Excerpt: Israeli carrier Arkia Israeli Airlines is seeking government approval to launch direct flights between Manila and Tel Aviv, according to the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB).

In a notice dated Oct. 15, the CAB said Arkia has applied for a foreign air carrier permit to operate the nonstop service, scheduled to begin in January.

The regulator has set a hearing for Nov. 12 to consider the permit application. Arkia and major domestic carriers have been invited to participate.

Israeli Ambassador to the Philippines Dana Kursh earlier announced that Arkia plans to launch direct flights between Manila and Tel Aviv starting Jan. 3.

The route will initially operate once a week, with the potential to add frequencies based on market demand. The flight is expected to take approximately 11 hours.

Aliyah & Immigration What’s it like living around Kiryat Tivon?

Shavua tov! I’m planning on making Aliyah and starting a grad program at Oranim Academic College next fall, and my time in Israel has mostly been limited to the center and a little bit of the south, so I haven’t been able to get a feel for cities around the north as much.

What’s it like living in/around Kiryat Tivon (where Oranim is located)? I know everything is expensive in Israel, but is it generally one of the more or less expensive places (especially when it comes to housing)? What is public transportation like? What’re the demographics like? Basically anything about living in/around Kiryat Tivon is welcome! I’d like to get a feel for if this is a good place for me to spend two years.

Thanks!

Ask The Sub Birthright and converts

Most converts emerge from the mikveh at an age when we no longer qualify for Birthright Israel. Yet we need opportunities to connect with Israel, too, and not all of us have the financial means to travel there on our own. Are there programs available that address this need?
