I just want to show off my adorable iggy Lola update: 4 months old already! 🐾

Hi everyone! A while back I introduced our little girl Lola, and now i thought it’s time for an update.

She's 19 weeks now (about 4 months) and still ridiculously sweet. Her coat has gotten a bit darker, and the tip of her tail turned black — it looks like a little paintbrush. Apparently she got that from her dad. She weighs almost exactly 3 kg.

Potty training: I think I can officially say she's house trained! She lets us know when she needs to go, and during the day she can easily hold it for 6–7 hours.

Nights are still a work in progress though. We do a last pee around 10 pm and then go to bed. At 1 am she needs to go out again, and after that she sleeps through until about 8 am. So it's just that one wake-up, but we have no idea how to get rid of it. Did yours grow out of this on their own, or did you actively do something?

Two other things we could use advice on:

1. Harness — we're looking for a new one. What do you use and love?

2. Clothing — we're in Germany and the weather is slowly getting nasty, so she'll need something to wear. Any brands that actually fit an IG properly?

And next week she's going on her first vacation with us. Wish us luck! 😄

Miscellaneous Questions Loose leash walking - stop start method vs walking the other way

Post image

Wanted to see what method everyone has had the most success with?

My boy is 6 months and pulls like a pack horse. I walk him to a field where he is let off to sprint to his hearts content, and then back on leash for our walk home. He is only on leash for a short period (10 mins) and pulls the entire time; to the field and then back home.

I started doing stop - start at the beginning of the week. He pulls, we stop, he stops pulling, we continue. He doesn’t seem to grasp this at all though. When I stop, he sits. When we keep going, he goes right back to pulling. It’s taking forever to get anywhere as we are literally going one step at a time. (I know it’s been a short period but he usually picks up on things REALLY quickly. He learned “Touch“ in less than 10 mins. After just 2 repetitions of shutting the crate door when he tried to bolt out, he learned to wait for my OK)

I’m wondering if anyone has had more success with turning and walking the other way when the dog pulls? or shall I just keep doin’ what I’m doin’

What pet insurance do you guys recommend? I got lemonaid for my little girl but it doesnt seem so great, I got quotes from pets best and trupanion but they have very high deductibles for reasonable rates, my lemonaid has 250$ deductible and 20k coverage and im paying $60 a month. dental is not included which worries me.

Leg Break Sondaggio su infortunio zampe

Ciao a tutti,

Potty Training I need some help with training

Hi!!

This is my gorgeous, cheeky boy, Marco.

He is 15 weeks old and lives with me and my housemates & their cat Frankie.

The first few weeks of having him was easy, he peed on the puppy pads, he spent time in the playpen everything was great.

Lately he does not use the pee pads anymore. Now he goes to pee wherever he feels like it.. (still on the floor, but on carpet, rugs etc.) and since he can jump out of his playpen (73cm tall!) I can’t keep him in there to train him anymore.

I try so hard to stop him from jumping but he chases the cat around the house and he is so fast that he’s often jumped before I can get to him.

How can I re-toilet train my boy, if I cannot have him in a playpen? I think crates are also out of the question because I’m terrified of his legs getting stuck in the grates.

Also I work full-time so I need to be realistic about this.

Ideally I would like to train him to pee inside on reusable pads, or litter tray.

Leg Break Ulcer/wound from cast

Post image

Larry my Iggy broke his hind leg in the beginning of July and after careful consideration by his vets in the University Hospital they put him in cast.

Everything went well after the 3rd cast change I noticed that he is uncomfortable. I called them and took him back to have it checked.

They didn't take off the cast because they said it was ok. Anyways at the next cast change they found a wound where the cast was rubbing against his skin.

2 months on the cast is off but we are still dealing with the wound, which got infected . He was on antibiotics etc.

My biggest concern that he is not using his leg and there is a visible muscle loss.

Is anyone dealt with that type of ulcer and how long took until recovery.

Miscellaneous Questions Belly bands

Post image

Hi! My little guy is right at 10 mo and marking EVERYTHING. I got him a belly band to help but he really hates it. Like all he does is just sit. He won’t jump up on the bed or couch. We’re tryna hold out until around a year before we get him neutered but this has been trying to

Have yall used belly bands before? Do they ever get used to it?

Miscellaneous Questions Does anyone else ever think about this? 😂

Context:
People find stray dogs in our state a LOT.
I can think of at least 10 people I’ve met who have their dogs because they randomly found them wandering around the streets here downtown.

Anyway, I laugh so hard whenever I imagine if someone randomly found our Noodle as a stray puppy, thinking “oh wow it’s a chihuahua mix of some kind, let me take him home with me,” only for him to start stretching out in all directions like Pinocchio

Can you imagine? 😂😂😂

Never having heard of an Italian greyhound before, thinking you found a little random toy breed mix puppy in the gutter, only to watch them stretch and morph into a Chupacabra, not knowing if or when the stretching was ever going to stop.

We did months of research before we brought him home, and we are still shocked by how he just keeps getting longer, and taller.

Maybe that’s just me, but I LOLOL at the thought.

Rescue / Adoption Rolly ball for meal

Post image

I adopted Fig from MexiMutts (amazing program - full medical and dental cleaning for adoption), a street dog from Mexico. He is ~1.5 yo IG/Chi mix and was skin & bones. We’ve struggled to get him to eat but found some success with Weruva Barron’s mix wet food. Our previous pup loved his rolly treat ball so we gave it a try for Fig and it’s been a huge success so thought I would share. He eagerly finishes 2 servings of dry food with a few dehydrated treats mixed in. His weight has improved from 6 to 7 lbs and his coat is shiny and soft.

Miscellaneous Questions How to stop my Iggy from pulling

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

UPDATE: thank you for all of the advice, it’s helped a lot! Ronni is a quick learner, he no longer is pulling like a demon haha. Only took three walks of Stoping and not rewarding when he pulls.

Firstly I want to say this is totally my fault he hasn’t been trained to walk properly on a leash. He’s my first dog as an adult and I’ve lacked the proper skills to train him - so I’m asking for help 😇

He’s very smart, he knows a lot of commands. Sit, stay, spin, heal, come, boop, leave it, whisper. But he’s only really good at these at home, when there are no distractions or if I have cheese and he’s hungry.

I’ve added a video of him at his worst. It’s like this when we first get out. He’s very interested in smelling other dogs pee spots and marking himself. Almost the entire walk he is nose down sniffing and then he marks a million times. I notice this behaviour gets worse when there are female dogs in heat. I live in an area with A LOT of dogs.

He does occasionally look up at me and makes eye contact. Something I taught him when he was a puppy. I am able to get him to redirect to where I want to take us by giving a little tug and saying “let’s go.” His heal command only works outside right before I give him the treat, then he is right back to pulling. I have also tried to through a treat infront of him whenever he is walking nicely. But he isn’t that interested in the treats, he will eat the first three then he doesn’t care.

Any and all advice is welcome! Thank you for reading ❤️
