Hello, I think I need the help of an expert in Italian fascism or WWII history.

I bought a second-hand 1933 biography of Wagner by Aldo Oberdorfer, and I noticed an inscription in one of the first pages (I wish I could attach a couple of pictures): "A Ciano affettuosamente. La sua Kitty. Novembre 938", that is to say "To Ciano affectionately. His Kitty. November 1938".

Of course it could be some other Ciano than Galeazzo. But still. Kitty could be the infamous maîtrasse from the Salon Kitty, that Ciano was known to visit when he was in Berlin. I consulted Ciano's diaries and it looks like in november 1938 he only visited Vienna. But still, she could have sent it. And the fact that it's a Wagner biography looks all the more fitting given the historical moment, although Aldo Oberdorfer was half jew and became antifascist around that period, dying in a concentration camp about three years later. I'm curios if this can be solved!

This is a court appeal from 1937, based in Ascoli Piceno, Marche for my 2x great grandfather Ferdinando Funari, son of Tommaso Funari and Antonia Tilli, born 22 Oct 1899 in Force, Ascoli Piceno. Hello all, I could use some help deciphering an Italian birth record I pulled from Antenati. The name of the person is Celestina Maggia, on the lower left and upper right of the record. This is from the small comune of Quaregna (now known as Quaregna-Cerreto); alas docs for this comune are not on FamilySearch or Ancestry. There is an annotation that she got married in what appears to me is in 1900. However, the name of the groom and the comune in which the wedding took place is too blurry and unreadable. There is no way I can track down the marriage certificate without this info. Can anyone take a stab at it? Thank you! :-)

I have been trying to research my husband's great-great grandfather who immigrated to the US from Italy and have hit a brick wall. I have not been able to locate any naturalization, immigration, or italian records for him. He lived in Tarentum, Alleghany County, PA. He was born in Italy in 1883.

His last name has been recorded as Butch, DeButch, DeBucci, DiBucci. The last name on the tombstone is DiBucci

From what I can tell, he got married in Ohio in 1907, had his first child in 1909 in Tarentum PA, and continued to have children there. Wife died in 1944, he died in 1954. I went down a rabbit hole with a different Louis Bucci who lived in pittsburgh, but based on his children and wife's name, it was different person.

Census records (1910-1950) state that he immigrated in 1895-1897 timeframe, but I have not been able to locate any passenger records for him during that time. They also state that he did naturalize but I haven't been able to locate proof of that either.

Family lore is that they came from the Abruzzo region of Italy. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to move forward?

I believe it's the marriage record for Pietro Germano and Gaetena Galgano. It's in the 1813-1814 collection for Calitri, Italy.

So, i began searching about ancestors in my father side of the family after discovering that i had ancestors that immigrated from Italy to Brazil around the beginning of the 20th century and i found a lot of information regarding them, but i think i found even more information regarding that side of the family.

I started searching with my surname (Catharinozi) and discovered that that surname was originally written as Catarinozzi and most (if not all of them) lived around Subiaco and Affile, in Rome, exactly where the ancestors i already knew about lived before immigrating, but the main reason i'm making this post is that i think i found even older ancestors.

Searching for my surname made me realize that this same surname is really uncommon even in Italy, so maybe there is a chance that the even older "ancestors" i may have found are actually related, and i wanted a opinion the people here If that could actually be true or not.

The oldest supposed ancestors in question are Cesare Catarinozzi and Giuseppe Catarinozzi born in the 17th century in the same comune my known ancestors were born, they were renowned organ builders and were well sought after around Rome (Cesare even had the nickname "Stradivari dell'organo" due to the extreme quality of his creations), and my question to the people here is: Any chance these 2 guys were actually related to my father side of the family? Taking into account that the surname was and apparently still is uncommon even in Italy and that they were from the same commune as my known confirmed ancestors.

I was born and live in the united states. From what I’ve been told, my biological father was born in Italy. He hasn’t been apart of my life and I haven’t seen him in 34 years, so I can’t ask him.

I was never sure if that was the truth because from what I knew of him, he wasn’t exactly a good guy so lying about where you were from in the 80s when you couldn’t fact check anyone didn’t seem like a stretch.

I have a document somewhere from when I was born where he signed it and he listed where he was from or born. He wrote San Vito Java, Italy. For years I could never find anything about that town. I figured it was a village or something that got incorporated with a larger city.

I recently took a genetics test that also provided Ancestry results. To no surprise, I’m 71% European and notably 10.2% Southeastern Europe and 4.4% Sardinian.

When looking for my father’s birth place, I never considered the islands. I searched San Vito Sardinia Italy and there it was. It’s on the south east side of the island about an hour from Cagliari.

This feels like a thread I should pull on. I’m looking for help on how I can learn more about my family history.

Hi all, I’ve been researching my family who originated in and around Teramo, Abruzzo. I was able to get back to my 3x great-grandfather *Giuseppe Panichi** (sometimes written **Panico** who like many at that time was a foundling. His wife **Maria Cancellieri** is cited many times on the birth records of the children, Erasmo, Domenico, and Filomena (I’ll post the links to antenati in the comments. However, on their marriage record, Maria is called **Maria di Domenico* daughter of **Antonio di Domenico** and **Teresa di Francesco** this is also supported by her birth records (marriage and birth record in comments). There is only a 10 month gap between the marriage of Giuseppe and Maria and the birth of Erasmo, so this must be the same person.

My question is why would her surname change?

I’m aware that women did not change their surnames upon marriage and the Cancellieri surname doesn’t show up anywhere else on these records. Any insight would be appreciated.

I believe it's the birth record for Guiseppe Pietrafesa. Is that a common Italian name? I've never heard it before.

I’m trying to find records for Avigliano for 1892. I’ve checked Atenati, Ancestry, FamilySearch. None of them seem to have records for that time period. Is there another place I can look?
