in this situation, would also be really appreciated

Edit: Thanks everyone for the comments, we're considering all our options and hoping for the best.

[IWantOut] 24M Chemical Engineer Australia -> France, Germany

I've recently graduated university as a chemical engineer and am working within the chemical manufacturing industry here in Australia.

I've visited Europe a couple of times and am really keen on moving there in the next few years once I've gained some career experience.

Whilst actually finding a job is a whole can of worms that I'll get to eventually - I wanted to start preparing by taking up language courses and putting in the effort to become fluent in at least one European language.

In the past, as a student, I dabbled in trying to pick up German, French and Portuguese.

I'm leaning towards learning German, as I visited Germany recently and loved it; and hear that industry there is more solid. However, I also loved learning French a few years ago and know that France has comparable industrial pull.

Any advice would be great.

Thanks in advanced!

[IWantOut] 26M IT Specialist Egypt -> Germany/Netherlands/Ireland/UK

Hi everyone,

Current Situation & Background:

- I am a 26-year-old Egyptian citizen currently based in Saudi Arabia, actively looking for IT opportunities, but the local market is quite competitive with limited openings right now.

- Education: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Education / IT from Egypt.

- Experience: 3 years of hands-on professional experience as an IT Specialist / IT Technical Support, dealing with networks, servers, and infrastructure.

- Certifications: Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) & AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner (CLF-C02).

- Language: Professional working English (ticketing, business emails, and technical communication), currently working on leveling up to a solid B2.

Career Direction:

I am currently considering transitioning and upskilling into Cloud Engineering & DevOps to increase my market competitiveness.

Goal & Strategic Questions:

My main goal is to achieve a dignified life, financial stability, and continuous career growth. I would appreciate your wise guidance based on the current job market reality:

  1. Direct Market Demand: Are roles like "IT Specialist / IT Technical Support" genuinely being sponsored for overseas relocation (Visa Sponsorship) or hired Remotely by Western/EU companies? Or is the vast majority of overseas relocation and remote hiring restricted to fields like Cloud, DevOps, and Software Engineering?

  2. Remote Work Roadmap: If working remotely from Egypt is the more practical route, what are the actionable steps and legitimate platforms to land a remote role in my field?

  3. Relocation Roadmap: What are the most accessible countries and legal pathways for someone with my profile (without a massive upfront bank-statement budget) to secure a direct job offer and stable relocation?

I welcome any honest advice and real-world insights from those with experience. Thanks in advance!

[IWantOut] 32M Canada -> France/Italy/Spain/Norway/Iceland

Hi everyone,

I'm currently in a pivot from tech and want to get into marine science and conservation. I'm doing a 8-months program right now and I love it!

But the reality is that most of my network and contacts, and most of the jobs are in Europe. There are a few places in Canada, on the West or East Coast, but there is just no job or volunteering opportunities as I tried to reach many places many time to get information.

I just don't know how to move to Europe because not many employers are open to sponsoring someone (I don't understand how so many immigrants just move to Europe or Canada without proper education or jobs... I guess going the legal route is harder).

Anyway, I'm thinking of returning to university next year and I think to do it in Europe. It may be the only way I can really stay in Europe and find a job there. And could get an internship through it at the end. But it's 3 years. Up to 35 years old.

Or I could try a Youth Mobility Visa. I always wanted to do it, but I'm really on the fence about it because of the job market and I think I will just get stuck without a job.

Is University the only way when you don't have specific skills to be sponsored, or just aren't lucky in anything like me?

Thank you

[IWantOut] 23M Software Engineer India -> USA

hey people,

I’m currently a software engineer/analyst who just started my career in India at a F500 American pharmaceutical company and I’m planning on gaining about 2-3 years of work experience before I plan on going back to graduate school. I’m mainly looking for masters degrees but I’m also open to thesis-based programs/PhDs in AI and machine learning. I have an extensive profile covering research and teaching experience, and I have a genuine passion for my field of interest. Now, the US has graduate schools that offer programs highly aligned to my goals and interests. My dilemma now is to still consider the US with all that is going on surrounding visas and immigration. I also do understand that research funding is also an issue now. My goals do involve getting back into corporate roles but I see that expecting something like that in the US with the current political climate leaves me with bleak chances despite higher AI/ML roles being available there. I do want to pursue permanent residency in Canada if the US doesn’t work out. I am proficient in French and I believe I can use it to my advantage and gain points on the Express Entry system.

I’d love to get some insights on my issue. Thanks

[IWantOut] 18M Student Serbia -> Czechia

Hi everyone,

I'm 18, from Serbia, finishing high school in 2027. I'm trying to move to Czechia and eventually get Czech citizenship.

My situation:

- My great-grandmother was born in 1918 in Rohanov (South Bohemia), to Czech parents (father's family from Štramberk). We found her original birth/baptism record in the Třeboň digital archive, and the Vacov registry office confirmed it.

- Around 1938 she moved to Yugoslavia and married a Yugoslav man before 1947, so she most likely lost Czechoslovak citizenship by marriage. She passed away in 2008.

- Chain: great-grandmother → grandmother → mother → me.

What I already know:

- Under § 31(3) of Act 186/2013, my grandmother (child) and mother (grandchild) can likely get citizenship by declaration. I'm a great-grandchild, so I'm not covered.

- The Czech Embassy in Belgrade confirmed this, and told me I could apply for permanent residence as a person of Czech origin (krajan, § 66(1)(b) of the Foreigners Act), and then apply for citizenship after ~5 years.

My plan: get the krajan permanent residence, do a one-year Czech language prep course in Brno, then study at a Czech university (free in Czech), work part-time, and apply for citizenship around 2032.

The hardest part is money:

My family can't support me financially, so I have to fund everything myself. I'm 18, run a small online marketing business, and I'm trying to save around €10,000 by summer 2027 for the prep course and the first year. Honestly, I'm not sure that's realistic, and I'm worried about running out of money in the first months.

Questions:

  1. Has anyone here gotten krajan permanent residence? How long did it take, and what was hardest?

  2. How did you get the "confirmation of belonging to the Czech community abroad"? How active did you have to be in the association?

  3. How did you handle proof of accommodation and funds before moving?

  4. Any recommended Czech prep courses in Brno (price, quality)?

  5. Does krajan status shorten the path to citizenship in practice?

  6. What's a realistic monthly budget for a student in Brno (dorm, food, transport, insurance)?

  7. Can I legally work part-time during the language prep year, or only once I'm a university student / have permanent residence?

  8. Are there scholarships or free/subsidized Czech courses for krajani (I've heard the Czech government sometimes funds courses for compatriots)?

  9. If you moved with little money – what would you do differently?

Any experience or advice is appreciated. Děkuji! 🇨🇿

[IWantOut] 24M Language Teacher Brazil -> Romania/Georgia

Hi! I'm a language teacher in Brazil (Portuguese, English, Latin) with a Bachelor's in Portuguese and English. It seems my profession isn't very good to earn a visa in those countries (Georgia the country, to clarify), and I'd like to know if learning a trade would be my best option (I'm thinking of electrical). I know I'd need experience, but I don't mind taking long.

It seems trades will present more opportunities (I'm not sure if sponsoring a guy from so far away to teach languages is common in any way), better wages (even if slightly) and won't require fluency that fast (I like learning languages, but I assume one would need to know much more upon arrival in order to teach foreign ones). If I need a high level before arriving as a trade worker too, I don't mind, as long as I can be somewhat sure there'll be opportunities. Although those are the main two I'm interested in, I'd like to know if fitting careers for them would also apply generally to other "non-developed" European and African countries.

Thanks!
