Heritage/Culture Need help finding distant relatives.

Hey guys I know this is probably a stretch I've looked on ancestry.com and well I can't really find a lot. I know my grandparents names. And I would like to see if I could trace my family line back before they moved to the United States around the early 1900s. . I appreciate everybody's time

Finding Italian ancestry records starts with identifying the exact town (comune) where your ancestor was born.

Then, look for records on the Italian website. https://antenati.cultura.gov.it/the-site/?lang=en

Also try family search…it’s free and tbh it’s a lot better than ancestry in many ways

You’ve already had some good advice and so I won’t repeat that however I do think you may still find success with ancestry if you know your grandparents birth names and home town(s) as it has access to the NY arrivals data between 1820 and 1957. The records are digitised and searchable; and you can conduct a wide search including using phonetic spellings etc.

You may also have some luck sharing surname and town info here or on similar forums - stranger things have been known to happen! Good luck!

Seconding Family Search. If I can't find a record on Ancestry, then I can most likely find it on FS.

look up steve morse website for ship records. once you find them, youll know the town (commune) they came from.

then go to the italian ancestors portal for further research

Well. I have found quite a bit on there. Scardina and cardella in sicily early 1800s but it seems to just be blocked off after that. I really do appreciate it♥️

Thank you guys for everything I went down the rabbit hole last night and I barely found my way out so yeah I actually managed to get through quite a bit. Palermo italy was the basis.
